October Open Quest Log

🧙 WHO: Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck and whoever!
⚔️️ WHAT: Taking on a number of this month's quests
đź•’ WHEN: Throughout the first half of the month
🗺️ WHERE: Various places
⚠️ WARNINGS: Headless Horseman in Prompt B

A. Smashing Pumpkins [Pumpkin Mayhem - Drake/Darkwing]

[At first, Drake Mallard loved the idea of decorating some pumpkins! Nice way to get into the Halloween spirit. So one can join the civilian duck as he paints and/or carves some pumpkins. Of course, most of the designs he uses are based on Darkwing Duck and some of his villains! Join him during the calm before the storm and help him with decorating pumpkins... or when they start to come alive and take the off-duty hero by surprise!

Or later on, after he's made a costume change, Darkwing Duck will do some more patrols of the area and see if anyone else is having any trouble with rogue pumpkins...]

B. Heading Places [Don't Lost Your Head - Darkwing]

[When he hears rumors about the headless horseman, it sounds like a job for Darkwing Duck! ...A particularly scary job, but a job nonetheless!

And so, he ends up showing up to protect some volunteers who are cleaning up bodies in Celliwig. He keeps some distance from the volunteers and watches from the shadows because of his aesthetic. Perhaps someone is staking this out with him, or is one of the volunteers that this duck is trying to protect.

Or skip ahead to when the Headless Horseman makes his entrance, and Darkwing springs into action... starting with his catchphrase, of course!]

I am the terror that flaps in the night!
I am the dental floss that has been dropped into your candy bag!
I am... Darkwing Duck!

C. Beddy or Not [Bunker Down - Drake]

[So what happened at the end of last month sure was depressing! He felt some relief in being able to do his part to help save people from Lestari, but especially as a hero, he feels the punch from all of those that weren't saved elsewhere. So he throws himself into some relief work so that he can do something to help the survivors!

And so Drake can be seen at the woodworking sight, where he tries to help out with constructing some bunk beds. One can catch him in one of several scenarios. Tired out from all of his work, he could end up taking one of the unfinished beds for a trial run by passing out on it. Or he could be seen doing some strange work for one bed, like making the carving of a duck head coming from the foot of a bed, and also several imperfectly-shaped wheels off on the side... is he trying to make a Darkwing Duck racecar bed...?]

D. Wildcard

[ Well, if their ability to banter and set each other up perfectly for jokes in any indication, then real life isn’t going to be so different from that video game after all. ]

Not yet.

[ Those seem to be the magic words, however. Down the way, where some of the volunteers are doing the grim work of tending to the fallen, someone screams. ]

[ Just by virtue of stride, Juzo outpaces Darkwing, pulling ahead of his friend as they both make a mad dash for the source of the commotion.

There sure is a cloaked figure on horseback charging a small group of volunteers – and he sure is missing a head. Juzo wasn’t sure if that bit was literal or not, since one can never tell. Most of the volunteers scatter, but one woman gets tripped up in the chaos. Juzo springs forward to gather her into his arms and duck under the swing of the horseman’s blade. Steel clashes with steel in a shower of sparks as the blow glances off Juzo’s head.

Well, that could have gone much worse. He lets the woman go and turns to assess the enemy and wherever Darkwing’s ended up. ]

You came to the wrong place if you’re lookin’ to get ahead, buddy.

[ Ah, yes. It begins. ]

[ The smokescreen seems a little redundant, since Juzo has already stormed onto the scene, but he’s understanding that with Darkwing – video game or no video game – the intro is important.

It’s hard to tell just where the horseman is looking, since it doesn’t have a head and all, but Darkwing manages to catch its attention nicely, evident only because the horseman’s body language shifts in that direction.

In fact, the horseman spurs his horse on to charge right at Darkwing, sword flashing. It probably figures the one without the head made of metal makes a better target, but as it charges away from Juzo he snaps a hand out, grabbing ahold of the apparition’s cape with kinetic magic to yank him from the horse.

Of course, that still leaves the horse on a mad dash right at Darkwing. ]

[ Well, that sure is happening. Too bad the horseman himself is quick to get back on his feet and brandish his sword at Juzo. Juzo drops into a defensive stance while the ghost stares him down - Juzo assumes he’s staring, anyway. Hard to tell when the guy doesn’t have a head.

In the background, Darkwing and the horse speed by, and Juzo can only think, “Oh, hell.” ]

Grab the reins!

[ He’d help but he’s kind of busy here!! ]

[ He loses track of Darkwing and the horse for a moment because the horseman charges him with a swing of his blade. Juzo ducks under it and the two of them dance around a bit, dodging and attacking by turn. ]

Darkwing! Quit horsing around!

[ Maybe he can get the horseman into the path of the horse? But there’s no telling what the animal will do. ]

That one felt like a reach.

[ Somehow Juzo manages to sound deadpan even while fighting off a ghost with a sword. The horseman goes for an overhead swing, and Juzo blocks the blade with the back of his hand, sparks striking again as it hits the ammo chamber there.

But he does manage to keep the horseman’s sword locked up long enough for his own horse to plow right into him.

Juzo skips back a step to keep out of the way of flying hooves. ]

I’ll take that, though. Nice shot!
