November Catch-All [Open]
🧙 WHO: Nanaki/Red XIII and YOU!
⚔️️ WHAT: Protecting lettuce, blindfolded navigation, and cat naps
🕒 WHEN: All throughout November
🗺️ WHERE: Various places
⚠️ WARNINGS: N/A; will adjust as needed!
A - Flappy Veg
[Humans hunting a creature to the brink of extinction for food is, unfortunately, not an uncommon practice even in his own world. As such, Nanaki feels a desire to help keep the Butterflying Lettuce safe, if only as a way of reminding others that animals are not just there for consumption. Even a carnivore like himself knows not to gorge themselves on prey until none remain!]
[Fortunately, he is able to put his stalking abilities to good practice here. He remains close to a flock of five, a prime target for poaching foodies. If one approaches, he will let out a growl and emerge from a nearby hiding place.]
If I were you, I’d think twice before hunting this flock.
[[OoC: This is open to both those who are also defending the Butterflying Lettuce or those who are doing the Dark Web equivalent! Feel free to tag in on either end!]]
B - Not Seeing Is Believing
[Creatures that can turn others to stone… the idea sits heavy in Nanaki’s bones, bringing back memories of the caves just outside of Cosmo Canyon, and the conflict that had occurred there. He tries not to let his unpleasant thoughts deter him, but he has to admit he’s a little on edge for this particular mission.]
[Oddly enough, the blindfolds do help a little, offering some protection from the threat of petrification. And fortunately for him, he has sharp senses of hearing and smell that he’s able to use in place of his sight. So if he hears others nearby, he will pad forward towards them.]
If you need assistance crossing, I can help. My nose is strong and my hearing is probably better than yours.
C - The Red Spring
[Though the city of Camelot is a nice city full of conveniences, Nanaki does prefer more open spaces. The wilds outside of the city provide nice hunting, but if he wants a place to relax, he’s begun to find The Red Spring to be a nice place to do so. He stays away from the water most of the time, but even the ambient warmth of the hot spring is nice, and enough to lull even a big cat like himself in for a nice cat nap.]
[He can sometimes be found here, taking a nap on one of the lounge chairs… or at least looking like he is taking a nap. If someone approaches, his ear will flick, and his good eye will open.]
...if you’re needing a place to sit, I will be done with my nap soon.
D - Wildcard
[If you’d like a custom starter or would like to plan something different out, feel free to PM me here or hit me up on plurk at

I'm not here to do any hunting. [ Best to make her intentions clear right now. Like she would do something so awful to these creatures! They're so cute?!?! ] We're on the same side.
no subject
Oh, it's you. I was not aware that you were here to protect them as well.
no subject
[ But at least she wasn't attacked! Or they didn't end up fighting. ]
It's been a long time since I last took up a quest. I thought to take on one now. This seemed like something right up my alley.
no subject
[It really has been a while, hasn't it?]
Well, you've taken up a noble one. These creatures need protection from humans who think satisfying their palettes is more important than the lives they are ending.
no subject
[ And she would explain if she could, but she finds that describing it is a little difficult. She doesn't want to offend anyone! ]
Besides, they're actually kind of cute...
no subject
[He says it with a bit of distaste in his mouth. But he looks at the flying lettuce herd nearby.]
They are strange, but I can see the appeal in them.
no subject
[ And, hey! Doesn't matter if they end up having to share the reward, or something. Weiss is actually? Honestly fine not getting what was originally advertised as the reward. She's more into getting the recognition for it. The more known she is, and the higher her status becomes, then she'll likely get more help with what she wants in terms of magical knowledge and power from this world.
Basically? She wants to be able to open a world from here to her own world, at a specific point in time, once Avalon's been saved and the timelines have been fixed. Especially since she found herself at a point where she was filled with nothing but dread, loneliness, and despair in the middle of a war.
It's only after realising that she might have just sounded bossy that she clears her throat, a lot less formal now that she was earlier. ]
Sorry, that is— if you'd prefer to work alone, that's fine, too.
no subject
I am quite fine to work as a pair. It is sometimes better to hunt in a pack than on your own. If you do not mind me as a partner, that is.
[He won't say no to rewards, but he might just offer them up to Weiss at the end anyway. He doesn't need a lot of the same things humans do, after all.]
no subject
[ Weiss is not quite desperate for Nanaki's approval for anything, but it... does make her happy to know he doesn't mind! She just wants to be liked by Cloud's friends...
As it turns out, though, the poaches are much closer than they realised. Not going on the offensive just yet, but they do arrive at the scene, rustling about in the bushes on the other side. It's only because Weiss has a trained ear that she can hear others. If she had her Aura in this world, she'd be able to tell the presence of other people easily.
Her back straightens and she's quick to place a hand on the hilt of her sword. ]
Looks like we're not alone anymore.
no subject
[There's not much time to think on that, though, as his ears perk up at the sound of rustling. He turns with Weiss, before growling low in his throat.]
So it would seem. Let us show them that this herd is not to be targeted today.
no subject
Two, three, five... there's five of them, all brandishing weapons. Weiss isn't sure if these guys know magic, but given the nature of Avalon? It's very likely. She wields her sword in full, blade at the ready in case she needs to strike first. ]
It would be best that you turn around now.
[ A warning. But it isn't taken seriously by the poachers, as they look at each other and start to laugh. "What are you going to do about it, Princess? Is your familiar going to come at us?"
... NANAKI IS NOT HER FAMILIAR???? ]
no subject
[Five opponents against the two of them? A lot, but not out of the realm of possibility. He growls, baring his teeth at the poachers... but when they accuse him of being her familiar, he snarls, his fur bristling.]
Were I merely a familiar, could I wield magic like this??
[He lets out a howl, and a burst of fire shoots out at the poacher!]
so sorry! it's been a busy week
It puts a smile on her face, actually, and she'll put aside the talk for now and focus on protecting the flying lettuce. Following up with the bursts of fire from Nanaki, she spins once, and upon facing the poachers again, points her sword at them. With the magic bullets she's got loaded in her sword, icicles begin to shoot out of it and towards the poachers.
Their enemies seem to be tougher than they look, though, creating shields with the own magic they wield. ]
It's all good! Hope the week calms down for you /o/
[The lettuce scatter and flee behind them as the fight continues on. That shield of magic is a surprise, but Nanaki doesn't want to let that deter him. Rather than conjure up another fireball, he runs forward with all his speed, snarling as he leaps at the men. Perhaps he can push through with sheer force of will alone?]
B
She hasn't put her blindfold on just yet, though, since she does rely a lot on her sight--but her companion's offer is a welcome one.]
Much stronger. Barbara senses, limited.
[Compared to dragons, and--she is guessing--definitely compared to a creature like Nanaki.]
no subject
I will do my best to guide us across. Stay close to me, and I will keep you safe.
[It's a dangerous crossing, sure, but Nanaki wants to help reassure.]
no subject
[She doesn't like the thought of crossing the river blind, but the locals have been adamant enough about how dangerous the basilisk is that even she is not going to suggest fighting it unless it becomes unavoidable. She ties her blindfold on snugly, not wanting to deal with paralysis in the middle of a river.]
Barbara touch?
[She thinks it is probably a step too far to ask if she can hold onto his tail, even without the flame at the end of it, but it would help if she could keep contact with some part of him.]
no subject
I will allow it. Just do not pull too hard if you choose to hold my tail.
[Normally he only allows pets with certain people, but this is an exception. He can be flexible.]
no subject
[She lifts the blindfold enough that she can gently grasp Nanaki's tail, below the point of the flame. What an unusual feature--she'd like to ask more about it at a time when they aren't in danger from a paralytic monster.]
Ready.
no subject
[With their blindfolds in place, Nanaki turns forward.]
Right. Then let's go.
[He'll start off at a slower pace, sniffing at the ground and keeping his ears perked upright to hear any sounds. Their first few steps are relatively peaceful, just the sounds and smells of water around them accompanying their footfalls.]
no subject
But though the first paces into the river go smoothly, something catches Barbara's hearing--something in the water some yards upstream. It might just be a big fish flopping against the surface, but she doubts it. She speaks, as low as she can.]
Hear that?
no subject
...keep your guard up. I think we are not alone right now.
A
Already thought about it and decided I wouldn't. We're good.
[Despite the current issue with the city's food supplies, taking out a species wouldn't be ideal for future survival. Nah, foodies needed to be patient and actually let the population rebound because who could say what the effects would be if they disappeared.]
no subject
Hmm. I am glad to see others are choosing to help these ones, rather than hunt them.
no subject
Yeah, I saw someone else the other day on lettuce duty. They'd landed on him, it was great - and with his personality, I'd say they were safer on them than flying overhead.
no subject
I see... well, with all of us working together, perhaps these poachers will think twice before trying to hunt them.
no subject
[Zidane hadn't technically signed up for the quest.]
no subject
[He wonders who Zidane worked with, but if there's more intimidating-looking individuals protecting defenceless creatures, then that's for the best.]
I do not understand humans and their inability to control themselves. Even animals are better behaved.
no subject
[Unless Bakugou's off that day, but he's usually not. That's what they call a 0 to 10 right?]
I don't get it either. Like, I'd get it if this was Quina, but they learn about the world through food.
no subject
[Maybe it didn't help that Nanaki had literally thrown him onto an invisible bridge... But Zidane was right; between his appearance and Bakugou's personality, very few would be tempted to cross them.]
Quina?
no subject
[Good, Nanaki already knew who Bakugou was. Saved a lot of trouble explaining.]
Quina's a friend from home. Their clan are gourmands and use Blue Magic in battle. They journeyed with us to learn more about the world outside of their swamp and frogs.
no subject
[Given what he knew of the blonde, he can only imagine how well that's gone.]
Blue magic?
no subject
[But it was hilarious.]
Yeah. Quina can learn monster abilities. Of course, they had to eat the monster, but considering some of the magic that they picked up from it, totally worth it.
no subject
[Sorry, that's new even by Nanaki's standards.]
That... is definitely something that is not familiar in my world.
no subject
[He thought it might be at least shared considering it seemed like Nanaki's world knew about magic.]
no subject
[How would it even work..? Nanaki is curious... but also not.]
It is alright. I have not heard of others knowing what materia is either, so I assume it is unique to my world.
no subject
[It's rather horrifying, but amazing to witness.]
Oh yeah, I've never heard of that. What's materia?
no subject
There is a substance on my world called mako; it is the liquid form of our planet's lifestream. Materia is the crystallized form of mako, and allows the holder to wield all kinds of magic.
