There's seven of them total competing against each other, and whoever wins--in theory, whoever wins gets to become the "proper" path of human history. I guess if the winner also gets a second chance to keep going and do it better, but I don't know how that works. If anyone does--

But I don't think you sound selfish, either. It sounds more like--you were doing what you had to, in order to survive? Sometimes you have to do awful things in the name of making it to the next day. That doesn't make you inherently bad or selfish.
