Thrawn frowned. "I will admit that I do not entirely understand the Force, especially the Dark Side, but the Emperor should not have been so single-minded." While Thrawn knew the benefit of turning an enemy into an ally, the Emperor went about it the wrong way. He paused for a moment, then said, "I pledged myself to the Emperor, but in truth, I knew that he was old and it was only a matter of waiting for him to die. From there, I could sway the council to choose a successor who would help me weed out the corruption from the Empire." Thrawn felt that he could trust Luke with this information.
