Part of her wonders that if she had pointed out earlier that fae cannot and should never be trusted, maybe this could have been avoided or at least not been as bad as it turned out, but the more sensible side of her knows that something like that is only wishful thinking. No one would have had any reason to listen to her and her dislike of anything fae bordered on obsessive at times... she can't imagine it would have come across terribly well. Well... they'd all learned the lesson now, hadn't they.
But she's not entirely surprised it turned out like this.
When she spots Maruki sitting outside the bakery looking worse for wear, she observes him for a few moments while she decides if she actually wants to interrupt him. But-- He talks to her first.]
No. [She replies simply, moving closer so neither of them need to raise their voices.] But it looks like you do.

What? No! ( whoa, okay, Maruki. maybe a bit too quick on the protest there. ) I mean... I've been moving things from my home office to turn it into a spare bedroom. It's taken longer than I expected.
( he's just a bit physically worn down from all the stuff he's had to shift. and he hasn't even thought about a bed or cot yet.
ergo lunch. and a rather pedestrian, in comparison to Leblanc, coffee. man, Kurusu-kun's guardian would be a welcome sight if he came with a pot of whatever glorious golden delights he concocts for customers. )

(The gentleman doth protest too much, she thinks, if she knew the play to make the reference.)
Poison doesn't ask, she just slides herself into a chair across from him and gives him a silent, intense look for a few long moments. Her violet eyes look even more sullen than usual today - she's tired too.]
You've not been helping with the rescue efforts, then?
[No judgement, if he hasn't.]

I think I'd be more of a burden than a help there.
( he truly wanted to help, felt the crushing weight of once again not being enough, but logic won out in the heat of the moment. he was better focused at home, finding other ways to do something. preventing the disaster was impossible. he has to remember that. )
But, I am making room for any refugees who might need a place to stay. And my office is open to listen to their problems.
( does it sound a little like he's saying this more for his own benefit than Poison's? that's probably because he is. )

[She realises she probably sounded more judgemental than she intended to, but that does tend to be her way. Poison looks away, watching the people walking by for a few moments. Some of them look worried, but not all of them. She wonders what's going through the minds of those of them who just look like they are going about their day. Are they just hiding it better?]
I didn't go out anywhere either. I know I'd just be in the way.
[While Poison has a knife and knows how to use it, going up against large foes like dragons isn't her area of expertise.]
It's hard sometimes, isn't it.

like with the day Rumi's parents were killed, where if he'd only been stronger, if he hadn't frozen in fear, he might have been able to do something. protect her, protect them. prove himself a worthy fiancé for her. he promised he would change, do better.
and instead he remained here, because no matter how much he might be trying to get into shape, there's a huge difference between that and the kind of thing that was asked of the otherworlders recently. )
... It is. I can't imagine I would ever be able to fight side by side with some of the people who have arrived here. What little support I can offer is, well, not very useful during a crisis like that.
( he's better in the aftermath, and right now, he hates that. )

[And it was a hard thing for Poison to admit that she would be of no use out there, so she's been trying to find something to do here instead. When they get back, she isn't sure what use she could be then either.
Poison taps her fingertips against the table, frowning down at the ground for a moment.]
Should have known something like this would happen. [She says then, sounding bitter.] You can't trust the fae.
no subject
It sounds like you have experience with the fae.
( that sounds like the words of someone who has experience more personal than simply reading it in a book. )
no subject
[And that's not said with any kind of pride. Her experience of the fae was not good or pleasant and it has made her suspicious of any and all fae she has come across even outside of her own world. Often with very good reason.]
But I don't expect that anyone would listen to me. [Because people are stupid.]
They're going to have to be burned by them a few times to realise that dealing with them never leads to anything good.
