The Terrible, Horrible, Not-So-Good Morning | OPEN LOG
WHO: Emet-Selch + anyone
WHAT: A series of public and very gruesome murders, culminating in a flashy fight between Emet and a generic boss NPC that destroys much of a street
WHEN: From the start of August to mid-August
WHERE: Camelot City
WARNINGS: Violence, death, gore, mutilation of corpses etc. I will not write graphic descriptions of these for threads unless you opt-in to these details.
BASIC BYSTANDER INFO:
The bodies of the dead appear mysteriously during the night and are taken down by Camelot's law enforcement before next sunrise. Those who manage to see the display/s before they're taken down will note they are hung up as a deliberate, increasingly gruesome spectacle [think the 'art' in the TV show Hannibal] as the days go on. It is not a sight for the faint-hearted. If you smell the result, you will in all likelihood throw up the contents of your stomach.
The FIRST WEEK simply involves a single body hung up on a lamp post or some similar, convenient archway/overhang, with one or two more dead bodies below it. None of them are particularly special and all are eventually ID'd as lower tier thugs with shifty reputations.
On the SECOND WEEK, the bodies turn into more...artful displays. Prompt no.2 contains a very basic description of each one. DO NOT click on the links below if you are sensitive to descriptions of corpse mutilation and gore.
1st. "The Puppet"
2nd. "The Blood Eagle"
3rd. "Long-neck"
4th. "The Keyholder"
For those who have underworld/crime connections, you may hear whispers of a local smuggling ring being thrown into chaos. Members are disappearing without warning. Some attempt to go into hiding and turn up again during the first week of murders, dead. Others are simply never heard from after they disappear. Witnesses babble of some dark-cloaked figure who bursts in to places believed to be safe hideouts and slaughters anyone who attempts to escape. Those who DID escape swear up and down they had the luck of the fae on their side.
Emet-Selch finally locates the ringleader in the middle of August and launches into a very public, very destructive pursuit whilst fused with his familiar. Other characters can try and interfere with the chase but he will ultimately kill the ringleader with the help of reanimated corpses of their own subordinates, possessed by some of the spirits of their past victims. After about half an hour when the Soul Catcher he is using expires, he will collapse from his cumulative injuries and be taken into custody by Camelot law enforcement.

You heroes can never leave well enough alone--!!
[ Alchemy is versatile but it isn't fluid. He can't make stone fly or summon the elements. And death magic, of course, does nothing against the living. Funny how he has kept the ability to create but not to destroy.
Inwardly cursing this land and its fetters on his power, he creates a knife out of the stones from the ground and tries to hack at the blood binding him. ]

because Bakugou is of the opinion that he hardly ever is but whateverto absolutely feral. The blonde has seen it happen often - though ironically he's never really put it together that Katsuki himself is often a catalyst - and knows what's coming. The magic going out of control is expected. And now, as much as Katsuki wants to also capture Emet Selch and bring him in or whatever, the fact is? When Izuku is like this, he is more of a threat than an old man selectively exacting some kind of vengeance. ]
Izuku!
[ Now Bakugou isn't severely injured at all. So he grabs at the shitty nerd's freckled cheeks. Yeah, it probably doesn't look great with this gash that's causing Katsuki to bleed into his eye, but nothing is lethal. Everything will heal up with magic just fine. So there's no reason for this. That's why he forces Deku's attention back on him instead of the old man they are hunting. ]
GET A FUCKING GRIP! I'M FUCKING FINE! DON'T BE SOME SHITTY WEAKLING AND LOSE CONTROL!
[ Well if anything it might be an opportunity for the old fart to get away. ]

But the surge of emotion, the urge to protect someone and stop someone dangerous still suddenly sparks that magic in Izuku. There is a violent wash of magic that makes his shoulders seize and the blood magic that is threatening Emet-Selch starts to spark and sharpen like spiked chains.]
KACCHAN- Stop- I-!
[The magic seizes him hard. But the blood suddenly weakens with a pop. His eyes widening and he grabs back at Katsuki roughly.]
He nearly hurt you worse than you are?! He's going to get away-!

The Ascian doesn't wait for his bonds to tighten again. He scrambles forward, getting clumsily to his feet. Blood seeps into his shredded clothes (how will he hide this from Hythlodaeus?).
He doesn't spare the two boys a single glance until he's up and out of direct contact with the blood chains. Against his better judgement, he does look back. He hadn't wanted to kill them. Not really. It looks like the boy will live. ]

[ The thought of the asshole getting away - anyone getting away - really makes his blood boil too. Katsuki can't and won't deny that. However, he also knows that right now? Right now the old man isn't the priority. It's getting Deku to calm down. ]
Right now you're losing your shit! If you don't calm the fuck down you're going to do something stupid and reckless because that's what you always fucking do! I need you to keep your head in the game!
[ Though the look over his shoulder back towards Emet Selch... Oh just wait. Just wait ]
Tch! THIS AIN'T OVER OLD MAN!

[He's almost ready to throw a punch at Katsuki in frustration. The blood magic in his system is searing up angrily with his emotions. Searing the wounds on his skin open like angry red and crackling scars across a desert.]
Emet-Selch! He's-
[The magic is too much. As is the emotional toll of it searing in his blood. He grips Katsuki and pushes at him almost ready to start a fight with Katsuki in order to grab the man. He's hurt people. He's killed people. He's hurt Katsuki.]
Hgn-! Ahhhrghghhh!!
[Blood magic sears up heavily and he inhales in pain. Yes. The perfect time for Emet-Selch to slip away as Izuku shuts his eyes and tries to take in a shuddering breath through it all.]

He grits his teeth and forces his feet to move, trying to ignore Midoriya's screams as he flees the scene.
Mortals die every day, he tells himself. It is none of his business if another joins them tonight. ]
finally getting around to closing this
Right now the priority is Izuku anyway. Magic going wildly out of control is going to hurt him more than anything else. And if someone accidentally gets hurt? Well the shit nerd is going to hate himself for it - doesn't matter if the other is a bad person or not. Izuku in his right state of mind would be mortified and still try to reach out and save even the worst of the worst if he can.
That's what... That's what makes Izuku Katsuki's ideal hero, really.
Izuku's magic is definitely cutting up the blonde as well. Yet he doesn't move. Doesn't let go. If anything a barrier springs up around them to keep it contained. All Katsuki can really do is yell and smack sense into Deku. Get him to breathe and calm down. Which takes time... Time and energy that by the time the guy is all burned out? So is Katsuki. By the time all is said and done there won't be any chance of tracking Emet Selch down.
So all they can do is pick themselves up and go back. And hope that someone else can take care of the situation. ]
