Second: Double, double toil and trouble
WHO: Caster and OPEN
WHAT: Learning how to use the network, failing at potion brewing and house hunting/shop browsing/working at the library in town
WHEN: Throughout January
WHERE: Various locations
WARNINGS: Setting things on fire, will update if need be!
1) Network, un: Caster
[Using the network was not Caster's forte by any means. She'd dismissed using technology such as mobile phones back home, leaving it to her Master and the monks at the temple to manage - why would a Magus from the Age of Gods have need for such things, after all? But, as an important tool to communicate in this world, however, she'd finally started trying to get a better handle on it.
First, some text!]
i trust this is functioning
yes it looks like it is
good
[And then her face - or what can be seen of it beneath the hood - along with the tip of a gloved thumb partially obscuring the camera could be seen over the video for just a moment. Right up until her skeletal dragon familiar gets it in its teeth and drags it off to play with it! Caster could be heard in the background giving a sigh of exasperation.]
You know that's not a toy. Bring it back.
2) At the Newcomer Hotel
[Potion brewing was something she'd carried out a fair bit in the past, so even with...less than ideal supplies, Caster thought that replicating her old knowledge here would be a relatively straightforward process.
However, it had failed to occur to her that, just like with her old magic, potions worked 'differently' here.
And so it was that there was a rather unpleasant smell of burning wafting down the hall of the newcomer's hotel, and a cloud of black smoke making its way out the window. Caster was cursing rather loudly as she dumped the charred mess that was probably supposed to be some sort of potion into the sink.
Hopefully just turning the taps on would cool this down...right?]
3) Out and About
[After the mess she'd caused at her current accommodation, Caster had cleared it up the best she could and headed out into town. She'd need to find somewhere else to stay at this rate, that was almost certain to get her thrown out... Well, for the time being, she could at least window shop to take her mind off things.
Caster found herself in and around town a fair bit during the month, looking for supplies, accommodation, or giving her familiar the chance to run around and hopefully not cause too much hassle for her in the meantime. Otherwise, she could often be found travelling to the outskirts to practice her magic.
She had at least been able to find a job at the library, It was pleasant, and for the most part, quiet. It gave her easy access to research material as well, and most importantly, it gave her some access to funds, even if most of that would probably be spent on alternative accommodation arrangements this month.]
X) Wildcard!
[ooc: As always, feel free to ping me if nothing strikes your fancy and we can plot!]

i have not taken its fangs for ritual components yet
[Does...that count as being nice?
Hopefully she meant that as a joke.]
no subject
[A long pause. He decides he'll play along with what is hopefully a joke.]
[I see. Do you think they would grow back?]
no subject
i may need to try the same with mine then
[Whether or not the familiar can read the talk they're having, it is already getting agitated - as if it can tell she's talking about taking it apart for her rituals again! It's just angrily nibbling at her sleeve and making typing a bit more difficult.]
these creatures are magical so I do not see why not
its seems to object quite strongly to me testing my theory though.
no subject
It might be best to put aside such plans either way though. Especially if you wish to have any sort of harmonious relationship with it.
[His own familiar is getting a bit curious now and nuzzling his good knee, causing Joshua to pet him idly.]
It's almost like having found a new relation. Both the joys and the annoyances.
no subject
it wont
it won't do me any favours if it grows to resent me
[There we go, that's an apostrophe!]
it does feel that way, doesn't it? a new relation or a new pet
no subject
At least this one won't nag you or ask when you will be married.
[Why is typing so slow? Why can't he just write with a pen?]
Though I suppose it trying to figure out what they want.</font?
no subject
that does sound rather frustrating
but politics will be politics
i certainly don't mind keeping the little one around
[A pause, before: ]
i appreciate the chance to practice with these
things
i never had much need to learn how to use them before coming here
no subject
But, are you saying you are familiar with such objects as these smartphones?
Because where I am from, telephones are much larger, bulkier and connected with wires.
Nothing so handy as this.
no subject
but i usually left this sort of thing to my master
i had no interest in them myself
it sounds as if much of this technology is new to you?
[At that point, she paused, scrolling back over their conversation.]
my name is caster
what should i call you
no subject
[She must work for a household then? But she is a very strange looking maid.]
But yes. It's very slow going learning to use it.
Caster?
But I am Joshua Edenic. I believe given the circumstances, Joshua is fine though.
no subject
a pleasure
learning these sorts of this is taking time but i am glad for the practice
[Now, as for his questions...]
caster is what i have been using for a while now as i was a sorceress before i arrived in this world
as for my master
i was assisting him in a war
but that is a rather longer story
[And typing all of that out would be a lot of effort.]
no subject
Granted, a lot has happened to make him more accepting of such matters as sorcery.]
Caster? That is a rather simple alias.
But I shall not pry then.
Is it going to be safe for you when you go back home though? Since you will be going back to a battlefield?
no subject
[It was her Servant Class, after all.]
i don't
no
no it won't be
but if i don't then archer's attack will hit hi
[No, she didn't want to share the truth just yet, so she stopped herself mid-word. If she didn't go back, she wouldn't be able to shield her Master from Archer's attack, and that thought was too much to bear.]
never mind
that is not something you need to concern yourself with
no subject
Then let us move on for real.
I shouldn't be forcing such conversation on a lady anyways.
I was raised better than that. So I apologize.
no subject
yes let us move on
raised better? are you of noble upbringing then?
no subject
It's nothing so impressive though.
Everything goes to my brother.
[And they owe many, many, many debts.]
no subject
but i suppose you still have your part to play in maintaining the family image and such
[In the distant past, she held a title of her own - but those days were long gone now.]
no subject
Though I think I am the last person who should be relied on the represent the family.
[He's about to disappoint everyone in a million different ways. Oh well, at least his disappointing people on his own terms for once.]
no subject
it sounds as if you have burned some bridges also
no subject
It's a relief though.
no subject
if you don't mind my asking
no subject
And I have learned that even if it feels like the world has ended, it never actually does.
no subject
[She'd...definitely had a miracle occur, when she thought it was all over.]
don't burn everything or you'll be left alone
no subject
But no, I do not plan on going that far. Not ever.
[If at least there's at least one person he can hold onto, then it should all work out. Probably.]
no subject
it is only when you truly have lost everything that you can set those last bridges alight
don't do that unless you have to
[It was something she knew far too well.]
