Quest: Summer Fever!

[Ren is one of the helpers at medical center. He is a healer, after all, so it felt natural to be there. Besides, he could also help with entertaining when needed so he really felt like he was in his element.

Actually, he could heal and entertain at the same time. You see, he had just mastered a new way of healing a while back.

Singing. He sang a lovely song he wrote himself about healing and easing the pain, as well as giving strength and it worked like a charm and affected everyone in the room.

He couldn't do it to too many rooms as after healing a room full of patients he needed a good rest before he could do another.]

As I thought, it really takes a lot of magic out of me... but seeing their happy faces makes it all worth it.

[He tells someone with a very tired wink and proceeds to try and grab onto a wall for support.]

Cool down carnival

[Ren had always enjoyed the carnivals. It felt nice, being around in the general atmosphere. He hadn't gotten chances to go to many of them as a child so he was going to enjoy them as much as possible as an adult.

It's a rich kid wondering about various commoner foods. Like takoyaki! He's never had takoyaki before. He keeps looking at the menu for a vendor and wondering what sort to taste. A regular? A spicy one?

Later he can be seen with a candy apple, trying to figure out where to bite it.]

[ It's been... a month, since she's done anything sociable. After those trials, besides working here to get by, she found herself a bit adrift.

Perhaps she ought to have expected this place to take away the one she'd begun to grow close to- he had been with her, and then- gone again. She'd chalked it up to his eccentric behavior in general, and thought little of it initially. But after getting used to someone's presence on the regular, not having it all of a sudden was palpable-

And so, she was grateful to be out again, especially in such good company. Ren had always been kind to her since her arrival, and though they'd only spoken on occasion, he always had something nice to say and remained engaged with those around him.

It was why she was with him now, watching him curiously as he observes the candy apple. Her fox familiar from home followed behind her at a distance with the phoenix accompanying, and she herself is in a pretty outfit with shades of red- simple, but flattering. ]

Have you never had an apple coated in sweet syrup, Master Ren? It sounds delicious... though, back in my world, we'd have them sliced before dipping them so.

[ This way looks a bit messy! ]

Should we see if we can find some way to slice it?

[Ren's familiar is currently following further behind as well. She's shy in her fox form, so she likes to keep to herself. Occasionally she's hiding nearby, just the tips of he fairy wings showing.

Ren chuckles. He is dressed rather casually.]

I have not. I don't even know where to begin with this. Slices sound a lot more logical.

[This just looks like he would have his face full of syrup sooner than he can say apple sauce.]

That's a great idea. It would be a shame if your wonderful outfit got dirty.

[ Knowing her own fox familiar, hers is likely trying to keep the shyer one company. Kitsuno herself smiles up at Ren, feeling like he looks really stylish for a mortal- truly, these modern outfits have a touch of flair to them that their own robes usually don't. She has opted for a simple outfit that passes for here, having been observing the trends since she arrived-

Though she chuckles at his concern, shaking her head. ]

I'll be careful. But- look over there. They're slicing fruit up...

[ She gestures to a stall they're approaching, which is making fruit skewers! Very stylishly too! She brightens and motions Ren over to it, asking if they'll be so kind as to help slice up the candy apple for them too?

She might not have her charm magic anymore, but it does seem like they're more than fine with it, and quickly offer to assist even if they add it might take off some of the candy. But they have dips for it, if they'll buy!

Kitsuno beams, looking over at Ren. ]

It looks like these folks are the true heroes here, aren't they, Master Ren? Now you won't get your outfit dirty either!

[Ren follows her to the stall. The fruit skewers look rather delicious too and Ren makes a not to possibly returning there later to try some of them out.]

Indeed. They're doing us a huge favor... [He looks at the staff members.] I will buy some dips, as a thank you for helping us out. Any recommendations?

[Of course, he would very much like to hear Kitsuno's opionion on the flavors as well.]

[ Having never had sweets of this sort here, she's actually excited to see the different kinds. Being a fox, she enjoys them- and at his question, she smiles a bit sheepishly. ]

I've never had any sweets like these before... that white one looks nice. I've never had that, either. It might go with the sliced candy apple you have, Master Ren.

[ She points to the white chocolate dip, looking up at him with a smile. ]

Thank you for inviting me out... it has been a long time since I've traveled anywhere for fun here. How have you been?

[ Her gaze softens, but she maintains her composure. After all, he doesn't need her worries burdening him. ]

The white chocolate dip and the spicy chocolate one as well.

[For himself. He doesn't expect Kitsuno to try that one if she doesn't want to.

As the staff prepares both the apples and the dips, Ren turns his attention fully to Kitsuno with an equally soft smile.]

It was my pleasure. My life has been a bit of a rollercoaster, but it's starting to look better now. How about you?

[ Her expression softens for a moment, wondering if she should say something. It has been quiet all of a sudden, without the presence of who had suddenly entered her life here and begun to stay with her. But at least, there were others who were kind enough to spend time with her, much like Ren.

But- she shouldn't trouble him, she thinks... and at the same time, she wonders if she ought to talk about things... she just isn't used to not being able to deal with her problems all by herself, and it's odd to her. So, she sighs and gives him a smile. ]

I suppose... things have been better.

[ She looks at her treats once they come, and waits for Ren's before they begin to walk. ]

If... I may trouble you for advice? I believe I may have misstepped, and I'm not certain how to go about it. Some mortal ways are unknown to me, as much as I've been trying to learn...

[ It takes a lot for her to say as much, but. She should, she thinks. If only to keep the mistake from happening again. ]

[At her question Ren's expression changed into an even softer one with a layer of worry behind the smile.]

Of course, you make ask me anything. Tell me your worries.

[ She's quiet for a bit, before she looks down at her sweets, pondering how to word this. ]

There... there was a mortal here. One I took to. And he took to me as well. He felt familiar, in a way. We grew close, and I looked after him... he may not have been someone of my world, but he was enough to feel like one.

But- he disappeared, one day. Without a word, without notice. He was still around, but any attempt at contact resulted in nothing. Yet I would be aware of his presence with others... until it was gone.

I just wonder... what I must have done to offend him, when he was so loving before. It happened so suddenly, and without any discussion... do... mortals just abandon people they call lovers, without explaining why? If he did not wish to be, I would not have stopped him...

[ It does confuse her, but she seems less hurt and more baffled by how mortals aren't direct about their feelings. This one had seemed so, and yet. ]

( Izumi isn't a healer, but she is a soft touch and looking to master her light magic better. hearing that entertainment is needed as much as healing, she immediately sees her chance to put in some worthwhile work and practice. her magic is still... not great. she still hasn't got the hang of immediately conjuring the exact constructs she wants, but even accidental light magic is still pretty, and she can always pretend (stiff as her acting ever is) that she meant to bathe the room in a sunlight-through-stained-glass effect the whole time.

ultimately, though, even entertainers need a break, and Izumi is drinking water from a flask and trying to recuperate from her last show when the sounds of music entrance and drag her in the direction of the singer, the melody lifting the fatigue in a... familiar way?

wait... is this healing magic? it feels like when she opened that text spell from Taichi. not quite the same but close enough. pleasant and soothing and reaching deep into muscles overworked by a million behind-the-scenes odd theatre jobs, and—

oh! )

W-whoa...! ( don't fall over, sir! she darts towards the man, his words and exhaustion quickly putting the pieces together in her mind, but that's an issue for later. like, after he's sitting down somewhere. ) Do you want me to take you to the sitting area?

[Ren smiles at the girl coming to help him with a tired, but a very genuine smile.]

That might be a good idea. I wouldn't want to end up as a patient myself.

( well, at least he's smiling. that's a good sign. some rest and maybe a drink and food and he'll be okay again, right? )

This way. ( it's more a reflexive sentence to fill the silence than anything as she offers an arm for him to lean against as they walk down the corridor towards the sitting area at the end. )

[Ren doesn't lean too much, but does accept some support since he feels weak.]

Thank you. You're very kind for helping me.

Eh? It's nothing, really! ( this is what anyone would do, right? it's not putting her out, and she'd be a jerk if she didn't make sure he was okay. )

Was that you singing?

( it's mostly chatting to fill the silence, but she didn't actually get a look at the singer before she discovered this man in need of assistance, so maybe there's a chance it's someone else? )

[It's not always something you take for granted in people.]

Yes. I decided it would be more efficient to heal many at the same time... or at least help with their symptoms.

( she may or may not have a small tendency to, since she always sees the best in people... )

It really worked. I was starting to feel tired as well.

( but look at that! seats! let's just get you to one, new friend. )

Do you want a drink and a snack?

I'm glad.

[He had tried it on smaller amounts, but never this much so ... he's glad it worked. Ren sits down now that he has a chance.]

Maybe a drink, if it's not too much trouble.

Not at all.

( she's much more invigorated than he is right now, so it would be ridiculous to say he couldn't get a drink. )

Tea? Coffee? Water? Soda?

( they're all in pretty easy reach, judging by the vending machines she spied as she looked around. )

Hmm... I think just water is fine. Helps with dehydration the best. I can focus on getting energy back later.

[But first the more important parts.]

[ Ren better enjoy the fact that he's getting literally scooped up by JJ right now. He's been here for awhile, entertaining them. He's not quite good at any of his magic yet, so he finds what Ren's able to do with music pretty impressive. As he lifts his friend into his arms (one arm under his knees, other supporting his back) he says: ]

You know, I don't think I've ever gotten the privilege to hear you sing before.

[ And, off they go to find somewhere to sit down. ]

I think you need a break, though.

[This reminds him well off the times he was picked up when JJ was a dragon. It makes him chuckle a bit and he waves someone watching them.]

I think I sang you a happy birthday song, but it really doesn't count. I'll need to sing you something else too sometime, without magic.

[But he won't argue about needing a break.]

Oh - that you did! [ There's an easy laugh. ] It feels like it's been forever! Well, about a year, I think. But it's nothing compared to how good you are with a real you song.

[ It's fine, he'll just carry Ren somewhere that they can settle down and the guy can rest. He doesn't have healing magic or anything, but he's good at things like this. ]

Heh... that I can definitely agree with.

[He smiles at JJ with a fond smile.] Well, don't tell too many people, but I am planning another concert. For halloween.
