Catch all and Quests
🧙 WHO: Beowulf and everyone, completely open~!
⚔️️ WHAT: Training, shopping, questing
🕒 WHEN: First few weeks of November
🗺️ WHERE: All the places
⚠️ WARNINGS: Potential language, violence, OBSESSION quest
I – Window Shopping
Beowulf looked at the options before him at the current shop he was in with a frown. His familiar was nearby, perusing through the armaments with a bored look. He was looking for something specific, something very specific. And then shook his head.
“No, sorry. I don’t think any of these will work. I need something that can withstand at least 2 to 3,000 degrees Celsius.”
II – Obsession
He’d been on the lookout for a challenge recently, something to get his blood going before the hunt. This seemed relatively perfect to him. Just extract the poison and be done with it, simple enough. Of course, things are never that simple. In reality, the thing reminded him of Grendel slightly, a creature that isn’t afraid to shift itself into a friend, a lover, a family member. A nasty piece of work that feeds off the fear, anger, frustration of its foes.
Something that revels in the destruction of life and all joy. Of course, this wasn’t Grendel, it didn’t come anywhere close to being Grendel. Just a sick fey in need of a beat down. He rolled his arm holding a new shield while unsheathing Hrunting. The sword glowing a wicked red as he approached the Gancanagh with a feral grin. “Let’s get started then.”
III – Training
He moved to the side deftly, parrying a blow from his would-be attacker and giving their back a hard smack in return with the flat of his blade. Something that would leave a nasty bruise, and probably some welts. But nothing too bad. “You’re thinking too much and trying too hard.”
His legs crossed as he moved back, keeping his weight distributed and front facing the other person. “It’s not a bad thing, but you need to learn to act and move at a moment’s notice without thinking too much. Be more natural.”
He’d been looking for someone to train with, to move his body. Something more challenging than a fairy. Something to prepare him for an upcoming fight that would no doubt be more challenging than this little sparring match.
IV – TDM: Magical Flu~!
Beowulf had found himself making a few calls here and there. Offering up his services whenever prompted to. Healing magic has certainly been quite useful since he’d first arrived in Avalon. The large warrior seeing quite a bit of mileage out of it. Both for himself, and for others.
Currently he was walking towards his next appointment, mask over his large face and sword and shield not present. While his familiar was with him, basket full of goodies for the sick!

Avoid the eyes. Do not touch with your hands. Seemed simple enough for Asterios.
"Mmm. Keep eyes on ground. Watch movements."
no subject
So yeah, probably the best match up for this one.
"Don't let it touch you or distract you. No matter what form it takes." He moves to the left, carefully watching the thing's feet and abdomen. The way the arms moved for a moment.
no subject
"Rrrgh!" With a short battle cry, while keeping his eyes glued to the ground, Asterios moves to swing his split labrys forward!
no subject
Beowulf remained on it though, side stepping an attempted swipe from it with natural ease.
no subject
"RAAAAGH!" As evidenced, his roars get louder, and he tries to swing harder.
no subject
Then again, given that they already had enough blood at this point to probably extract the thing's venom they could potentially stop? Would they though? Probably not, the thing was a monster, which egged Beowulf on, and Asterios was also losing control.
Oh dear....
no subject
"RAAAAAAUGH!"
As such, his swings are getting wilder and more dangerous, and his head is starting to lift!
no subject
Ripe for them to finish it off... or look into it's eyes!? But really... would that actually do anything to them at this point?
no subject
"KIIIILL!"
Asterios takes a leap, intending to sever the neck with his labrys - to quote a famous red queen, off with its head!
no subject
He still wouldn't stop Asterios from going all chop-chop with his axe against the thing's head! He will frown when the monster's noggin' goes flying off in one direction.
"Tch, too easy."
Hopefully the dragon doesn't prove as easy pickings when he gets to it.
no subject
... But then, a thought occurs to him.
"... Do we get... toxins now?"
no subject
"That's... hm... yeah?" Right, the toxins! How do they extract it now? Maybe they should squeeze it like a lemon? Hm....!
"Think we just needed to scrape a bit off of its skin... think we might get paid extra for the whole thing?" Maybe!
no subject
He kneels down to the ground, one hand touching the dirt. He still isn't wholly confident with his magic... but slowly, some green vines begin to come up through the dirt, wrapping tightly around the dead creature. That way, it could be steady while they hack off what's needed.
"... Now. Can scrape."

Take this one, for example. Minako is in a store, hears a familiar voice, and while she's glancing over to look at its source, her brain is slowly processing what exactly that voice just said.
And that just makes her confused. Wait, did he just say--
"Two to three thousand degrees?!" She shrieks in surprise.
At least it's an easy way for Beowulf to know that Minako is present, huh. It sure is one way of announcing herself, even though that part wasn't on purpose.
no subject
Also, high Minako, he glances over at the sudden words of surprise. He'd been about to leave the shop when she caught his attention. Out of all the places he expected to run into her, a blacksmith was one he wasn't expecting.
"Yeah, enough to withstand a jet flame while protecting the user. And those around them." A shrug, like he was talking about the weather. Nobody likes having their skin burned off after all!
no subject
Apparently she's not ashamed in the slightest that she greeted him.. well, in the way she did just now. Minako thinks that her concern about this is a little more important than polite greetings right now, okay!
(And it helps that she doesn't think he seems like the type to care much for polite greetings in the first place.)
"Why would you need something like that?!"
no subject
An accurate description for something that was capable of charring flesh from bone. But yes, her concern should rival a more polite greeting! In fact he likes that energy of hers. It gets a wide grin from him as he moves away from the offered shields.
"I need it to help against a dragon." Enough said, right? A fire resistant shield to use against a giant, fire breathing lizard.
no subject
But considering the current month's quest board, and the sheer grudge everyone must have against the dragon that was destroying the place before, the idea of fighting a dragon is much less strange to Minako.
But even though realisation dawns upon her face, it comes alongside a different emotion entirely - concern. Even if Beowulf is a big guy..
"Are you sure.. that's a good idea?"
no subject
"Not the first one I've dealt with." A head tilt in thought. "Though, I'm usually used to dealing with them by myself."
Mainly because his own pride demands that he be the one to deal with things on his own. That, and the prospect of others potentially getting hurt or worse didn't really sit well with him. "We'll be fine, if that's what your concern is."
no subject
Not that Minako couldn't think of other reasons to worry about this plan, but her own concern lies squarely with this idea. She doesn't know who else is apparently going with him, but she at the very least knows Beowulf. And he's a good guy! He's always so friendly - definitely not the kind of person who deserves to have something bad happening to him.
Hence why she frowns, the worry clearly showing in her expression as she looks at him.
"I get that you're a tough guy." That much is obvious. "But last time around even a whole group of people couldn't take that dragon down! What if you all would just get hurt-- or worse?"
no subject
"Oh, I can't make any promises that no one will walk away unscathed. It's something that everyone going after it is preparing for. The main difference this time, is that most are united under a common goal... more or less." He still doesn't look worried, and more or less easy going about it all.
"You know it was a dragon that killed me... of course I killed it first. I was also in my 80's at the time, nearing my 90's. So it had been given a bit of a handicap. So to speak."
no subject
But this conversation is serious, so Minako doesn't let herself be distracted. In fact, what he's saying right now isn't enough to get rid of that worried expression on her face, though that's mostly for once reason..
"You realise that telling me you got killed by a dragon before isn't going to make me any less worried, right?"
no subject
But hey, serious time, right! He'll listen to her for a moment, and think her words over. "And what would make you less anxious?"
Seriously, what's up with the sudden anxiety? Don't answer that because he actually does understand. But again, if he was worried himself he didn't show it.
no subject
It just leaves the teenager to slowly look more and more upset, like she's thinking so hard about this, yet not able to find a single good answer to his question.
In the end, right when it looks like she might be about to cry, she says: ".. Why don't you promise me? That you'll come back safely. At least I can yell at you then if something happens to you."
Which won't stop her from being sad, but she's trying to convince herself of the opposite right now.
no subject
His baritone voice was low and did its best to sound comforting and assuring. He knew he would come back safe and sound, just like the others. There really wasn't any doubt in his mind about any of that. It probably wouldn't do too much to comfort her now, but it might help a little.
"I promise, that I will come back safely and in one piece."
no subject
Minako still doesn't really like the idea of all of this, but.. well, at least he promised now. And she knows that it can't just be a promise only to placate her while he's thinking something else on the inside, since she doesn't think a guy like Beowulf would swear on his honour otherwise. Isn't honour really important to these sorts of guys..?
Either way, it means she inhales before releasing her breath as a sigh, nodding as she tries to pull herself back together again, seeming a tad more like her usual self - though without the excitement.
"When are you going to do this?"
no subject
"In a week or two. Whenever my two companions decide they're ready." Best to make sure everyone was ready and on board before hopping to it. Going after a dragon is a pretty big thing after all! Not something that everyone has a chance to do.
"Are you really that worried about us?"
no subject
With those thoughts going through her mind, it takes a moment for Minako to respond to his question - or rather, for it to register with her that he asked her anything to begin with. But when she does answer, she nods, looking rather serious.
"Of course." There's no other possible answer than that to her. Minako may hide some things, certain emotions, but her care for other people? Never.
"You've always been kind to me. How could I suddenly not care about what happens to you in such a dangerous situation then..?"
no subject
He watches her for a moment as she thinks things over, and then lets out a chuckle at her serious look. Such a spirited lass she is! Beowulf, in truth, isn't really all that used to people worrying about things whenever he was around-- or really worry about him in general. It was kind of nice, truth be told. She seemed stressed still, however.
"You're a kind one; with a big heart. But you also carry quite a bit with you. Maybe a bit too much for that heart to handle all at once." He frowns and thinks for a moment, looking her over, or really a bit deeper into her eyes. So! What to do with helping alleviate some of that tension she seemed to be having?
"...Why don't I give you a bit of extra assurance then." Something to have her hang onto so she knows he'll come back.
no subject
But it seems that he's seen a part of that now. Enough to make that offer.
It catches the girl off guard, making her blink up at Beowulf with surprised, slightly wide eyes.
".. Huh? Like.. what?" Apparently she can't imagine what he could give her as 'extra assurance'.
no subject
Like what indeed? Beowulf doesn't... really have much. Unlike his familiar who tends to do much of the shopping. He does have something of value though to give her until he comes back. A hand reached into his own pocket before pulling something out.
"An heirloom. Or what's left of one. It was passed on to me by my former king as a gift. I had to break recently to save someone, unfortunately. Though even broken like this, it is still quite valuable and has a sentimental hold on me." He holds out his hand, the back up and fingers curled down to wait for her to reach for it. "I'm going to give you a piece of it. Something a bit extra than a word promise that I'll come back."
An important gesture from him!
no subject
Yes, she can imagine that he wouldn't just want to give something like that away, especially if he got it from his king - it must have been someone important to him. Especially if he's still holding onto the thing, even to this day.
So there's no way he wouldn't do his darnest to return and get this back, right..?
Minako reaches out, holding out her hand so he can drop whatever he's holding in his fist into her hand.
".. alright. In that case.. I promise to keep it safe until you're back. No matter what happens."
It's important to him, after all. And Minako is way too serious under all her ditziness to not take this kind of thing very seriously.
no subject
"Oh, I know you will. I have the utmost faith that you will keep it safe and sound."
He'll go ahead and stand up again and give her a softer smile. "It's name is Naegling. And with that you can rest assured that I'll be back, safe and sound."
no subject
"Okay.. I'll remember it."
And actually believe in it. Sure, she might still worry a liiittle bit, since Minako is a worrywart like that, but she means what she's saying.
"Then.. I'll see you again soon, right? Once your little expedition is over."
