⊗ a: task - flappy veg

[Guarding flying lettuce....is certainly something Eustace never would have found himself doing, yet here he was in one of the known locations where some have landed from their migration. Whether they're technically animals or not, Eustace couldn't understand them through animal magic regardless, but he's able to at least communicate that he's there to help and not harm. They seem a bit jittery with all the poaching around.

a. updrafts. The place they landed in is mostly a clearing, but there are a few "obstacles" scattered around in the form of tall rocks and small trees. While most of the Butterfly Lettuce remain on the ground vibing, some also choose to perch on the trees to prune their leaves. However, due to their physique and unreliable drafts at this time, they end up either flopping about or plummeting to the ground. Fortunately none are too bruised, but it's hard to just sit still when nothing much is happening.]

...Hold on, let me help.

[Either by picking them or using wind magic to create some wind to help the lettuce, Eustace can give them a boost up. It's still not perfect, but it works.

Some of the younger lettuce realize they have an on demand draft maker, and Eustace can also be found creating wind streams to help the smaller Butterfly Lettuce "flap" over a mini obstacle course as they play a game while also practicing their skills. It's good practice for him as well. For anyone who might there also guarding him, they can either assist or just watch out for any stray Butterfly Lettuce that flap in the wrong direction—or help catch any that might fall from their perches.

b. poachers. Of course not everything is peaceful. Eventually poachers will arrive. If Eustace is able to sense something amiss soon enough he could send out a warning shot before they enter into the area. If not, he's fully prepared to fight and bring on the thunder, er lightning. Help keep the lettuce out of the way or assisting Eustace in fighting the poachers!]

⊗ b: cure on cloud nine

[Having managed to avoid the basilisks and already wearing gloves, Eustace is prepared to help in retrieving the mysterious Nimbus flower deep within the Forest of the Felled. Having a lot of experience in infiltrating and dealing with traps, including those out in the wild, also helps. So while traversing through a particular are, his suddenly looks up and holds his arm to stop whoever he's with.]

Careful. The branches here have been cut and the ground looks it had once been cleared away. Better to go around.

[Although there are leaves and growth all over the ground, if one looks carefully there's a small patch that looks thinner compared to the rest, indicating that at some point it had been disturbed and recovered. Most likely a pit trap, but no need to try and find out.]

⊗ c: floor is lava

[Although he had (for some reason he still can't comprehend) been granted the both the knight and noble titles, he still hasn't accepted the new grant since it seems too much of a hassle and not really his thing. But he does go out to check on the new townships being built out of curiosity...and also because of the little prank that had occurred. This had to be the most ridiculous thing he's seen yet, though he feels he thinks that every month... After hearing about it and seeing it with his own eyes, Eustace just sighs as he first notes the affected buildings.]

...Rather than play this farce, wouldn't it be easier if I just transformed into a bird and fly directly to the circles to destroy them? Or shoot them down from a higher enough point.

[His hand is already on his holster. He just has to get up to a building and aim, and he has elemental magic on his side it should be easy right??? But will he be allowed is a different matter—

If anyone manages to convince him to do it properly, they better be prepared to join in and expect a riveting platform game where nothing is stable and teamwork is key!]

[She takes the creature over to where he directs her and sets it down, smiling softly up at him. It was nice seeing him again. She had thought about him.]

Looks like you're having fun with them. How have you been? It's been a while since we last saw each other. Has everything been treating you well?

[She pats one of the strange butterfly lettuce's gently.]

If you mean this, it's just some practice that benefits the both of us.

[That said, he's clearly maintaining it in such a way that the adolescents are having fun as they flap in and out, up and down, tumbling about in the air.]

Still looks like you're having fun. Who said practice couldn't be fun after all?

[She laughs softly at that looking at him.]

I've been alright. I think I'm finally adjusting to things, at least mostly. There are certainly situations and events that throw me off guard though.

I suppose that's true.

[Not that he'll admit it.

It has been rather...chaotic. I take it you were unharmed during the attacks on Celliwig and the stone giant?

And these things seem to really like it as well. So it's win/win, correct?

[She nods as she catches one of the other ones that were flying a little to far in their play.]

Yes, fortunately. If I were damaged...that's it. I would be done for depending on how bad it was. There's no one I know here with the knowledge to repair me.

[A small frown as he regards her, remembering what she told her about her build and the difficulties that came with it.]

That's fortunate, but... You still haven't found a way?

[She looked at him seeing the frown cross his features.]

No, I'm sorry. I know that it is a worry. But there hasn't been a way found that could do it. So I just have to be more careful than I normally would be.

[Just a small shake of his head.]

While not ideal, at least you know how to prepare for it. [He glances at the butterfly lettuce.] And any poachers that come through won't pose much of a threat.

[Just subtly moving away from the less cheerful topic.]

[She gave him a little smile and a shrug.]

Unfortunately it is what it is, and yes, that is why I am here. I don't agree with the idea of poaching things. But I had to find out what exactly it was before I knew what I was coming for, so I did a little quick reasearch.

[She blushes softly at the admission. But poachers weren't something she had to ever worry about before.]

Seeing you here just makes it more worthwhile.

[There's just a slight tilt of his head as he wonders why his presence would matter... Ah, probably because he's someone she's familiar with so it's a bit more comfortable for her. That makes sense.]

Your assistance will be great as well. Poachers aren't usually difficult to handle, but with the Butterfly Lettuce...unable to properly fly on their own it will be a little difficult in ensuring they remain safe should the poachers arrive.

[As if to prove his point, one wobbles while in the air and falls towards A2.]

Truthfully I'm still not sure if these are just flying vegetables or some kind of animal...

[She catches the falling Butterfly Lettuce with a soft giggle. Though she still preferred the flying hamsters that she had ran into in Celliwig.]

It's hard to tell, though with the way they are flying around I think I might lean towards some sort of animal. Or a animal vegetable hybrid. But they are desirable enough to be poached.

[She gently sets it down with the rest of them then looks back up at her friend.]

Unfortunately so. Even worse when these creatures are practically defenseless.

[Case in point, another one wobbles in the air before he sends another light breeze to steady it.]

Speaking of poachers, we should ready a plan. I've already designated a safe area for them in that grove of trees over there so they won't get caught in any crossfire.

[And all that lightheartedness vanishes as Eustace gets serious for a bit.]

Yes. It is a shame, which makes them easy targets.

[She reaches out to catch it in case it overshoots the direction.]

If poachers come, since you have already indicated where you want them to go, and you have the correct magic to hurry them over; I can set up to cover you and fight off any of them while you get them to safety.

[It seems like a reasonable suggestion to her when she brought it up as she looks over at him.]

[The lettuce wobbles and ends up plopping into her hands with a little leaf rustling.]

That sounds like the best course of action. I can cover from up high even while I'm guiding the lettuce to the designated zone, though I doubt you'll need it.

[Given what he's seen of her abilities, maybe he should feel some pity on the poachers.

But while they were talking, more of the lettuce start floating over to A2, is if wanting to land on or around her.]

[She can't help but giggle as more of the little lettuce creatures flew over to her. She has no idea why, but she's not complaining. They are actually pretty cute in their strange way.]

I agree too, and yes, you can definitely cover me if need be, and protect these little ones.

[If poachers came she had no intention of letting them walk out of here alive. That was for sure. No better than the damn machines in her eyes after she had researched what exactly a poacher was.]

[Now the butterfly lettuce seem to be tugging at her.

I think we have our plan covered... However it seems they want to play with you.

[She laughs again as she leans down to pick up one of the creatures.]

I don't have the slightest idea how to play with them though.

[She tossed the creature lightly in the air, watching it.]

[It chirps and rustles its leaves in delight as the air spins it around and sends it back down to A2.]

I think you just figured it out. Just keep tossing it into the air, see how high it can go.

[She giggles at that as she catches it and tosses it back up. Such a simple thing that these creatures seemed to be enjoying. Though she had to admit she was enjoying the simplicity herself.]

Such a simple little game for them, but perhaps it will help build strength in their wings?

[She glances over at him but keeping enough attention on the creature as well.]

It's one idea, but also to let them get used to being in the air so they have a bit more control.

Still, they're young. While they'll learn skills in the process, they're just having fun.

Is this how juveniles learn? By playing?

[She really doesn’t know how most lifeforms learn, since she was already programmed with all the necessary knowledge to do what she was made to do.]

I can see how this could help their wings grow stronger though. Which they need to in order to get to safety when they’re older.
