Quest | Don’t Treep, Man

[ gran remembers the undead— it was nasty and all around unpleasant to deal with. but at least with their disappearance, he could focus on other things. when he heard the news that the crops were badly damaged, he knew he had to help.

with his experience living as a jack-of-all-trades, gran was doing everything he could get his hands on, from repairing the fences to trying to arrange proper irrigation channels in some fields so that all he had to do was let water flow and let the system do the heavy lifting. he was even making lemonade with some of the locals, just to cool off and spread good vibes. ]

Quest | Invasive Species

[ as much as gran loved animals, it wasn’t often that he had to cull them. it tore a hole in his heart to do such a thing, but sometimes it was a necessary part of life, especially with the threat of them trying to destroy the food chain.

anyone with a sharp eye could tell that gran was not really into culling the animals, but his sword swings were clearly meant to kill as quickly as possible. it was just his way of trying to end it quickly and quietly. ]

Side Quest | Open House

[ gran had never lived in the lap of luxury. it was such a far away concept that he’s never really been aware of what luxury really was.

maybe this is what everyone one means when they say luxurious… gran thinks to himself as he experiences each and every little thing that the castle has to offer. but even new experiences have to come to an end, so he finds himself relaxing in the rose garden with a satisfied look on his face. ]

Wow, all of that was so new…. [ he was clearly talking to himself, but the open-ended nature of the sentence begs to be completed. ]

Side Quest | How To Gun?

[ when news hit that he had gotten something from home, he shot out of bed and quickly raced to see what it was. soon enough, he finds himself with Selene, a futuristic looking handgun, and he’s very much tempted to try it out, but soon realized that he only had a certain amount of bullets. but of course, nothing stops the captain, so he quickly manages to grab a couple blank and dummy cartridges (as eugen has told him before that those were the best for practicing) before heading to the training grounds.

this, however, is where it shows that gran isn’t the best at firearms. he’s trying to figure out how, well… everything works. he’s clearly confused, simply staring at the gun as he sits cross legged in front of it. ]

[A2 smiled as she made her way to the farmyard. She had offered to help at least bring water to the people working. Though she knew that she'd probably do some work in order to help get things moving and done for them. As she was passing out some water she spotted a familiar head and started over to him.]

Water? You aren't able to keep going without hydrating you know.

[granmaster]

Oh, thank you— oh, hey, A2!

[ gran had finally given himself a break from all the work, only to blink when he heard the familiar voice. was it really…? a quick turn around and he was faced with a2, and his tired smile grew bigger. ]

Thanks for the water— I was just about to get one, actually. You saved me the trip!

You're welcome. You seem to be working your ass off. It's the least I can do.

[She adjusts the basket with water to rest on her hip.]

It looks like things are going pretty good here at least. Especially after last month.

Yeah, this place was a mess when we started…

[ it was a mess and gran was sure he could’ve saved himself some headache if he had helped out in the beginning, but other things swept him up. ]

But we’ve done a lot of good work here, so we should be done somewhat soon, I hope!

That's good. It does seem to be coming along well at least. I'm sure that the farmers will be really appreciative.

[A warm smile crosses her lips.]

I'll make sure you and the others don't drop down from heat. I have the water.

[She winks, quite happy visiting with her friend.]

Oh yeah, I’m sure they will! After all, it isn’t often they get this much help, I’m sure.

[ gran laughs, reminded of his home on a remote island and just how valuable help really was. ]

Please do, actually, this heat is kind of unbearable.

[ says the boy in a hoodie. ]

I wouldn't know, but after the destruction, it must feel good to them that people care enough to help put it back right.

[She glanced at his hoodie and smiles.]

Might help to keep your temperature more even if you take your long sleeve off.

[Not long after a certain encounter and before things go downhill, Eustace will suddenly burst through Gran's door one fine morning, a rather intense expression on his face.]

We're looking for a new place to live.

Now.

[Usually when Eustace is this urgent there's some important, high stakes mission or emergency happening. And there is definitely something that's got the Erune on high alert and tense.]

eustace the door….. you gotta pay that too…..

[granmaster]

[ gran was spending some time surfing the online services through his phone when eustace burst through his door, which causes the captain to hug Joy close out of pure instinct.

but then the erune spoke, and gran could only nod stiffly. yep, something’s got him on high alert and he’s gotta listen to that. ]

Sure… let me just get my shoes on, okay?

it's fine gran can just alchemy it back together--

[Eustace remains by the door, arms crossed over his chest as his gaze switches between watching Gran as if trying to urge him to move faster and back out in the hall. There's even agitated tap of his finger against his arm as he "waits."]

[granmaster]

[ once gran was all ready to go and alchemizes the door back together— he’s not about to have his things stolen thank you very much, he gives him the danchou look.

a look that demands a whole lot of answers and not backing down for a moment. ]

What’s the matter? You’re normally not like this.

[flamekthunder]

[Eustace had been staring down the hallway, that tense, pensive air about him unrelenting before Gran speaks to him. His focus shifts...before it goes back again.]

...Not here, outside.

[And he's already walking.]

[granmaster]

Right.

[ he knows it's not worth fighting-- eustace will tell him when he tells him. but that doesn't stop him from staring right into his back and trying to find out on his own as he follows. ]

how to gun

You've got yourself a nice weapon there.

[ Akira stands just behind Gran when he's focused on the gun in front of him. Actually, since it's a rather unusual way to be trying out a firearm, he adds after a little while: ]

Can I shoot you a question? [ Akira... ] Is it cursed or something?

[granmaster]

[ gran blinks when akira speaks, looking over his shoulder to see the newcomer. he continues to blink, unsure what to make of him until he speaks once more. right, he had to answer.

was that a pun— ]

Ah, no it’s not cursed. I just… don’t know how to use firearms. Never learned how to, aside from gun safety from some of my friends.

[ just gonna ignore that, huh gran!! ]

[fooligans]

[ It certainly was... ]

I recommend taking it in your hand first.

[ That's a very valuable first lesson. ]

Can I take it for a moment? Just want to try something.

[granmaster]

[ and gran does take it in his hand, feeling the weight of selene in his hands. from what he remembered, it was a lot heavier than it was back home. possibly because it lacked the automagod’s power? a lot of questions were buzzing in his head, only interrupted by akira’s question. ]

Oh, sure. Go right ahead. [ he holds it out for him, curious as to what he’d do. ]

[fooligans]

[ After getting permission, Akira takes the gun from Gran and weighs it in his hand for a moment before gripping the handle tight. With the muzzle aimed at one of the training dolls, Akira holds the stance but doesn't do anything more than that. ]

It's a fine weapon. If you need practice, I can help a little.

[ He could pass on Gran what Shinya taught him. ]

[granmaster]

[ gran watches him in both awe and surprise. he didn't take akira for a marksman, but then again, he knew better than to judge anyone by appearances.

he nods eagerly at the offer, eyes shining bright-- something was better than nothing. ]

Invasive Species

[Even Kainé with her violent tendencies isn't keen on killing animals. Shades were one thing. But she made it a habit to not use her blades on innocents; people or animals. Her familiar, a tsukumogami book, floats behind her; uncharacteristically quiet.

Having just arrived here, she needed money, and this was the only thing she thought she was good for; fighting, killing. She might not be a Shade-possessed anymore, but the sins never go away.

So here she is, helping with the culling of the troublemakers when she spots Gran with a mirrored expression to her own.

The woman who approaches Gran and speaks is dressed in lingerie and heels (no bandages) two serrated swords held at her sides.]

You too?

[Her tone is soft, a direct opposite of her normal demeanor.]

[granmaster]

[ gran nodded, looking at the woman afterwards. while the lingerie look was new, it didn't exactly bother him. people could dress however they want, after all. he was just happy to hear that there were others in the world who felt the same way he did. ]

Yeah... do you know how much more there are left?

[ anything to finish. ]

No clue.

[Still, she's used to killing. This guy, she can tell doesn't really have the stomach for it.]

You uh... doing it for the cash?

[granmaster]

[ a sigh. ] Well, hopefully it ends soon.

[ gran just wants it over with. the less blood on his hands, the better, even if it was just animal blood. ]

Yeah. It's not the best job out there, but it is what it is. I'm assuming you are too?

[Kainé looks out over the immediate area, not seeing anything yet, but still keeping a lookout. When she turns her attention back to Gran, she starts for a moment but quickly recovers.]

Tell ya what. Lemme finish up here and I'll split the reward.

[ gran blinked. that was... a rather strange offer from someone he just met. ]

H-Hey, are you sure? I really don't mind pulling my own weight.
