Quest: Animal Effects
[ He had woken up as fully human this morning. By afternoon, that is not the case. With dragon-like features and markings-- scales of obsidian highlighting his cheeks and arms; a slender, shadowy tail lifting his cloak behind him; long, black nail for claws; and two dark horns crowning his head-- Somnus appears to have been affected by the animal mages' curse.
With dissatisfaction, he stares at the back of his hand where a few scales peek out from the top of his forearm bracer, and with a click of his tongue he turns on his heels. This puts him right in front of you.
Unfortunately, the dragon features give his usual severe expression an even more ferocious accent.
Or, maybe, his new dragon-tail has accidentally swiped you off of your feet as he's turned. ]
Baths
[ The castles' baths are far more luxurious than that of the Red Spring's, and for whatever reason, Somnus can be found within them. He's not indulging, per se, but for those who know him, he looks oddly more at peace. For once, the grim shroud of his brow is not so lowered or taught, and his jaw is relaxed, lips slightly parted as he inhales the misty air of the bathes through his nose. Those that know him will find that this more peaceful state may make him appear almost, well, younger.
...The faint lightening-web like scars that travel up an arm, however, appear paler that usual in the baths' lighting. ]
Quest: Not-So-Good Morning (CW: Corpses and murder)
[ A corpse sways in the wind, suspended by ropes from a lamp post. While this world is not without crime of its own-- as he would assume no Star to be without-- he doesn't expect a hanging to be displayed in the middle of the street.
He is not the only one, either. By the time of morning he's come around to encounter this corpse, so have a few others. They now gather in a semi-circle around the display. Perhaps you are among them. He comments, speculating: ] Perhaps the offenders wished for a spectacle.
Wildcard
[ Have an idea? Wild card me here, PM this account, PPdrinksteapots, or DM Jade294#6977 on disco! ]
not-so-good
[Cecelia's expression is stony, but harsh - far more restrained than the sharpness of her tone.]
And all are going to simply stand about and gawk, are they? Get out of my way! [she's going to shove past him and anyone still ogling to try and get to the body.] Cut them down or move so I may!
no subject
It doesn’t seem as if anyone else is offering to cut the body down. There are, however, some grateful whispers the fearful crowd that someone is putting an end to such a brazenly morbid display. ]
no subject
a small unicorn manifests in a slow emergence of glitter, standing at attention at Cecelia's side as she comes up to the dangling body. once she's done looking over the state of the ties, the half-elf nods down to the familiar, accepting the assist to make the ground below her crack and swell. concrete be damned, the earth will come up and lift her to the level of the body and its restraints.
with a flick of its head, a little spark jumps from the unicorn horn to Cecelia's fingers, and she burns off one of the larger knots, catching the fraying cord before it can fall entirely free.]
Uffh--!
[strength is not her greatest trait, so she staggers a bit as the weight of the body slumps against her. it makes her skin crawl, but what the hell else is she to do?!
as the small pillar of earth recedes, lowering her to the ground, she calls aloud, glaring at the building ahead of her:] Oh, don't make me do all the work! One of you come over here and help me with this already!
no subject
As she expresses her grievance from the lack of help, she'll find that the body will begin to become lighter, as if lifted by an invisible force. Slowly the corpse begins to float parallel to the ground.
He needn't raise a hand to exercise his power.
Before the din of frightened murmurs can become startled cries of foul play or undead magics, at last he steps forth and speaks, voice cutting plainly above the crowd. The locals part for him. ]
Where would you have them be moved?
no subject
no sooner does she do so than the mage reveals himself, and she turns her head to regard him.
without missing a beat:] Here, this clear sp--move. [she shoots an icy glare at someone encroaching, which sends them scattering.] Here is fine. None too far from the incident, but given something of dignity, thank you.
no subject
While he had stepped out from the crowd, he still stands a respectful distance from the body. Yet, his gaze seems to be fixed upon it.
Then he takes a step away. ]
Someone will need to claim the body.
no subject
[in the meanwhile, she's going to help settle the limbs in some respectable, but easy-to-investigate fashion, murmuring something elvish under her breath.
this isn't how she wants to test out her latent blood magic, but by gods, she's not going to walk around with someone's blood on her, is she? so after she's uttered her prayers of condolence, she coaxes the blood staining her dress and shawl out, letting it coagulate into something of a form over her fingers while she fishes around in her satchel for an empty vial to let it accumulate in.]
no subject
But his gaze shifts to her as she manipulates the blood from fabric and into a vial. ]
What manner of magic is that?
no subject
I've got some capacity to manipulate blood - perhaps an aspect enhanced by the elements I can already interact with as you've seen.
In any case-- [she sets the vial down, now procuring a journal and quill, tearing a free sheet out (tragic) and tapping the quill tip to wake up the ink.] Can you mark the time? Or rather, time you spotted this scene? I'll leave some notes for the authorities.
no subject
By the time I had come upon this corpse, others had already gathered. If you will be investigating this further, I suggest you speak to the others here.
[ The monotone with which he speaks may indicate that he believes this is neither his business nor his job. ]
no subject
no subject
Somnus looks at her. ] You mean to suggest I am a suspect?
no subject
...but she also doesn't feel she has the stomach to be near this body much longer, so she doesn't pose the question again, instead just tearing her page of notes and leaving it under the shoulder of the body.
she rises with a soft huff, frowning down at the sight at her feet.]
A waste. A frozen calamity in the heavens and someone's up to this nonsense. [typical, really.] Pardon me.
[she'll make to skirt around him and out of here.]
