“Aan” is a title. I was a Conscript, a soldier from an annexed territory working towards citizenship.

My siblings and I should have already had citizenship, given that my adoptive father is Garlean of high military rank, but he was believed killed in action. His replacement had a grudge against him… so my title on upon enlisting to try to live up to my father’s legacy was “Aan”.
[So basically he was a military brat. Of course there’s far more to the story, but no one needed to hear about the horrors Velens committed. He’s happy to just be a regular military brat for now.]
It’s… pretty irrelevant here though. No use holding onto it.
