It’s Gonna be May

I – The Daily Grind
A) Since arriving Floyd has settled in pretty well, he’s always able to take most things in his stride and just go along with it. Or against it if he thinks that is more fun. Though of course considering who was already here, Floyd is instantly employed at Gold Silence for Azul. He’ll work a range of jobs across the restaurant, really put wherever he’s the least disruptive for his shift, or the most inspired. There’s a good chance any of those coming in to dine will find him either on the front door as a host to seat them, or maybe as their waiter to take their orders. If you’re real lucky, or unlucky, you may get him as one of the cooks for the day, either having perfectly made dishes, or a burnt mess show up. Unhappy with the meal? Sure, go and yell at the chef, no doubt he will take the feedback well…

B) But Floyd also realizes he needs to get better informed. Lacking his normal magic here was a pain, and while he doesn’t like to study he knows he has to. He needs to catch up, and fast. The thing about Floyd despite how he may come across to others, he isn’t stupid, and his memory is almost photographic, able to remember anything and everything he reads. But only if he feels like it. And a lot of the time he doesn’t. It’s also why he’s spending his study time in the city library rather than wasting money at book stores. Why buy them if he can read them once and know what’s in them? He can be found reading there. Or getting bored and making a house out of the books as if they were cards. Or really bored and maybe passing by and stealing the book another is reading, just for the laughs.

C) A place that has quickly becomes one of Floyd’s favorite spots was the Off Limits Parkour Gym. He’s taken up an interest in parkour over the years, and always had too much energy that he needed to burn off with physical activity, so the Gym was a great find for him. He’ll start off warming up just under his own physical abilities, which are pretty good by themselves, before using his wand to help test out some of that new Kinetic magic he’s been learning and really letting loose.

II – Sea Shanties
This sounded perfect for Floyd! Until he got told off by Azul, and subtly also by Jade, for showing off his merform too often on the last quest. Ehhh, they wanted to be quieter on it, that was no fun, but finnneee, for now Floyd will play along. He makes no real promises if he has to use it, but he would try to scale back on it. For that reason he’s joining others in a boat to help out with this quest. He really wants to get in the water though, but hey, let’s see how this goes with him keeping his legs instead of trading for his tail. It should still be fun.

“Why there so many water quests?” This is saying as someone who really only has taken part in two quests since getting here, so maybe it wasn’t a great range of experience to compare quite yet, but it seems that way to Floyd. This may be addressed to who he’s with, or more just him whining out loud as he flops in his spot in the boat.

III – TikTok Challenge
It seemed like a silly little challenge, but Floyd did like that risk to it with the curse, as well as maybe a reward. The curse sounds more fun, he wonders what it would be, not that he’s trying to lose on purpose, but he’s curious.

Whatever may happen, he’s taken some time off work and study to take part in this. And others may be along for the ride, whether they want to or not, Floyd grabbing the wrist of someone passing by, “Hey, let’s go!” They may look like they are also doing the same contest, or not, he doesn’t care, he just wants the company.

Minako definitely wasn't doing the same contest.

Sure, it might have been within her ballpark. That much is fair. But on the other hand, it's not like Floyd would have known that right after only their initial conversation - which means that Minako is rather thrown off by the fact that she's suddenly being tugged over by someone, letting out a squeak of surprise before she realises just who it is that's talking to her here.

.. oh god, this guy again?!

"What are you doing?!"

Hi Butterfly fishy~! It was nice it's a face Floyd knew that he grabbed, but it wouldn't had mattered anyways, he still would had dragged the person along.

But since she asked, "Look! I'm doing that scavenger hunt thingy." Floyd's phone being shoved in Minako's face so she could see the app for the event, and even a few ticked off already. "I already got four! I need to find the rest. Or not, I'm curious to see what that curse might be too."

Then to the point of Floyd still holding onto her wrist. "Come and help me! It'll be fun!"

"What-- don't just say that so casually! Hey, who'd want to get cursed?!"

Look at that, she's immediately complaining at him again. But at least this time it makes some sense - in fact, it's actually rather kind of her to actually care whether or not Floyd gets cursed, despite the fact that he is.. well, let's call it a special guy.

But even he doesn't seem bad enough to deserve whatever weird curse this place might be able to think up in Minako's opinion.

"If you're-- or we, I guess! If we're going to do this, we have to do it seriously! I won't accept defeat!"

Especially not if it comes with a curse. Miss her with that!

She's still totally allowing herself to get dragged along here though.

"I wanna know what the curse might be," Floyd explains as if it's obvious. "I mean, I don't want if it's a super bad curse, but some of the little ones can be fun. Changing how you souunndd~, changing how you looook~, making your floaatt~, that kinda thing! I won't know unless I fail on purpose." Or he got bored mid way through and gave up, that's also a possibility.

However she raises a good point, Floyd looking back to her as he dragged her along. "Eeehh~? I mean, you're right, I would rather win just for the sake of winning. But I donno even if the prize for winning is any good. I just wanted to do this because it sounded fun, you know?"

...

This settles it. Jade's brother is a total weirdo.

Though Minako is at least nice enough to not voice that thought out loud in the moment, even though Floyd hasn't exactly been the nicest to her. But he seems to be a little more tame in that department today compared to last time around, and Minako isn't going to be accused of being the one to strike first here, even if it's just verbally.

"Well, I don't want to find out what the curse is!"

Especially when she's had to deal with enough crappy stuff in this place. Sheesh, would Floyd still be saying the same if he was used to this place's way of doing things, she wonders...

"So we're going to win now!" Even if he might not care about some prize, at least-- "Isn't winning fun? It's so much more fun than losing!"

Especially when you're a sore loser.

Like Minako "actually a toddler" Aino.

Both brother were total weirdos, Jade just hides it better. And Floyd likes to help his brother keep it hidden, because it's all that more entertaining when people find out what Jade really is like.

Though right now Floyd has to let out a 'heeee' of a laugh. "You really like to win, huh, Butterfly fishy?" That's good information to put away for later, that Minako had that drive. Before Floyd switches up that questioning to instant agreement. "Yup! Let's try then!" Happy to go along with this. "What do you want to try for first? You know this place better than I do."

"Well, it's no fun if I tell you everything.."

.. says the girl who wanted to win. Which means that she will definitely tell him everything in the end if that's what it'll take for them to win this, but she at least wants him to pull some weight here too! It's a group effort, after all!

But maybe she can at least give him something to work with at first. Just a little thing to start with!

"How about I pick something, and then you try to find the place we can find it? Like.. hm.." She glances at the list of items. "How about that cat ears headband? That one shouldn't be so hard!"

Hey, he's already gotten four, how is that not pulling his weight?

Then again, this may all backfire on Minako, as all this does is feed into Floyd's spontaneous nature and showed him she was allowing him to use it at full force. It's why the 'lets just do what he wants until he tires himself out' never works on Floyd, because he will keep going, constantly finding new things to do. "Okay! That sounds fun! Let's go!"

This however also means Floyd will keep his hold on her wrist and start racing away with her in tow. Hopefully Minako can keep up with his long pace...

Thankfully Minako is a born athlete - or at the very least someone who has absolutely mastered the art of running to school and hopping over every fence in sight so you're always exactly in time despite sleeping in to a T.

It means that she can at least keep up with his pace while she's being dragged along. She's still letting him take the lead though, just so he can show her his skills in finding his way around this place so far.

"So.. where do you think you're going to find that one?"

Or is he just running around randomly, rather than to a specific destination? Minako wouldn't be too surprised if that were the case, honestly..

Oh good! As fun as it was to drag someone along and having them stumble, it was far too slow, so it's nice to have someone who can keep up with him.

Also, it's a bit of both; random and a specific location. "Hmmm, I mean, I'm thinking a clothing store, or costume one. Depends if there is cutesy clothing accessory stores around. I'm still getting to used what is here." It's a big city after all, and Floyd is trying his best to get both some currency via working and to practice his new magic. He's got a lot to catch up with to be useful with magic again.

"I see, I see!"

Usually she'd give him a hint, but.. well, it's still early on. And this is exactly the sort of thing that's supposed to help him learn more about the city and the establishments it provides - so she won't say anything just yet, instead just nodding along with what he's saying.

"I think that's worth a shot!" She'll at least confirm that much. She'll just let him know that he's on the right track - that ought to be enough for now, unless he truly can't find anything he's looking for. "After all, in any place with cute girls, there has to be a place with appropriate clothes and accessoires for them..!"

"Yeaaah, but we need to find a cute girl then." Floyd says it in a way that is totally serious, no hint of joking or teasing at all in this tone. So it makes it unclear if he is teasing her, or oblivious to how his comment would come across. Or just didn't care how his comment could come across.

Wow, Floyd.

Floyd. Floyd! Dude!

It's indeed hard to tell how he means that remark with the way he says it, but with Minako being Minako - and considering their previous conversation - she is definitely taking offence to it. He had called her whiny so plainly last time around too, and now he's acting like she's not even cute?!

Seriously, how is this guy like this?!

"Are you just saying that to work me up?!"

Because.. you know. It's working. Minako's eyebrow is totally twitching over here, like she's only barely containing an entire waterfall of rage from within her...

"Or are you just blind?"

This does cause Floyd to slow his pace, a pause as he blinked back to her. "Whaaat?" Fully acting like he has no clue what she meant but this. What's going on?

...ok, maybe he did push that teasing too much with how she reacted. The thing was... that just makes him want to do it even more. But there needs to be a balance between going too far and having her just leave, and pulling back enough for her to stick around so he can keep doing it. Then again, Floyd never really cared about making someone so angry they either stomped off or threw a punch at him. In fact he enjoyed that. It was exciting and fun. And he hasn't had a chance for a good fight here yet...

But naahhh, better do some repair here to not fully ruin this. She would be more fun to drag along and poke at now and then than just blow it all over one interaction. "You said we needed to find cute girl locations, not beautiful girl locations." Would it work? Ehh, actually he doesn't care. If it doesn't he will just carry on by himself. And annoy her again later. Just to see if she was still feeling sore over this all.

Minako pauses.

And then - almost instantly - her anger seems to change into something else. Something that seems to make her eyes.. sparkle.

"B-Beautiful?"

Granted, she's not entirely falling for it. She figures that Floyd, with the way he's seemed so far, probably doesn't honestly mean that. But even if he doesn't mean it, Minako will still accept it over him just straight up insulting her - hence why she's starting on the dramatic reaction all the same.

"Well, I do guess that's the category I fall in..!" .. thanks for the sudden mood change, Minako. She's even smiling now, like she was never angry in the first place. "There's actually a store that sells accessories in the third street from the left!"

See, that even earned him a hint.

Sometimes it was fun to go along even if you knew you were being played. Even if both sides knew it wasn't totally real. The fun of the moment could outweigh that it was partly hollow. "Uh huhhh." He drew out to help reinforce that, and hey, it's not like she's ugly or anything, so it's not a lie, just Floyd doesn't think much about handing out compliments. Or insults. He just says what he wants to.

"Oh yeah? We should check it out! I mean, I donno if there a timer on this, but we can see if they got fun stuff in there other than the cat thingy." Hey! Why not get some shopping done while here, right?

"Are you saying you'd want to try some on?"

Not the cat ears, necessarily.. though if they go there and linger, she will absolutely find a moment to put them on Floyd's head all the same. Minako just has to see what that looks like, it's so important!

But at least she's still first asking him for now as they're still heading in that direction.

"That could be fun! I wouldn't mind staying there for a bit at all." Especially since - knowing how these quests work - they probably can take their time with it and still end up doing fine in the end. Minako doesn't seem too particularly worried, anyway, judging by the way she's saying this.

"Maybe! Depends what there is." But if he does get cat ears he will have to get a matching pair for Jade too. Or maybe an opposite pair, the same but flipped, like their hair. OH! And a pair for Azul, and force him to wear it and take a picture. That would be so funny to have the three of them with cat ears on. "Sometimes I like having stuff to clip my hair back when I'm studying or playing basketball so it doesn't get in my eyes, you know? Plus I donno what the trends are here yet!" And that's horrible! How is he supposed to stay up to date on those when he has no clue what is going on with fashion here?!

"You bought from this place before? It got good stuff in it, or just the cheapy stuff that breaks easy?"

.. huh. Maybe Floyd does have at least.. some good sides to him? Minako can always appreciate a guy who knows about the important stuff, like clipping back your hair so it doesn't get in the way, rather than just getting some boring shaved haircut so it's never anywhere close to your eyes in the first place..

It still doesn't quite outweigh the insults, but on the other hand, she does notice he seems to be kind of trying to moderate those now, so.. who knows.

Maybe there's still hope.

Which is why Minako is actually forthcoming with her information here. Maybe she can even help him pick out something that'd look cute on him.. That would be enough repayment for her for this information, really. She's a simple girl with simple desires.

"There's good stuff there! You can easily avoid the cheap stuff, since they usually put it out front. But everything inside the store is pretty good, I buy stuff from there all the time!" Because Minako obviously loves cute accessories. She is 100% that kind of girl. "They've got all kinds of nice hairclips there, if you're looking for one."

"I hope they have something with eels on it." Because Floyd is all for a theme, especially if he buys one for Jade as well, "Or ocean themed if no eels." He happily heading to the shop with her, looking through the front window to see what was inside before entering the shop. "Oh, I want some sunglasses too, I think." It seems this has turned into a shopping trip rather than the original scavenger hunt he had started with.

Hey, Minako isn't complaining.

She's pretty sure they'll have time later to grab the stuff they needed for the hunt anyway - especially since she knows where to find pretty much all of it. If they end up spending a little bit too much time here, she can just help him cheat a little that way, she supposes..

Especially since she now also wants to look around here for something cute. And she's curious, since of all things--

"Why eels?"

Look, Floyd is an oddball. Him liking an oddball animal isn't too strange. But then there's still the question of why eels specifically, rather than another odd animal - like a platypus or something.

Floyd's a little surprised by that question, looking back to her from whatever has caught his attention in the shop right now. What you mean, why eels? Hasn't Jade-

Oh...

Heh.

"Eeehhhh~? He hasn't told you, has he?" It ending in a chuckle at her expense.

The answer to that question was probably already pretty obvious to Floyd just going by the fact that Minako felt like she had to ask in the first place, but her reaction right now only seems to confirm it. The girl just stares at him with the absolute most blank look on her face, like she truly has no idea what Floyd is even talking about.

What is Minako supposed to know about eels here..? She's got no idea.

"Hasn't.. told me what?"

Knowing Floyd - or the impression she's got of the other so far - she doesn't think he'll just tell her, but you know what they say. You still have to shoot your shot, or you'll miss by default. So here is her attempt at asking, at the very least, because she sure does want to know what's up with eels now!

Ooohhhh, he hasn't, heh. Guess Jade wanted to keep it quiet, that seemed like a thing he would do, be all sneaky so it's a surprise at the right time. And Floyd won't ruin his fun. "Nahhh, now I can't tell you, it's a surprise. It wouldn't be fun to ruin surprises, right?" Right, Minako? You didn't wanna ruin something like that, right?

"Forget I said it," Oh, sunglasses, Floyd picking up a pair to look them over before putting them on, which happened to just be heart-shaped ones with pink lenses and gold colored rims. "What ya think?" Did they clash too much with his hair coloring? And yes, he's also totally just moving on without explaining anything.

...

Yeah, that's about as expected, Minako thinks. She didn't even think it was going to be some huge secret, since.. well, what kind of huge secret would have to do with eels of all things? It's so much more likely that Floyd is just making a big fuss over some thing little thing, just because he might think it's fun to get Minako to keep thinking about it.

But that's also the complete reason why the only reaction he's getting from here here, when he shows off those sunglasses, is a big fat unimpressed facial expression.

"I think they make you look like someone who's hiding something from me."

Two people can play at this game!!!

"Yeesss~, but am I a cute someone who's hiding something from you?" Are you sure about that, Minako? Floyd reaching out for a second pair with purple lenses and moving to put them on her. "Here, you try some too." Whether she allows him or not, whatever the outcome will be, Floyd will continue to move further into the store, not taking off the pair he's put on, but wanting to see what else there was to look at.

"I wonder if Squishy would like something. It would have to be a ring, he doesn't have hair to put stuff in."

Minako does allow him to put the glasses on her. While he's moving on, she does check in a mirror for a moment to see how it looks - maybe even snapping a picture with her device - before putting them back. Just in case the person working in the store thinks they're about to walk out with all that stuff..

But once she starts wandering after where Floyd has disappeared further into the store, Minako still seems a little passive compared to a few moments ago. Apparently she's only willing to indulge him with her cheery attitude when he's at least making an effort to meet her halfway, and now he's no longer doing that, he's getting a way less interesting Minako.

Which means she's just opting to lean against a nearby wall, taking out her phone like she's just going to stand here and casually text some people, rather than pay full attention to what Floyd is doing.

"Hmm, guess you'll have to look around."

The Minako energy switch has been fully turned off, apparently...

Floyd seems lost to the store for awhile...

Before circling back around to her, having collected a few more things he's put on or stuck in his hair, a finger poking at her cheek. "Aww Butterflyfishy, don't be so mad. I can't go telling secrets about Jade, he's my brother, I gotta stick with him, ya know?" Hmmm, lets see... "What if I tell ya another secret only I know, would that make it up to you?" Because she was fun to mess with, and she claims to know fashion! It's nice to have a shopping buddy.

Thankfully she doesn't seem to mind him just looking around by himself at all. Despite Minako choosing to act less enthusiastic in the moment, it's not like she has a shortage of things to look at on her phone, so she's perfectly capable of just keeping this up. Standing there, glancing down at her device, like there's nothing more interesting than that in the world right now.

Even when he speaks up again and pokes her cheek, she's still looking at her phone. Though it - at least - means that she isn't batting his hand away either when he pokes her, instead just passively accepting it.

"I guess it might," she replies.

.. it definitely would, since it'd at least feel like a fair compromise, but part of this is playing hard to get!! She has to keep it up until the compromise has firmly been established, or he might try to joink it away again at the last moment!

Minako is clearly a negotiation expert.

Yeah, it will, won't it? But, another step to really make it more tempting, "But ya gotta promise not to tell Jade, ok? He donno this." Something so secretive that Floyd couldn't even share it with his twin. Now that was good payment, right Minako?

..!!

Look at that. The uncaring act is gone in just a moment. If Minako were a cat or a dog, her ears would be perking up right now in interest - but despite the fact that she doesn't exactly have animal features to do that sort of thing with, the rest of Minako's body language seems to give off the same vibe anyway. Like her full attention is suddenly turning towards Floyd in a single instance.

He is dangling a particularly juicy carrot right in front of her, after all.

"Of course!"

She does mean that. Minako isn't one to break promises.

"Whatever you say will stay right between the two of us..!"

Seeeee~? That's what he was hoping for.

"Okay, so," During this Floyd has put a flower clip into her hair before going back to looking at other stuff as he speaks. "Jade likes to go out hiking and stuff, and he always brings back plants he finds, which is fiiineee~," Weird... but fine. "But he also brings back mushrooms, and I hate mushrooms. And he always wants me to cook them, or he wants to put them in stuff." Apparently this secret required some backstory to it.

"He tries to hide them in food and make me eat them, and normally I call him out on it. But sometimes, when he cuts it up like reaall fine, and mixes it in stuff... I pretend I don't notice it." It was still gross, but, "'cause it makes him happy he got away with it." Before turning back to her to raise a finger to his lips in a 'shhh' fashion. "You can't tell, you promised, okay?" Was it worth her excitement? Who knows, but Floyd seemed to enjoy telling her it.

Whether it was true or not... well, that's another story.

Honestly, Floyd can do pretty much anything to her hair right now. Minako seems to be so immersed in the other's story that she isn't even really thinking about what he's putting in there.. Instead she's just staring at him with wide eyes, listening as attentively as a little kid listening to one of their parents read them a bedtime story.

And the more he tells, the more excited she seems. It's not even really the secret he's telling her, though she does appreciate that he's trying to compromise here.

No, there's something else entirely. Something that makes her reach out and clasp his hand between both of her own, her eyes basically shining.

"I also don't like mushrooms!"

.. is that worth this level of excitement? Apparently it is. Minako looks like she just found a soulmate. Maybe it's a sentiment she's never really been able to share with anyone before..

Oh good, she gets it too! Prepare to listen to him whine then. "Ugh, I hate it so much. Azul made Jade grow a bunch of them for the Lounge and made me make a whole bunch of meals with them to save money on buying supplies. It was horrible! I hated it! I tired to use up as much as I could but Jade kept growing them!" Until Azul got sick of them as well and told him to stop. Until then Floyd had to suffer through EVERYTHING with mushrooms in it.

"I wish he would pick a tastier food thing to grow or find." How hard was it to pick something else while hiking rather than mushrooms?

Wait! Focus. "So yeah! Now you can't be sad you donno something secret, right?" Floyd grinning away at her, "And you can help me pick out cat headbands for me to get for Azul and Jade." Because Floyd had spotted those before he came back to her, and he absolutely is going to buy some and make them wear it. Well, Jade might go along with it for a laugh for a moment. Floyd would have to force Azul to wear one. And take photos for evidence, clearly.

Indeed, him surrendering this story instead seems like a good enough deal to Minako - especially since she didn't quite expect to find anything coming from him that she could actually relate to, considering the way Floyd always seems. It's a bit of a surprise.. but a good one, really.

And one that makes her more than willing to help him out with his little quest. It helps that he says what he's looking for, which means Minako seems to truly have Purpose as she's wandering between the displays, like she's headed right for something specific.

It becomes clear very rapidly just what specific thing she's aiming for when, a moment later, she emerges holding a very specific hat.

"Tadah!" She says, holding it up like it's a trophy. She's not wearing the hat. Of course she's not going to. It's an awful mushroom! But..

"With this you can tell them that if they like mushrooms so much, they can just become one from now on!" The perfect revenge.
