The lack of close familiarity goes both ways. Back in the Academy, Marianne always found Edelgard inscrutable and entirely unapproachable. She had always believed that someone so powerful and poised and perfect would want nothing with the likes of her. And then, of course, everything that happened in the Holy Tomb and the subsequent Battle of Garreg Mach permanently cut off any possibility that the two could become friends.
At least, that's how it had happened in Marianne's Fódlan. In Edelgard's, Marianne had joined her. It's an alternative world she's thought about a lot since she learned about it, and will surely come up in conversation eventually.
"I'm settling in all right, all things considered. There's a lot to get used to here." Even beside all the strange events, the sheer difference in culture and technology have taken a great deal of adjustment. "The hotel is very comfortable and reminds me of the Monastery, so I haven't looked for a new place to live just yet."
She reaches for the poured cup of tea with a soft "thank you," although she waits for Edelgard to pour her own before drinking any.
"And you? Have you being doing well since you arrived here?"
