Talking openly about one's burdens goes against the norm - where drawing attention to oneself is frowned upon in many ways. You're supposed to push it aside, be silent, and simply endure. It's a bit archaic, and definitely unhealthy, but still so ingrained in the culture that it's just not easy to say everything.
