It's all in a Day's Work.

Samatoki does not care much for his job at the tavern but he has no other option open to him at the moment so he is making the best of it as much as he can. He does fairly well and has only punched one customer and for once even his boss had to agree the guy had it coming.

If nothing else, there are far fewer altercations when Samatoki is on shift, the Yakuza is known to be short-tempered. His shift is almost over, he's just about to be able to grab a beer, take a seat and drink it before he heads home. Then an idiot spills a drink on the guy next to him at the bar and the two decide to get into a shouting match.

He slams down the glass he is currently wiping.

"OI! SHUT UP OR I'LL KICK BOTH YOUR ASSES!!!"

The Libryrinth (Part 1):

Samatoki is not a man fond of secrets, people hiding shit is never a good thing and so, he decides if he is taking on any of this quest this is the one. Though he is still considering trying this Pure of Heart business, it sounds like a good payout but he's starting with the one that sounds like he might get some real action.

Because he has some aggression to work out, the thing is Samatoki is not exactly a "tactical person" and so he is lost in the maze.

Easy enough to find which seems like a bad idea as he lets out a couple of expletives from being lost. Maybe he'll get lucky and someone else will find him first, help him find his way out before he gets thrown in jail?

Wildcard: I am open to any of the quests with Samatoki or TDM prompts, if you'd like a starter for one let me know. Or if you want to fling someone at Samatoki feel free to fling a random hey, I see you in the street starter or let me know, and I can write it. Samatoki is not often going to be found trekking through things to do some kind of adventure quests. But, he owes Harry one, and frankly, a forced marriage just does not sit right with the Yakuza.

So when the young man asks him for help with the thief, Samatoki agrees, meeting him on the path to the thief, his familiar is nowhere in sight but Samatoki can feel him, meaning he will be able to call him if needed.

"Oi, kid, you gonna be alright if this shit goes south."

“Um... Yes, I’m sure that I can handle it,” Harry answers to Samatoki’s question, wondering what that really means.

Honestly, Harry has never known too much about selkies back home, but he did his research about them once he accepted the quest and he correctly guesses that selkies in Avalon are a lot like what Celtic and Scandinavian mythology & folklore speak of their counterparts back home. He too doesn’t like the whole forced marriage thing and he does feel sorry for the trapped selkie maiden he and Samatoki are about to rescue.

“From what I have read about selkies, some folks lock up their skins in chests and keep the keys to the chest with them at all times,” he informs the Yakuza before he proposes a plan of action, “Maybe we could distract the pelt thief, then I nick the key from him and escort the selkie back home, while you can deal with him in whichever way you want. Does it sound a good plan?”

Samatoki.
[ A familiar, stern tone. The door of the tavern shuts behind him with a soft jingle, and despite having only just arrived, Jyuto already looks tired. He's pulling on the edges of his leather gloves, passing a lazy look over the two customers yelling at each other. ]

And what good would that do you? [ Still to Samatoki, his mouth slants. His fingers flex and then ball into a loose fist as he contemplates a better way of derailing their argument. Maybe he ought to try out his new magic— ]

Sit down and drink your beer.
[ Implication that he intends to handle things in a better way. Upon saying so, Jyuto moves to take stance between Samatoki and the squabbling characters. ]

Seated at the far end of the bar counter, Noiz pauses in nursing his beer to glower the shouting men's way in annoyance. The counter vibrates from the glass slammed onto it, causing some people's drinks to slosh around inside their drinking vessels. He waits for MTC's frontman to finish his threat before speaking up.

"Those fools are too loud."

Noiz recognized Samatoki as soon as he went inside the tavern earlier, but didn't allow it to show on his face or in his voice beyond a noticeable pause. It was best to act natural as though the taller man were a stranger. Hifumi had already warned him most of the rap battlers from their world didn't remember that place.

"Tch, least someone around here ain't got cotton for brains."

Yes, that is a backward ass way of saying thanks for agreeing. Samatoki flashes the man a half-ass feral grin, the two rowdy guys decide to wipe up their mess and exit. After all, he has been known to light a literal fire under the ass of anyone who does not take off.

He sees that the man has a beer already in hand so he doesn't need one of those but Samatoki gets some of the nut things that everyone says tastes like popcorn and sits a bowl down by the guy.

"Ya ain't one of the locals, huh?"

Tch...

[He scoffs at the sound of his name, look at that, Jyuto's come to pick him up. He'll act like he doesn't give two shits, that the guy is here. But he does, somewhere under all that anger.]

It'd shut 'em up and I wouldn't feel like punchin' their faces in anymore. [Cause he would have already done it see.]

Oi, put that magic shit away, don't ya go climbin' in my head bastard.

[Samatoki hands over the bar, grabbing two beers and walking over to the table, he sits on down for Jyuto and slumps into his chair.]

Always ruinin' the fun.

"Tch, just remember kid, sometimes people don't give ya no choice in life and when that time comes, don't go hesitatin', get you and yours killed that way." He comes from a post-war era Japan, where microphones are weapons and he's second in command in the Yakuza, Samatoki's advice may not apply to most people's everyday life, but in a fight, it's a good thing to think about.

And he figures a man who would steal a pelt and force a creature into marriage is definitely going to put up a fight.

"Ya got an idea how to distract him, cause if not I vote I kick his ass, and while I am ya grab the key and take the chick home." Sorry Harry he is who he is, and he does not mean Selkie any disrespect, honestly.

Silently staring down the rowdy guys as they clean up and take their leave, Noiz only briefly flits his gaze Samatoki's way. Oh. The guy's bringing him finger snacks.

"Looks like you don't have cotton for brains either." Scar-covered fingers reach into the bowl of nuts. Several surface piercings are visible on the backs of his hands, two on one, one of the other.

"I doubt body mods are big in Camelot." Not that he's gone looking, but it seems like a worthwhile assumption to make.

Ho boy, Harry could understand that statement all too well: he did came from a war-ravaged wizarding Britain and he is just a teenager, a major participant of the Second Wizarding War and a child orphaned by war.

“Well, I could try to send things flying at his direction or make his cart rolling down on a very long steep road to keep him super busy,” he suggests his distraction plan to Samatoki, “Or I could possibly send a log flying at the guy’s head and he’ll be unconscious for as long as we need to get the selkie back home.”

Samatoki likes his idea better, he gets to punch someone in his idea. But he does have a young man along with him and so, he figures he better at least give the high road a shot. One thing goes wrong and he's punching the guy at the minimum!

"Huh, guess that ain't so bad but he so much as looks at us sideways or it doesn't work and I'll wipe the ground with his face, ya just take care of the Selkie chick."

Really someone should teach him not to call a Selkie a chick, it's just disrespectful.

He likes a guy who takes no shit and staring down the culprits while Samatoki himself does the same earns Noiz a point or two in the yakuza's book.

"Tch, course I don't." But he smirks all the same, Samatoki for thanks for the compliment as he picks up a glass and starts to wipe it down, going back to his original task. Samatoki's piercings are confined to his ears, but he takes a good look over the metal all the same.

"What's the point, all the metal in your hand, help ya in a fight or somethin'?" It's a gruff question but actually borderline conversation for Samatoki.

[ Samatoki's grumbling now, but not not raising his voice anymore. ]

So you admit that picking fights with random civilians is fun to you. [ He hasn't yet noticed the beer on the table. His mouth tugs into an amused smirk, though, somehow pleased that Samatoki realizes what he's thinking before he's even done anything. ]

It's not for you, anyway. Just enjoy your drink. [ Jyuto says, swatting his wrist as if to bat an insect away. In the following moments, he keeps an even gaze on the quarrel. He's still unused to utilizing his newfound abilities, but as he concentrates, there's a faint, unnatural glow to his eyes that's the only visible indication of his powers at use.

Both of the arguing bar-goers run out of steam, deciding that they're too tired to keep going. Their voices derail, and there are grumbled apologies before even an offer to buy a new drink.

Albeit an anticlimactic conclusion, Jyuto finally turns to Samatoki and his table. Upon seeing the beer, he smiles. ]

See? No harm done.
[ He lowers gracefully to sit across from him. ]

He crunches and swallows those nuts, raising an odd eyebrow at the strange question. Now that he's stopped wearing the bandages on his hands and forearms, he's begun to get more people noticing and questioning those piercings.

"No, they're usually covered up. The point is that I like them and they haven't rejected yet." Surface piercings are more prone to rejection, in his experience.

To be fair, Harry is actually willing to let Samatoki punch the pelt thief in the face for real, the guy they’re dealing sounds like an unlikeable jerk, but there are other options that they can use to get the Selkie lady back home at sea. Let’s just hope that his distraction plan would work as intended or he can simply let Samatoki punch the guy anyway while he assists the selkie back to the sea. Either way works for him.

“I’m actually fine with that as well if my plan doesn’t work. I can see his cart and some logs out on the front yard now and we can hide beneath some bushes in here, so let’s get to it and make the guy pay for forcing the poor selkie maiden to an unwanted marriage,” he chimes in as they approach the cottage and begin to start their mission.

Rose squeaks as she gets out of her master’s jacket pocket onto his hands and informs him through her squeaking and body language that she could try to help by running around the man’s feet and stealing the key as backup. Harry is a little worried for his familiar’s safety with this idea of hers, but he’s going to trust her judgement on that: she’s small enough to get around the man’s feet and taking the key from him too.

Get a drink, Hifumi said. It would help you feel better about everything and relax, Hifumi said. Unfortunately the bar he'd picked had one Samatoki Aohitsugi working at it, and a very touchy clientele besides. It had only taken one shaky hand for him to accidentally spill his drink all over some rude asshole.

It was a less of shouting match and more of a one sided shouting onslaught as the man grabbed Doppo by his collar and told him just how worthless he was, Doppo apologizing and agreeing the whole way. This paused when Samatoki yelled at them, both looking over at the yakuza man.

"Huh? This fucker spilled his drink all over me! I deserve some recompense!!"

[ Honestly, Samatoki is lucky the librarian hadn't already found him by following that string of curses, which is how Karma managed to find his way over to him. He pokes his head out from behind one of the shelves, not bothering to step out all the way because this is very much the wrong way and he'd just have to double back.

Once he has Samatoki's attention, he raises a finger to his lips. Then he points at Samatoki. And draws a line across his throat.

Basically, "Shut the hell up or I'll kill you and make you shut up."

He cants his head to the side for Samatoki to follow. ]

[Oh he definitely is, the Yakuza is not one to keep his mouth shut. And he is most certainly not one to take a threat like that sitting down or quietly for that matter. Except, right at that moment he hears the Librarian.

Red eyes glare imminent death at Karma for the action as the yakuza swipes a finger across his lips and storms after the young man.

When he gets near enough, he's going to reach out and try to grab him by his shirt for a real talking to. Rather this succeeds or not he growls, glaring harder.]

Ya think ya can take me lil' shit, I'll kick your ass.

[ He totally didn't get the message to shut the hell up, huh? Following Karma was promising, but then Samatoki ruined it by opening his mouth again, Karma letting his shirt get grabbed and making no move to pull away or back down. ]

You sure can try. But can it wait until we're outta here?

[ His voice is low, less a growl despite his irritation and more a whisper. ]

If you really insist, I'm kindly going to ask you to die quietly right here so we don't get kicked out.

[Yeah yea, Jyuto should know that will only last so long.]

I admit I like kickin' the shit out of idiots. [If that computes to picking fights with random civilians well, then color him guilty.]

Better not be, I'll fuckin' choke ya right here. [He settles in his seat though and begins to drink his beer. He knows him reading Jyuto that way pleased the man, not like he cares, except, yeah he does.

Not saying it out loud, but it's actually kinda badass the way Jyuto's eyes change subtlety when he uses his magic. Not that Samatoki noticed or anything.]

Y'know, one day your gonna hypnotize someone and they're gonna try to kill ya, then I'm gonna have to kill them, and who the hell's gonna get me outta jail, huh?

[That is such a backend way of saying he'd protect someone, Samatoki really should not be allowed to talk sometimes. Either way, he puts a smoke between his lips, the end igniting on its own, one thing he likes magic for.]

It's really an odd question coming from a man with so many piercings in his own ear, but then again, Samatoki has never been one to be the most polite. What he is appreciating is a customer who doesn't seem like a complete waste of oxygen and space.

"I mean, they don't look bad, but it'd be better if ya could knock a fucker's nose in with 'em. Rejected? The hell's that supposed to mean?" He's actually curious, for as asshole-ish as he sounds it about it.

Samatoki votes for any plan that lets him punch someone. Seriously, this place is so tame, no thugs to shakedown out of his territory, no Yakuza to run, to rap battles, like what the hell is he supposed to do with himself? Obviously, go on random quests with the kids he seems to keep collecting around this place.

"Good means ya got some balls kid." That's a compliment from Samatoki.

At least, he seems to collect polite ones with half a brain on their shoulders.

Samatoki cocks his head at the familiar, not sure at all what she is saying as he puts a cigarette between his lips, it lights automatically, his control of his fire element is getting good, the rest are a little shaky.

"What's she goin' on about?"

"I have rough knuckles for that." He gives a dismissive wave at the suggestion.

"It's exactly what it sounds like. Your body decides it doesn't like the foreign object you lodged in it, so it pushes it to the surface." He takes a sip of beer to wash down the nuts. "Had to redo one of my brow piercings cos of that." He'd done it too shallow. It kinda just rejected after a few weeks entirely. Noiz redid it and did another one a little afterward, ensuring he did them deeper.

A drink probably would have helped, deciding to get a drink when Samatoki is working at this particular tavern was the bad decision. He hadn't seen Doppo yet, dealing with a plethora of other customers and activities, before he yelled at the drunken idiots.

"Huh? Ya think we're gonna pay ya cause a drunk idiot in a fuckin' bar knocked his drink on ya, who the hell are ya, the fuckin' King?"

And he storms over, rage simmering over every inch of him, oh he recognizes Doppo now, but he's more intent on slugging the fucker who dared to yell back at him. Not like he's trying to save Doppo or anything cause he belongs to Jakurai, that would be a nice person thing to do.

But he does, land one solid punch to the yelling offender's mouth, enough to knock at least a few teeth loose and have him slamming both hands over his mouth in pain.

"How's that for recom what the fuck ever you said!" He snaps his eyes to Doppo.

"Ya need to stop shakin' like a scared cat! It's annoyin'!"

“Rose is also suggesting that she can also help by running around the man’s feet and assisting in taking the key from him,” Harry explains Rose’s suggestion to the Yakuza, “She is pretty tiny after all, so maybe she can distract him while I attempt to take the key from him and send his cart rolling down.”

Yeah, it does sound like a dangerous idea for a familiar to volunteering themselves to distracting the thief, but Rose might be onto something as he is on the lookout for the pelt thief. Hopefully Samatoki doesn’t mind the little Pygmy Puff’s ideas.

Samatoki looks over at the tiny familiar, it does sound like a good idea. Thing is, the Yakuza considers how Nemu or Lily might respond if he were to let a cute little fluff like that get hurt. His own familiar is useless other than for a magic boost, a pile of skulls, cool as it may look flashing that Yokohama blue, the real fighting has to come from the man himself. Mekurabe just stares into souls.

"Alright, but it looks like he's gonna hurt her we pull the plug, I ain't bein' responsible if something happens." He looks pointedly at Rose, cigarette smoke obscuring his face only slightly.

"Ya hear that ya puffball, shit looks bad just poof the fuck outta there, alright."
