"Fighting here is a pain in the ass. I can't use my arm like I used to, I have to rely on magic, and I can't heal like before either..." Maybe he'd gotten a lot more reliant on demonic power than he realised. He's not ashamed to admit it, but he does realise that when Credo taught him, they were both just ordinary human swordsmen, and he'd expect better of him than this, so he hastens to add: "I won't get sloppy next time."
Credo might not be his commander any more, but he doesn't want him to think he can't handle something as weak as the Fogueria when he was able to conquer a fire demon as strong as Berial back home.
