[Open] July Catch-All
🧙 WHO: Nanaki (Red XIII) and YOU!
⚔️️ WHAT: Open log! Quests, prompts, and all manner of things.
🕒 WHEN: Throughout July
🗺️ WHERE: All around Camelot and associated areas
⚠️ WARNINGS: None atm, will update as things go on!
Summer Fever
[Hearing about the latest summer fever that’s been going around is a little alarming, but fortunately it’s not deadly. But seeing as how many medical centres seem to need assistance from volunteers, Nanaki does eventually make his way over to see if he can help. While he is not a healer he does make use where he can, shepherding supplies to and fro and helping with deliveries. But there is one task that he ends up getting pulled into that seems perfect for someone like him.]
[There’s a section of one particular care center that is dedicated to children that have caught the summer fever. And what better care to provide a sick child than a big, furry animal to offer them comfort? He may not look like a cuddly puppy or a fluffy cat, but even despite the battle scars and intimidating aura, his presence seems to bring the children nothing short of absolute wonder and delight. Nanaki doesn’t do much, mostly just allows the kids to pet him, their tiny hands stroking at his fur, or agree to play games of catch with them. A few of the younger ones tug at his ears and mane, but he does his best to remain patient with him. A couple of the older, braver ones even ask to ride him, and he obliges, walking around the room carefully as pairs of giggling children squeal in delight on his back.]
[When playtime is over, he will lay down on the ground, or at the foot of one of the childrens’s beds if they ask him to. While they sleep he keeps watch, and perks up when someone enters the room.]
Try not to wake them. They just fell asleep.
Lavaft Behind
[All in all, the Geode Slime doesn’t look to be too dangerous when they finally approach the trapped monster; really, without the description they were given, it could easily be mistaken for another rock stuck in the magma pit. But he knows that the poor creature needs to be helped, and unfortunately knows there’s a very good chance they will be attacked once they freed it. Monsters and their defences…]
[His ears flick as he looks over the Geode Slime once more, before turning to his hunting companion.]
We should use what time we have to prepare for its attack. Unless you’re ready to attack it now.
The Farming Dead
[There is truly never a dull moment in Camelot, is there? But with the farms at risk of destruction at the hands of zombies, well, he can’t exactly let that remain untended to, can he?]
[Fighting undead monsters is not something unfamiliar to Nanaki, and his keen sense of sight makes him a good fit for anyone who’s fighting them, especially during the night. When the hordes come, he snarls, slashing at them with his claws or using elemental magic to blast them away. Those who he notices struggling he will rush over to and help thin the numbers, either by tackling the zombie bodily to the ground or freezing them in place with magic.]
Keep a sharp eye! We will fend them off together!
Clean Up Chaos
[Really, all Nanaki had been trying to do was order some food at one of the local restaurants. They even were familiar with him now, so ordering food wasn’t a big hassle anymore. But just as he’s approaching the restaurant, he lets out a rather undignified yelp as one of the magic brooms sweeps by and tries to “sweep” him up, bristles swatting at his legs and tail. He growls at the brooms, but then has to duck as a floating brush and dustpan also tries to swat at him, seemingly mistaking him for a piece of dust that needed to be cleaned. He snarls at the floating cleaning supplies, backing up as they seem to close in on him menacingly.]
Get back, unless you want to be torn to pieces!
[A little help?]
Wildcard
[Got an idea you’d like to try out? Feel free to make your own top-level, or plot something out with me at

Summer Fever
[While the animals delight the kids, so do some volunteers playing with them. Zidane's here for just that; and between playtime, he handles some deliveries throughout the building. It helps to be fast... and practicing how to teleport. Gosh, he can start doing that for short distances, but he still hadn't got floating down - one day!]
Need ya in another room, Red.
no subject
Alright. Though... I may need some help.
[He looks down to his side, where there is a small, sleeping child curled up against his flank.]
no subject
[Walking in, he heads over to the bed and... he'll refrain from taking a photo. Red might not like that, but he could give it to the hospital! Anyway, he takes a second to assess before slowly, caaarefully, gently removing the kid from Red's side and placing them back in bed.]
Sleep well, lil' buddy.
no subject
Thank you. Now, where did we need to go?
no subject
Two rooms down, there's two siblings - well, twins - and they're not taking their treatment easy. One starts up a fuss, the other follows, so they kinda need you to distract them.

summer fever
After lunch is served and the cafeteria and kitchen have been tidied, it's time for her to take the stuffed toys she picked up from the toy store to the kids and let them pick out the ones that they want. She's brought enough that each can have one, and thankfully there aren't too many, so she's able to carry them all in her arms in a single trip. She waltzes into one of the rooms, a unicorn threatening to fall out of the pile when she hears a voice that stops her dead in her tracks, and the unicorn does topple to the floor, bringing along with it a bear in a dress and another in a cowboy getup.
It sounds familiar, but...
She drops her voice to a whisper.]
Sorry. Didn't know they've already fallen asleep.
[Peering around the mountain shrouding her view, she doesn't see him at first. The floor isn't the first place she thinks to look, until she does—]
Wait a... Red!? [In her excitement, a long toy snake falls this time, landing near his nose.] You're the one they were talking about!?
Re: summer fever
If you mean talk of the "big red dog", then yes, that was me.
[It looks like playtime was successful, though! While some of the kids are in other rooms playing, the kids that are in this room are all tuckered out. One is even curled up asleep against Nanaki's flank.]
I didn't know you were here today as well.
no subject
Tifa might have heard that Red was here—in Avalon—from Aerith, but at a hospital would have been the last place she thought to look, though it does make sense. He seems just as taken with the children as they do him, and she can't help her smile when she catches the one that's dozed off against him, relaxed and looking content.]
Been helping down in the kitchens. Figured I'd put my skills to work for some good around here.
[She leans down to pick up the unicorn and bears, but that only makes more fall, and so she accepts defeat and leaves them there with a laugh.]
I guess "woman with black hair and potato salad" doesn't have the same ring to it as "big red dog". Word doesn't spread as fast. [She grins wider.] Looks like playtime was a hit?
no subject
I see. Well, that would explain the good smell I kept smelling in the halls.
[Speaking of which, had he had lunch yet..? Well, a question for later.]
Yes, playtime was a hit. Although, I could have done without so many pulls to my tail or ears. [He kept his claws to himself, but he still didn't like having his tail pulled!]
no subject
[Although if she were here, she probably would have scolded them on his behalf. She wouldn't like it if kids pulled on her ears for fun, so why should it be any different for him?
The sleeping kid at his side stirs, as do a couple in their beds, so Tifa lowers her voice to a near whisper to keep from waking them.]
Brought some stuffed toys I thought they might like. Maybe they can pull on these instead. [A glance around the room.] There anywhere I can put them?

Sounds good to me!
summer fever
But upon his entrance and seeing how floofy he is, some of the children run up to him in delight. Again, his behavior is odd for a "normal" dog as he isn't startled in the slightest and instead just stands there patiently...though there might have been the slightest of tail wags as they pet his ears. For now he continues to act like a real dog, not saying anything as he lightly nudges their faces. It's mostly he doesn't want to freak them out, but who knows, maybe they would get a kick out of a "talking dog."
Anyway, he'll bump them a bit before continuing to pull the wagon further in so they have a chance to take what they want from the wagon.]
no subject
[But when the 'husky' comes in, what Nanaki notices about it isn't so much the behaviours; though it is odd, it's not the first thing that strikes him as out of place. It's the husky's scent. It smells... strange. A bit like magic, the kind that wouldn't normally cling to a regular animal. It has Nanaki regarding Eustace as curiously as Eustace regards him.]
[But the children seem elated to play, and the husky did bring some toys, so Nanaki just keeps an eye on them while the kids rejoice. While they pet the husky and dig through the toys, Nanaki will turn to the husky.]
I guess I am not the only four-legged one on duty today.
no subject
...Should he bother hiding his identity still or keep up the act? Really he wouldn't care of it was just him and the lionwolfthing, but the kids... For now he just looks over at Nanaki and nods.]
no subject
They are a lively bunch... perhaps it will be easier to talk when they are sleeping or eating.
no subject
But the kids do eventually get their attention taken by the things he had brought, and once they start going off to play, Eustace makes his way over to Nanaki to sit next to him. Only then does he quietly speak to him.]
You're not an animal magic user are you.
[Nanaki felt more similar to the various bird folk he's met in that he's not quite like a normal animal and something more.]

Though it can take out a dustpan pretty easily.]
I don't know if they'll listen to you, Nanaki-san.
no subject
Then I suppose there's no other way to deal with them.
[A small part of him feels bad setting the broom alight, as it no doubt probably belongs to someone, but after it swatted his backside? Nope, it is being turned to ashes.]
What is going on??
no subject
I don't know, but I'm gonna guess magic. Something must have gone wrong.
no subject
[He has to pause his words to snarl and bat away a bucket. Begone!]
no subject
Maybe there's a way to find the source.

GO AWAY!! I was just finished my workout and I was going to take a bath in the springs anyway! [She manages to high kick the bucket away, but the scrub brush is relentless, and a bit harder to hit. So she just books it and...wouldn't you know, sees a familiar fuzzy friend also being assaulted by cleaning tools and products.]
Nanaki-san! Ooh, you--! [Alright, you know what? Ochako's just going to...grab one of the brooms by the handle as she rushes by, pivot on her opposite leg, and swing the broom like a bat at the chasing scrub brush. HIT A BRUSH WITH ANOTHER BRUSH...BROOM. THINGY.]
no subject
Over here--!
[He lets out a yelp as one of the brooms he'd been dealing with turns around and tries to sweep him up, effectively smacking his rump in the process. He snarls, channelling his magic and sending up a small burst of fire around him.]
no subject
She gets a hard smack on the back of her thigh which makes her yelp and hiss (ow, those bristles sting!), growling almost as bad as Nanaki does.]
What's with these stupid things?! [And taking a leaf out of her fuzzy friend's book, Ochako holds out her palm and creates a burst of flame, hoping to singe the end of those bristles and deter any further sweeping.]
no subject
[It seems that the fire does indeed seem to work in spooking the cleaning products a bit, which gives Nanaki a chance to stand at Ochako's side. He growls at the cleaning ingredients as they float a few feet before them.]
If we have a chance of fending off these things, we need to work together.

Right!! [She'll follow your lead, friend.]
