A promotive food stall

[For the record, this is all Rin's fault. Archer is stuck on one of the busier streets of Camelot, making food at a food stall. The sign says Free Samples and there are cards with Fortune Panda restaurants logo on them.

Since his last add was horrible, this was apparently a good way to make it better and Archer feels like a fool for just standing there.]

Here, here. Come taste dishes served at our restaurant, the Fortune Panda. Free samples for all.

[He sounds like the most enthusiastic salesman.]

Fortune Panda

[Rin and Archer's restaurant looks like a classy Chinese restaurant with red, white and black colors and beautiful decorations. There are plenty of booths and tables to sit at and an overall pleasant atmosphere.

Archer is in charge of the kitchen that serves everything that isn't Chinese cuisine. Right now his main focus is other Asian dishes, but the menu also has "Challenge him to something else" option.

When it isn't terribly busy, Archer is also working at the cashier spot and generally just hanging around and receiving any feedback he might receive.]

Cooking lessons

[Archer has offered cooking lessons in the past and right now the cooking lessons have moved to the restaurants kitchen whenever there was a chance to do them. The only payment for the lessons was to help hi clean the place up after every lesson.

Archer is most likely setting up utensils as a student walks in.]

(When he hears that the cooking lessons have moved to the Fortune Panda after it was opened, Harry is able to note of it and decides to go to the classes he has done for a good while now. As tempting as him teleporting to the place does sound, he decides not to do it today: he doesn’t want to risk getting too tired like what happened during the Trow quest last month.

He opens the doors to the restaurant and sees Archer setting up the utensils and greeting him when he did saw him entering with Rose riding on his right shoulder and Hedwig swooping in to take a seat on an empty chair.)

Glad to see you again. I guess that we can start the lessons right now.

Good to see you again, too, Harry.

[Archer's phoenix familiar comes over to greet both Rose and Hedwig and to keep them company during the lesson.]

I have two options for you today. Some beef or fish. Which would you prefer?

I guess I’ll take on the fish first. Couldn’t hurt to try cooking it.

(Harry is thinking that fish can be tricky to cook, so he does pick it out without second doubts on his mind. Meanwhile, Rose and Hedwig greet Archer’s phoenix as they see each other.)

Are there any things that I need to know when cooking fish in general?

Well, the most important part is before cooking. You need to get all of the fishbones out. After that it's pretty much like cooking any other meat. You just need to know which color is the right time to stop at.

There are also several ways to cook it. I was thinking we could fry the fish this time.

Taking out all the fish bones before cooking the fish, got it. I might need to find a tool to get rid of them or I’ll have to use some kinetic magic to debone this fish.

(Now he is checking around for something to do the deboning fish process, though it does sound tempting to try to debone the fish with kinetic magic just out of curiosity.)

It might be worth to try that. You could find a new way to cook with magic.

[But he does bring out a few different sorts of cooking tools that Harry can experiment with. He believes in practical teaching.]

Okay then, I can try that out someday soon down the line. For now, I will just do things manually the old fashioned way.

(He then looks at the tools on the table to pick from in the boning process, before settling on a pair of bone pliers which he picks up and examines in full detail.)

Well, picking up a deboning tool wasn’t as hard as I thought it might have been; I might as well start finding the bones in this fish fillet now.

Good eye. Now just open the fillet up enough to see the bones. Some are a bit hard to see, as they're almsot transparent. Start with the big ones and hope that they're attached to the little ones still.

Okay, this shouldn’t be so hard to do.

(While Rose is looking around Fortune Panda’s interiors in awe and Hedwig is currently taking a nap, he opens up the fish fillet carefully so he can see the fish bones much closer.

As he has anticipated from Archer’s advice, he could see that some bones are so clear that it could be tricky to find, but he is no need to rush right now. He then goes to pluck out the bigger bones as gently as possible with bone pliers. Harry is noticing that some of the smaller bones are indeed attached to the bigger bones which is really good.)

[Archer observes him as he prepares some vegetables nearby, cutting them neatly into pieces. If he feels like he needs to interfere, he will, but so far so good.]

(He presses on as he takes out the bones from the fish fillet: checking if there are hidden smaller bones to look for, feeling the fillet to find the bones’ location. The young man is even double checking on the fillet if he has missed a bone.)

[ It was weird, wasn't it? He just came in one morning and Gareth was just... there. Washing dishes, busing tables. She stayed out of his way, didn't really drift into the front of the house except to clean, but if he tried to recall any hiring process or even discussion of it, he wouldn't remember anything.

She just showed up and started helping out. It was almost as if she'd missed working in the scullery. ]

[Archer appreciates the help and he had been thinking about offering Gareth a job anyway. Still, seeing her suddenly just work there had been confusing.]

We should really write you a contract at this point.

Ah, that's not really necessary, is it?

[ She says, both arms in the sink and sorting through the lunch rush dishes. ]

I'm here because a good knight supports the allies of their King!

[ Convenient excuse. Also "allies" was doing a lot of weird covering, there, but she also didn't pretend to understand what was going on between Archer and Artoria, anyways. ]

Allies... yeah.

[Allies is a good, neutral term. Friend was now a bit too little and lovers was awkwward! Not that anyone really knew about the three-way yet.]

I was just thinking you could get paid, since you're helping out so much. And maybe later you could work as a dessert chef.

I was never paid to do this work before... [ But she did understand it was something someone should be paid for. She stopped washing for a moment, letting her gaze drift towards the window over the washing area, towards the sky itself. ]

It's just... something that feels familiar, you know? Something I can ground myself in... I've needed that, lately.

I can understand that. Sometimes familiarity is taken for granted. But you do need money to live a nice life here... so why not earn it doing something you really enjoy?

[ Well, she did had a big move coming up to consider. Sure, she was splitting rent with Kadoc, but...

What's more, it was part of chivalry to graciously accept the generosity of others. ]

I suppose I can't argue against that.

I'll have Rin write you a contract. She's better at handling those than I am. She is a Master after all.

[Haha, isn't he funny.]

[ Gareth paused a moment more before going back to her work, dropping a few dishes in the rinse sink. ]

Well... I hope this will help get things back on track... for a lot of us.

[Archer nods, before being quiet for a while. Then...]

Any news of how Caster is doing?

[ She didn't want to question his sincerity in asking. It was unlikely his heart moved for Medea the way hers did. He was probably mostly wanting to know if he had to worry about prolonged conflict... ]

She's recovering... She's surrounded now by those who are willing to help her actually heal from all of this...

( Tohru stops in her tracks then, looking to the stall curiously before shaking her head, offering a gentle smile - albeit unsure. )

Oh, thank you very much! But, are you sure? I really don't mind paying you.

[There are finger foods and also small dishes of traditional japanese food.]

They're meant to be advertisement for our restaurant. If you really like them, having you as a customer later is more than enough of a payment.

( He's so polite...! And she can't help but think that he seems kind of cool, too... )

Really? Then... I promise that I'll stop by later, too.

( She'll try some of the food for herself. It's nice to see some familiar food here.

Her eyes light up then, smiling widely. )

It's delicious! Did you make it?

[Anyone else would argue about him being polite... that or Tohru would have to be disappointed later.]

Yes. I'm one of the two chefs at the restaurant. Rin, the other chef, handles Chinese cuisine. I have a changing menu.

( She's so impressed by that. She... can't say she's ever heard of a restaurant with a menu that changes often. )

Oh, wow! It sounds like you have plenty to choose from. I'd love to stop by sometime, then.

I haven't tasted foreign cuisine often, so this is a perfect chance to do it.

[Archer hands her a card with the details of the restaurant, as well as the address.]

It will definitely be a good opportunity. If there are specific dishes you would like to try, I also do custom dishes.

I've never heard of a restaurant that does custom dishes. I'm sure that there are countless things to try here - especially when there are so many people from different worlds here.

[ He wants to learn. He wants to figure out how to cook for himself and for his friends. That is why he's here to learn. He is freshly cleaned so free of mud and dirt when he arrives as he doesn't want to make a mess of someone's kitchen, too. He looks up at the man who had offered. ]

Oh. Good.

[ He sounds...sincere. ]

[Archer isn't the type to think someone is cute or anything. But something about Razor is very cute and he almost wants to give him a pat on the head. It's very strange to him.]

Razor, right? I have prepared some fish for us to cook.

Yes, Razor.

[ He looks pretty happy by the first because he loves fish and his friends also like it. So it's the best place to start because he knows it will have a lot of use for him later. ]

Good. Like fish. Friends, too.

[ He usually just props it on a fire until it cooks and while it's fine, it'll be nice to make something particularly tasty. ]

[He's passed the stall a few times running his deliveries, but he comes back once he's done to have a closer look.]

Free samples, huh? Whaddya serving?

[He's probably never heard of it at all, but all the more reason to ask.]

Right now there's sushi, rice balls, some takoyaki and some sukiyaki. So all Japanese dishes... but the menu I'm in charge of will change from time to time.

[If he needs to know the specifics of a dish, he will gladly tell. He just didn't start explaining all of them.]

Takoyaki? Sukiyaki?

[The sushi looks like fish with rice... and the rice balls are pretty direct. Still, there's 'Japanese' like Japan and all those other places Oda mentioned?]

Takoyaki is a ball of dough that has octopus inside. Sometimes there are other fillings as well. Usually there's also a sauce. Sukiyaki is steamed meat and vegetables.

Oh...

[Staring... staring... he picks up the takoyaki and eats it first. Mmm, chewy - maybe a little hot - but good otherwise! Sukiyaki will be next after he swallows.]
