[Near the beginning of the month, Eustace helps with the farmers, taking it as more opportunities to work on his communication with other animals. But he'll also help out with some of the physical labor aspects as well.
1. Herding. Taking the form of a black sheep dog, Eustace will run out to help corral those wayward animals, even help by communicating with any other dogs that might be around to direct them. Of course, sometimes trying to get clues to where the other members of the herd can be difficult, and there are times a dog can be seen lowly growling at a cow or sheep as he tries to make sense of what they're saying. He'll even pair up with anyone else who is out there, animal mage or not, and will be useful to get in close to the animals to drive them back. Of course he has limits to his magic, so there when not using magic, he'll ride out on a horse instead. It never really occurred to him to use his magic on it, but he does find communicating with it a lot easier.
2. Helping hand. When not out running around trying to get the animals back, Eustace will be helping repairing buildings. Mending fences, bringing in wood, sorting the feed—he'll be displaying a surprising amount of knowledge and ease working in a place like this.
Also do not mind the gratuitous fanservice as without his cloak on, the Erune fashion preference of wearing backless, sideless tops will be on full display.]

⊗ b: task - invasive species
[Knowing full well the necessity of controlling animal populations, Eustace heads out to site to help deal with it. It would be nice if they could convince the animals to move, but that could cos other problems in other ecosystems, so culling may just be the best answer here. However he's bringing a cart with him as he's not going to let this go to waste.
1. On the Hunt. Although he prefers working by himself, if there is anyone who is not as experienced he'll offer some advice or walk with them to help with the hunt. Otherwise, anyone wandering might be surprised if an animal suddenly falls and Eustace drops down from his perch in the trees, the gunshot that took out the creature silent.
2. Loading the Cart. After each kill, Eustace will carry it back to the cart he brought with him, arranging them in a certain way. And towards the end he'll even make an offer.]
All of these can be taken back and used as food or materials for goods. If you want any for your own use or to sell, go ahead. I can also prepare it if you can't.
[3. Carcinuses. Since the Carcinuses are only out because of the excess food, Eustace is less inclined to try and actually kill them. He will if there's no other choice, so he's ready to shoot down the lightning, but he'll try to help drive them back. The methods employed are to either bait them back in the water by chucking his own kills into the lake or...try and actually communicate.
This is a little tougher, but he'll try. So some might see a...very small, strange looking silvery gray crab staring up at a giant Carcinus who is just staring right back at the puny thing with some curiosity.
...Yeah he has no idea if this will work, but an attempt is being made. Or he could be mistaken as a little crab being intimidated by a big giant scorpion tailed crab when it's really probably the opposite. The claws are up, could there be a show down!?? (No, no there isn't.)]

⊗ c: task - animal mage hunt
[Eustace is not only an animal magic user, but because of his ears he can be easily mistaken as a "victim" of this ritual. So he's getting a double whammy on this one. The two options are:
1. Getting an Earful. Eustace was already used to people staring at his ears or even outright asking about it, but the past few days have been aggravating. Too many people have come up to him and either expressed pity or asked personal, invasive questions that were borderline disturbing and some outright propositioning. Some even had the audacity to try and touch them or worse—look to see if he had a tail hidden. For the most part they have more harmless so he just ignored and walked away (or smack a hand that came too close), but there's a point where the limits of his own patience is reached and he'll snap. Some might see someone fleeing from him in fear...or perhaps you might be daring enough to inquire while he's in this foul mood?
2. Targeted. There will be a few key incidents, but over the next few days Eustace will first notice he's being followed before he finds himself having to defend against sudden attacks. He'll also be on the hunt for the assailants as they are clearly a threat. For the most part he can handle it, but there are still times he could slip. Anyone who sees Eustace fighting off his assailant is free to intervene and help, perhaps even stopping one before he even realizes one is tailing him. Alternatively, anyone who wants to target and fight him is free to do so as well! Just PM so can figure out how it turns out.]

[Thanks to the Animal Mage Hunt, he's going to end up suffering a severe injury later on that will limit his activity for the second half of the month, so most of the activity would be better set earlier. But if anyone wants to do a thread to check on him while he's recuperating, that's doable! If interested in anything else not included here, just hit me up on
laenavesse or discord and we can work something out!]

Interesting. I have to expend energy for both, but I've been needing less as a I become more accustomed to it.
But in that case I won't have to worry about you wearing out your magic. There's an area that has had a few animals sighted, but they've likely wandered further out. We can start there.
Name?
no subject
Oh. Right! Ruby Nakamura. And my crow friend is Rasu.
Just point me in the direction the animals were sighted and I'll head that way!
no subject
[Just a nod as he returns his own while filing away the names. He then turns back towards the fields, recalling what he had been told.]
Head that way towards the eastern fields. There should be some pigs and likely digging around for roots. I'll head just north of it to look for some goats.
no subject
Where do we meet back up?
[ Maybe she should have asked that ahead of time...? ]
no subject
There's a large oak tree at the northern corner of the eastern fields. It's roughly in-between the two areas so that should do.
How good are you with communicating with other birds? If you have trouble and can't send your familiar, or if I need to contact you, we can use them to send each other messages since I doubt you'll be able to use your phone while transformed.
no subject
That sounds easy enough to remember.
Birds are easy to communicate with. As long as they're not hungry. [ Instincts took over a little and she started to preen her wings as she talked. ] Hungry birds don't listen until you feed them.
no subject
I've experienced that as well. But we'll use them to communicate if needed.
Unless there's anything else, that should be enough to work with.
(If I had her fly earlier just pretend she went to sit back on the ground >.> I sleep reply)
If I can't convince any of the animals to come back with me then I'll seek you out.
[ At that point she started to take off, a little awkward at first, but soon enough she was up in the air properly, circling above him a few times to get a good feel for the wind. ]
lmao that's okay!
Hopefully Ruby is having better luck.]
no subject
At first. She finds the goats, but the problem with goats is that they are ornery, or, maybe it's just these goats. Either way, after a great deal of failed bargaining, she flies back towards where they were to meet, though she sent her own crow friend off to find him while she whirled around in circles over the meeting point, trying to keep an eye out for where he'd be. ]
no subject
Just as he's about to turn back to head towards the meeting point, he spots the crow familiar ahead. Quickening his pace, he soon reaches the meeting point and looks up to see her flying.]
Did you find anything?
no subject
Found them! Found them! But they don't want to move, not for a crow, and probably not for a little girl, either. They said the grass is sweeter where they are now. [ She let out a little caw. ] We may need to get them something sweeter. Bribe them. Bribes are efficient.
[ When she was in a human form she didn't seem to be quite so big on repetition... ]
no subject
...And that is definitely some bird speech. How curious.]
Something sweeter... Aside from the fruits, I have some sugar cubes.
no subject
Do they eat sugar? Is sugar something they eat? [ She hopped a bit, careful not to fwap him in the head with her wings. ] I don't know much about goats.
no subject
So the downside is if they only want to continue eating the sugar... In which case, finding a sweeter kind of hay or alfalfa may be better to convince them completely move. Otherwise I also have fruits as well to at least lure them away.
no subject
Let's start with the fruit. I'll lead the way!
[ One hop, two hop, then a proper jump and she was off into the sky, circling over head a moment to make sure he had time to see her, and then she started off in the direction she remembered them being in last. ]
no subject
no subject
Once she was properly human again she got back to her feet and then made her way towards Eustace. ]
They really like this grass. I hope they like the fruit and sugar more.
no subject
But the goats didn't seem to pay any heed, too engrossed in the grass to notice.]
If not, we may have to pose as other goats and try to trick them into it...but I'd rather not have to try something bothersome.
[Goats can be stubborn things and remembering what Ruby said earlier, it sounded like she can only turn into a crow which would mean he'd have to do it... ... ...Yeah, let's put all their bets on the fruits and sugar—]
Here. [He reaches into his satchel and tosses her a small pouch filled with various cut fruit and sugar treats.] If we can get at least one, maybe the rest will follow. Try talking with them as well.
[He then pulls out one for himself so that he can do the same.]
no subject
Right!
[ Soon enough she was getting closer to the goats. It didn't *look* like she was talking to them... Because she was instead forming a mental connection. She found a couple older looking goats and was soon sending them feelings of excitement, trying to get their attention as she pulled out a few pieces of fruit. As soon as she had their attention she'd send the feeling of 'sweet' and hold her hand out to them. Well, that was the plan anyway. ]
no subject
Of course they can't have it all the time, but... ... ...They definitely can't get the fruits and sweets out here...
After the goats take the bait from both of them, they seem to huddle around and converse among themselves. As they do, Eustace steps over to Ruby, arms crossed over his chest as he watches.]
...They're a lot more organized than I expected.
no subject
Do you think it could be because they're probably herd animals? Maybe they're used to following the leader and stuff like that.
[ All farm animals except various fowls were herd animals, right? Yeah, totally. It made perfect sense to her as a concept at least. ]
no subject
That would make the most sense. I suppose because they're goats I underestimated that similar herd and pack mentality that is shown in the wild. In which case...
[His gaze shifts over to the oldest looking one, the white hairs and long beard more prominent.]
I don't know if she's the "leader," but they treat her like an elder of the group, so her say must be more persuasive.
no subject
You know... I bet if we bribed her directly we could probably get them to follow us for longer periods of time between bribes. We only have so many things we can give as treats, after all.
no subject
[A firm nod.]
Let's do it. It looks like they're about to finish their meeting.
[And as if on cue, the goat circle parts and the elder looks over at them with a wary eye. She's an experienced one all right, and knows very well the pros and cons of living on the farm... Yet this is grass is so good! The best she's ever had! Will they be able to convince the old goat to return!?]
Take turns playing the goat for each other? :D?
works for me o/
