[Closed] Midnight on the Firing Line
🧙 WHO: Chris & Elza
⚔️️ WHAT: A knight and assassin walk into a bar... and by bar I mean go on an epic quest together to locate the man responsible for cursing Archimedes's horses.
🕒 WHEN: December
🗺️ WHERE: Along and surround the areas of the rent-a-ride, the red spring and Camelot
⚠️ WARNINGS: None yet
Elza hadn't cared much either way about 'helping the people out' since her arrival. To make it short it simply wasn't her problem. If people were willing to pay for her services, however, then that was a different situation all together. That was how she ended up walking the path with the silver-haired maiden that trailed beside her. She could only imagine the desperation the knight would have been in to hire out her services again, but if nothing else Chris had proven herself to be professional. Besides... as long as her pockets were lined with coin she didn't care who her benefactor was.
They'd both listened to the 'plight' suffered by this 'Archimedes'. Elza undoubtedly had a bored air around her even if she had listened to everything said. She may hold no interest in their situation but she too had some level of professionalism to uphold. So... someone had cursed this fool's horses and they'd run off. He wanted them back but she was no horse wrangler. No amount of coin would persuade her into taking that job. The mention of finding the perpetrator, however, would be decent sport.
The snow was thick on the ground while they walked across the fields. Each footstep crunched down into the ice until it was halfway up her shin. The blizzard had at least come to an end not that long ago which meant, while still freezing, their visibility of the surrounding area was near-perfect. Sadly though it hadn't stopped soon enough not to cover the tracks of their quarry's retreating footsteps. Annoying, yes, but it was hardly the end of the world.
So Elza figured their first port of call would be the Red Springs. If the one they were hunting had come this way, someone was bound to have seen something over the last day or two.
"How competent are you at drawing out information from people?" Elza asked. She didn't expect much and partly wondered if she should have suggested the 'split up' to gather more information when they arrived. At least that way she could get the information she needed without the sword of justice glaring over at her.

It was partly necessity and partly desperation, that had driven Chris to seek the services (and they were indeed services, Elza's assistance in this matter had not come without cost) of the Howling Voice Gunner in dealing with this matter. Chris needed something to do to occupy her time and mind when the militia was not enough, Geddoe was too hard to find these days, Claire was busy with her own projects, and Rinea, while a wonderful friend, and talented budding alchemist, was not really suited to dangerous missions like this. And the person she normally would have mostly relied on...can't join her.
In that respect, Elza was in fact the ideal choice. Professional, trained to track and hunt other people, and utterly, utterly indifferent to Chris and her situation. Therefore, Hawk's disappearance and her own grief were entirely unlikely to trouble her on this mission. The gunner was well worth the investment.
"I speak and act with authority." Chris replies promptly, having worn her knight's armour to aid specifically in that purpose. "For most people, that's enough, especially if you look like someone who should have authority. Failing that, the threat of legal sanction can be an effective way of getting some malcontents to sell out their fellows." The street-level ones, at least, for whom crime still held allure and mystique for, and who were utterly, utterly unprepared for the consequences of being caught.
"My feeling is if doesn't have a bolthole tucked away somewhere in the town, he's probably run for the hills, hoping to hide in the wilderness until things calm down. But we should start in the Red Springs." The Springs were always busy, plenty of people, odds are good someone saw him.

The mention that Chris spoke and acted with 'authority' had her chuckling quietly to herself. She could only imagine how that would go. Perhaps a stern glance might also be thrown in there? No, perhaps she was being too harsh
even if it were funand the knight would surprise her with her interrogation habits."I look forward to see your interrogation techniques when the time comes," Elza added after Chris had muttered something about legal sanctions and the like. The technique was indeed different than her own, but what do you expect by one who upholds the law verses her own methods.
"Mmm," the gunner added carelessly. Both possibilities were options without a doubt. It didn't bother her which location they did find their target so long as it provided good entertainment for her effort. Money was just money and unimportant to her but her true payment came in the entertainment value.
"If we discover the target isn't in Red Springs then he's unlikely to have an accomplice," Elza added while she crested one of the hills that overlooked Red Spring not too far off in the distance.

"Any other ideas?" She asks as they begin the descent towards the town. "Surely you must have some thoughts." This was, after all, the sort of thing the Howling Voice did for a living.
