i. hot knights
a. undercover
[There had never been any question as to whether or not Jade would take this job. The description alone brought back countless too-vivid memories, the bright reds and golds of the casino at Octagonia still burned deep into her memory, along with the cries of those who had been captured to become food or playthings for monsters— or, in many cases, monsters themselves. Indeed, there is no question about what needs to be done for these Celliwig knights, and while the predicament she had found herself in upon storming Octagonia on her own should give her pause, it doesnât. Instead, it only fuels her further, driving her to make use of her experiences in that place to get in and get out undetected.
She opts to go undercover. At last, that costume some power had seen fit to have accompany her to Camelot as some kind of cosmic joke will finally be put to good use.
Itâs mildly unsettling how quick the establishment is to take on new talent, but Jade has already decided that this is the best way to gather the information necessary to free the captured knights without causing more ruckus than she absolutely has to. And, should things fall apart and the situation ends up requiring a more direct, violent approach— well, win-win for her. Sheâll take that, too.
Of course, being undercover means actually having to do the job, though as a new âemployee,â sheâs fortunate enough to end up waiting tables. She approaches the table sheâd been pointed towards by the bartender with a tray of glasses, collecting herself and letting her lips curl into a sly smile as she does so.]
Hey, there. First timer?
[Regular patron, fellow would-be knight-rescuer, familiar face, or some combination of the above? You decide.]
b. rescue
[Once she has the opportunity to break away from the main floor of the club, Jade spends every free moment she has trying to figure out the layout of the building, mapping out escape routes in her head. None of her breaks are long enough for her to make as much progress as she would like, but once her shift is over in the early morning hours, she quickly sets to finding where the Celliwig knights are being kept. Whether the owner of this place means to use them as talent or keep them as pets, it doesnât matter— she intends to see each and every one of them set free, and any other unwilling souls who have found themselves trapped here, besides.
Why, of all things, must places like this be constants between worlds?
Once the captives are located, she starts making quick work of the bonds holding one particularly despondent-looking knight— he shies away from her when she first approaches, assuming her to be in league with their captor, but she quickly shakes her head as she frees his wrists.]
Keep it down! Iâm getting you out of here!
[Here to help out, or maybe a captive yourself? Whichever the case, better get out quick before drawing too much attention.]
c. wildcard
[Maybe you, too, have chosen to go undercover. Maybe youâre among those friends Jade has informed of her whereabouts— just to be safe— and want to make sure sheâs not getting in over her head. Perhaps youâve found yourself in a compromising position in trying to take this job on for yourself, maybe even caught the eye of this establishmentâs monster madame while trying to help the captured knights? Whatever it is thatâs brought you to this monster-run strip club, it probably wonât be easy to get out alone and unscathed. Time to join forces!]
ii. shear determination
[Jade hadnât fully appreciated how tall a single foot wasnât until she saw these sheep in person. Even aside from their fire-breathing abilities, she can see why even experienced sheep-shearers might have trouble with these— a cautious approach was going to be necessary.
She exhales as she collects herself, folding her arms in front of her as she gamely looks to her partner for this particular quest. No time like the present!]
Well, then. Any thoughts on our plan of attack?
[Caution should definitely be at the forefront of their minds, she thinks. If they do well here, it will be well worth it— the pay being offered is nothing to sneeze at.]
iii. national mushroom month
[Normally, Jade is inclined to take the more active sort of odd jobs that pop up throughout Camelot— typically those that require a rather physical solution in the interest of playing to her strengths, but the simplicity of gathering mushrooms for National Mushroom Month had appealed to her in a way she couldnât quite explain. As a result, she now finds herself at the edge of the Dusklight Woods with whoever else has seen fit to volunteer for this particular task, gathering and sorting mushrooms depending on whatâs fit to eat and whatâs better off being sent to the apothecary.
She pauses to give one an experimental sniff after picking, looking thoughtful for a moment.]
This one is safe.
[Into the growing basket of edible mushrooms it goes. Something about foraging reminds her of some of the warmer moments in her childhood; there hadnât been many, to be sure, but she and Rab had spent so much time on the road fending for themselves that there had certainly been many instances in which the only thing they had to eat was whatever they could find for themselves in the wild. A faint smile pulls at one side of her mouth as she approaches the next cluster of mushrooms; when she had been small, sheâd always hated chores like these, but Rab had managed to spin things by turning foraging into a sort of game, knowing that speaking to her competitive nature always put the princess in better spirits.
Fond memories are interrupted as she investigates the next bunch, recoiling and wrinkling her nose as the scent marks them as clearly not safe to eat.]
Ah— apothecary, for these. [She makes sure to put it in with the appropriate findings, then looks to whoever is gathering alongside her.] I think itâs been an even split so far. Find anything particularly interesting?
iv. shining karaoke
[Jadeâs work at Shining Karaoke typically keeps her in the kitchen, but tonight the establishmentâs public bar had been a bit short-handed, and with the security portion of her job being typically light given the nature of the business, she had been quick to offer her help. It was good for her to keep busy, especially lately, and over the last few months sheâs found herself quite at ease with the barâs general ambience.
She smiles and approaches any newly-arrived patrons who may head towards the bar, leaning against it with one arm as she inclines her head to greet them.]
Looking to make use of a room, or just here for a drink?
[Either way, sheâs happy to help.]
C - A Girls' Night Out
If something is going on and there's something they can do to put a stop to it or otherwise address it, isn't that their responsibility? The lack of action can, at times, be just as awful as taking the wrong action. In fact, sometimes even doing the wrong thing is better than doing nothing at all. The moment Tifa shares what limited information she's got takes barely any thought from Aerith before she decides that she must come along.
And assist.
The actual environment of where they mean to infiltrate is... a little much. It's like the Honeybee all over again, except... Well. There are some obvious differences. Aerith has the good sense not to seem too terribly evident in her reaction, however. She does, however, edge in closer to Tifa, curling an arm around hers before she leans into her ear, using a quiet and unsuspecting voice that's easily drowned out by the noise embracing them.]
Oh, you know... maybe we should've dressed more appropriately. Think we can find any spare costumes?
[Maybe it's time to get their risqué dressing on. If she can convince Tifa into that. But there's always more than one way to get a job done.]
no subject
So when Aerith pulls herself closer to Tifa, she mirrors her movements and does the same, clutching onto her arm at the door.]
Uhh...
[A shirtless man with a tray wanders by, and he flexes his muscles for them before continuing on to a table, and Tifa can feel the heat shoot up into her cheeks. Maybe she didn't think this through as well as she should have, and the realization lunges further to the forefront of her mind when she spots the costumes she assumes Aerith is talking about. They didn't exactly dress appropriately, it's true, and they stick out like sore thumbs. Especially when she sees what some of the women are wearing.]
Maybe...? You think it might make it easier?
[And among them... is that... a bunny suit!?]
no subject
Even so, she's a bit surprised by the familiar face she does end up spotting, complete with company, and upon doing so, she quickly reroutes her way through the club, hoping to intercept before another host or hostess can get to them and cost her the opportunity to reach out. She'll have to be careful what she says— the crowd is noisy, but they're still in the open and there are ears everywhere, but it won't take much for her to confirm that they're here for the same reason.
She puts on her best hostess smile as she sweeps in from behind to put herself between the two of them and the doorman, ushering them both forward and further into the club, away from prying ears.]
Good evening, ladies— here to work or play?
[She might be laying it on a little thick, but fitting in is a must. Regardless, that smile doesn't reach her eyes as she seeks to meet Tifa's gaze, her own searching. Everything okay?]
no subject
[Her attention turns.
"...here to work or play?"
She's seen Jade in passing, she's sure, though this is really the first time she's gotten a good look at her. But she notes the way the gaze flutters right over to Tifa and it doesn't take her very long to figure out that the two of them must know of one another. Good on Tifa for reaching out and making some friends here. Aerith swells with pride and makes a note to affectionately tease her about it later.
Her own gaze turns onto Tifa and she raises her eyebrows with something akin to implied hope.]
Work, I think? Maybe?
[...Is it really work if she's going to be having a good time?]
no subject
But Jade's look when their gazes meet is telling on its own, as is the way she layers the play on thick in her voice.
The question posed at her has Tifa's lips pressing shut, into a thin, uncertain line. The outfits here are... interesting, to say the least, more so now that she's been able to get a better look at some of them. Nothing that she would put on voluntarily for a night out on the town, so... her answer seems like an obvious one.
There's a nervous laugh when she slowly looks to Aerith, and she gives a tilt of her head.]
Let's go with work...?
[Honestly, her initial idea was to just run in guns blazing to get these men out, but with the amount of people milling about, it might not be the best one.]
no subject
Perfect.
[She should have known this ad would have caught several people's interest, and honestly, she's glad for it. Trying to take down Booga's operation back home on her own had been, despite her best efforts, a mistake. Friendly faces here meant a higher chance of success.]
Why don't the two of you follow me? Once you're comfortable, we can discuss how best you'd like to enjoy your evening here.
[And, with any luck, the table will be remote enough that they can talk freely for a few minutes without being overheard.
She beckons for them both to follow, starting to weave her way through the crowd, staff and patrons alike constantly on the move, though her presence does seem to carve a path for them as they forge ahead— a subtle use of dark magic to compel people away from her and turn their attention elsewhere, even if only for a moment or two at a time. It's come in handy, so far.
She pauses beside a table with a corner booth, gesturing for both of them to make themselves comfortable.]
After you, ladies.
no subject
...Maybe. Jade's pretty cute in hers, though.
She follows right along after Jade and at the corner booth, she gives Tifa a reassuring smile. Everything's going to be fine. She doesn't say it, but she's sure her expression gets that point across. She slides right into the booth and leans onto the table as she tries to get a look around to assess the situation.]
Let's get some drinks, too. At least for now. Appearances and all.
no subject
And then she's sitting down at a booth, still especially close to Aerith, appreciative of that reassuring look she gets from her. Tifa shifts in her seat until she's comfortable, and peers over both of her shoulders. Oh... The stage is right there, and there's a man, and he's half-naked, and he's coming this way, and now he's dancing, andâ
Tifa snaps her head back around.]
Uhh! A drink sounds good.
no subject
There's going to be a lot of that, I'm afraid.
[Steel yourself, Tifa.]
I'll be right back with drinks— then we can discuss where the evening takes us from there, hm?
[Vague enough that nobody who might by some slim chance overhear will be able to make heads or tails of what she means, at least. She quickly excuses herself, leaving Tifa and Aerith to their own devices for a few short minutes before she returns with a tray of drinks— colorful-looking cocktails across the board for each of them, setting them down on the table before helping herself to a seat in the booth, as well.]
I'm assuming you're both here for the reason I think you are?
no subject
...Was Cloud this distracted with the girls in their cute little bee outfits? Probably not.
She offers a nod to Jade, a silent answer, before she gives a smile to Tifa. They are entirely out of their respective elements, but it could be worse. There could be a lack of eye candy. Not that Aerith is in the market for eye candy. Just that the only way to proceed through a difficult situation is to pick out the silver lining.]
Everything'll be fine.
[Famous last words perhaps.
When Jade makes her return, Aerith perks right back up. Drinks. Just what they need. They're so bright and cheerful that it could almost make her forget why they're here to begin with. She wastes little time in claiming one very colourful cocktail and she takes a sip, contemplating how to answer in the most cryptic fashion.]
Uhmmm. We might be here for the same reason you are?
[She offers a look over to Tifa, raising her eyebrows. They could come out of this with jobs. That's only just now occurred to her.]
no subject
There isn't too much need to be so subtle, especially not with the music thumping away, so when she feels their eyes turn to her, she sets the drink down with a decisive, sharp sigh. Just ignore the shuffling behind and all will be fine. Just like Aerith said.]
Yeah. And we're going to need to blend in if we don't want eyes on us.
[Which means that yes, costumes would be for the best, as much as she hates to admit. Details first, though.]
... But I don't even know who we're looking for, or where.
no subject
Well, friends, as luck would have it, I do know who and where. That's the good news. As for blending in, you're fine at the moment— this place sees all kinds of patrons, but if I'm going to get either of you in the back, a change of clothes might not be a terrible idea.
[There are other options, as well, but given that she's only a waitress, she doubts she can use the 'paid for a private room' excuse without raising eyebrows.
Giving them both a smile that seems considerably more natural than the one she'd offered as hostess, she inclines her head and nods to Aerith, laying a hand over her chest.]
I'm Jade, by the way. Tifa and I have worked together before.
no subject
Well. Words can't be used for everything. Aerith is a hopeful optimist, but not a fool.
She brightens up at the idea of a change of clothes.]
Oh, boy! Do we get to do costumes?
[Maybe she shouldn't sound so enthused about that, considering the gravity of the situation. But that's herâalways looking at the proverbial glass as if it's half-full.
When Jade more properly introduces herself, Aerith looks between her and Tifa, knowing very well she'd been trying to establish how they knew one another. Setting her glass down, which by this point is magically empty, she motions to herself.]
I'm Aerith. Tifa and I come from the same place. She's like... my best friend slash sister?
[Yes, she decides. That sounds about right.]
no subject
But she nods along in agreement with Aerith, smiling while she takes the straw between her lips again.]
Best friend slash sister.
I[t's repeated out loud more for herself, reminding her that she does indeed have a friend like that here. Best friend slash sister... It does have a nice ring to it.
She turns between the two ladies, setting her glass down again so that she can spread her hands out on the table. Ah, it's... sticky. Never mind. Back into her lap they go.]
I think getting into the back is our best bet, but how are we going to get our hands on those costumes without anyone noticing...? There are more people here than I was expecting.
no subject
I see— it's a pleasure to meet you, even if it's under questionable circumstances.
[A rescue mission isn't really the best place to get to know one another, but on the other hand...
Well, depending on how it goes, Jade has to admit it does have the potential to be fun, once the knights in question are safe.
She exhales and adopts a thoughtful expression as she considers both of their suggestions. Really, this ought to be quite doable, especially if she brings some of her magic into place.]
I could take the two of you back under the pretense of being new hires. Act with enough confidence and you can get away with anything, really. And— some compulsion magic might not hurt. There are no wards here against it.
ARRIVES LATE WITH BUBBLE TEA.
Leaning onto her forearms as she exchanges her gaze between Tifa and Jade, she listens intently. She can't remember having a lot of opportunities to practise the arts of subterfuge in the past, but there's a first time for everything. The prospect of being a new hireâpretending to be, anywayâis an appealing one. But that's because she's still viewing it through the lens of adventure.
She nods slowly.]
I have elemental magic. Not sure how useful it'll be, but I'm sure I can use it for something. [She's taking another moment to assess the club and its various accents here and there. If need be, there's plenty of things not bolted down that they could probably use. Hopefully it won't come to that, but...] Tifa and I can act. We're both pretty good at it.
[She looks over to Tifa with a knowing smile. A certain adventure with Don Corneo settles in her mind.]
now I want bubble tea đ„ș
We've had some practice.
[All three of them are on the same page at least with the need for subtlety, except this might have to be handled a little more delicately. Where there were only the three of them at Corneo's, there are others they need to watch out for this time. Not just the knights, but the other people in the club as well. Innocent people who can't get caught up in the crossfires of the job, so they'll need to be more careful.]
So, after we get the costumes, what'll it be? Do we know where she's keeping them? What we should be looking out for?
[Do any of them even know what these Knights look like?]
I, too, desire bubble tea...
[There's a note of warmth in her voice as well as her smile, and she gives both women a nod of approval— with three of them on the job, that's more pairs of able hands in addition to more eyes to keep watch. Tifa, she knows, is trustworthy, thus making Aerith so by association. If she had to pick up conspirators on the fly, she's glad it was them who came through the front door.]
I've been trying to get to know the layout of the place during my breaks. It's something of a maze back there, but I've narrowed down their possible locations to a couple of places. There are some storage rooms that are kept locked, but there are also performer dressing rooms that don't belong to anyone at present— yet are being kept under guard on top of being locked.
[She raises both eyebrows.]
Beyond suspicious, I think. Once we have costumes, we could charm our way through— I don't know that naturally would work, no matter how much acting experience we might have among the three of us, but I do have magic that could force the issue. Buy us a little time before security catches on.
no subject
Of course, there's also the thought of what might happen if things don't work out. They could be too late. They could much something up pretty badly. This isn't exactly a happy-go-lucky situation. But Aerith is optimistic. They can find a way if they work together and earnestly, she believes this.]
Dressing rooms that aren't being used, but are being guarded for some very suspicious reason. Probably worth checking those out if we can get into them. Not sure how the charm thing will work, though... We might be able to flirt our way past, but that might not work, as you said. Don't suppose we have any magic that might just... knock them out or something? I mean, I guess we could do it without magic, but that sounds messy.
[And loud.]
no subject
If it comes down to it, I could figure something out to get past the guards.
[She doesn't like it, but she's willing to put those issues aside if it means finding these knights and getting them out of here. If one of them could charm their way past the guards, then it wouldn't arouse any suspicion that magic or shoving their way through full speed ahead would. And she's had some experience telling men things they want to hear...
And if that doesn't work, then brute force was never off the table. She's just going to need to finish the rest of her drink first, which she does, throwing it down in a single go.]
Let's worry about getting those costumes first. That's the easy part, yeah?
[Before she changes her mind about this whole thing and decides to just punch her way through.]
no subject
Maybe she will just for the hell of it as they get near the end.
She gives Tifa a nod of agreement, looking between the both of them even as she slides out of the booth and beckons for them to follow.]
I do have magic that might put them to sleep, but I think using it to enhance persuasion might draw less attention. First thing's first, though— costumes.
[Which, in all honesty, is at least a little fun. If the circumstances were different, Jade might actually be enjoying this whole undercover gig.]
Both of you, follow me to the back. If anyone stops us, I'll handle it, but just— act like you're supposed to be there. I bet we won't even get a second look.
no subject
Aerith doesn't take very long to remove herself from her side of the booth and as she's waiting for Tifa, she takes another moment to examine their surroundings. The gears are still turning and she's still trying to develop a way to get into what has the potential to become a very large mess without them causing an absolute spectacle about it all. Not that she minds a spectacle personally, but at the same time, she'd like that to be a last resort if possible.
It might very well not be possible when she's considering the situation as a whole.
Jade's input, however, gives her hope.]
Are all the costumes like yours or are there some other ones, too? Like maybe a mascot outfit...?
[Because honestly, when she's thinking about it, the idea of her or Tifa dressed up as something like a moogle sounds equally amazing. Once again, when it comes down to not having to hurt anyone (if they don't have to), Aerith might be enjoying this a touch more than she ought to. But that's the cost of adventure for a girl who's only recently gotten to taste what 'adventure' might be like.]
I'm not picky or anything. I'll wear pretty much anything you give me.
[Famous last words.]
no subject
Tifa only makes an unsure noise at Aerith's declaration before she's following Jade, because what kind of outfits are there, she wonders? She isn't the biggest fan of having to wear a bunny suit, never mind anything else that they might find in the back... No sense in worrying about it though, and it will only draw more attention to them, so she'll walk the walk as if she belongs.
And of course, they won't get very far before they're stopped. A large, burly man—that Tifa can only assume is one of the guards—with horns jutting out both sides of his head stomps up and stops in front of Jade, his small, yellow eyes gazing at the new women. He growls under his breath in a vain attempt to intimidate them.]
"Who're these two? Why aren't you in uniform?"
no subject
[She trails off momentarily, pressing her lips together as she considers. There probably is. That has to be someone's kink, and in a place like this, such things are to be capitalized on.
... she'd rather not think about that any further, if she can help it.
She beckons for both women to follow her, but indeed, they don't get terribly far before they're stopped. Jade offers the man in question her sweetest smile, recognizing him as security, and lightly brings her index finger to rest against her chin as she makes an effort to hold his attention.]
They're both new, like me— I'm taking them to get dressed now and show them around. They need a little fixing up before performing! You know how it goes.
[The monstrous guard's stance seems to relax slightly, and he looks between the three of them, curious.
"Lot of new additions lately."]
no subject
Just smile through it.
A little sprinkling of her shows through in the way she wiggles her fingers flirtatiously at the monstrous guard before he relaxes.
"Lots of new additions lately."]
I fell in love with the lights and the music. I'm actually kicking myself for not working here sooner. But it's better late than never, right? I can't wait to show you all how much heart I have.
[â„]
But the thing is, I just don't know what kind of outfit will look best on me. What do you think, Mister Tall and Handsome?
[She's laying it on thick. And the monstrous guard? Well, he's not prepared for that kind of response and while he's thinking of an answer, he decides it better to put his attention back onto Jade.
"Uh. She'll help you find something, miss. Ma'am. Lady. But uh. Something probably pink."
Definitely not prepared for how strong Aerith can come off when she wants to.]
(no subject)
