🛵 a. haunted art gallery

[ Alberto is eating this holiday up! He's loved every festivity he's participated in all month, increasingly excited for Halloween ever since it was first explained to him. Alberto's in his element — he's here to have fun. He's donned a costume for both events, one he made all by himself, with quite a bit of concentrated creative effort, really...

He's a shark ghost...

While at first even he wasn't sure what that'd look like, he was determined to make it feasible. He made a hooded cloak by stapling together a bunch of translucent, tattered grey fabric he'd found, far too long for him and trailing along the ground, hiding his bare feet; he even covered a piece of cardboard in the cloth and stapled it on his back to make a fin. Likewise, he painted a bunch of jagged cardboard triangles white and stapled them all along the top and bottom of his hood, like many teeth. He cut out eye holes so he could pull the hood over most of his face, so all night only Alberto's permanent smug little smile is visible...

He's even got props, for some reason carrying a large fishing net and a harpoon — a real harpoon, oh god... This is Alberto's first time in an art gallery, and fancying himself something of an artist, he's stunned by the quality of the paintings, novel to him that paintings can look so realistic! These are some of the best drawings he's ever seen?! It's a shame they're all about to leap out and scare him, as he stands up-close staring in sheer dazzlement at a portrait of some handsome prince... He reels backwards with a loud yelp when the portrait winks and smirks at him, though, crashing into whoever was behind him. Oops. ]

A-Ahh! Did you see that?!

🛵 b. worrigami

[ This particular task appeals to Alberto in a way that may surprise anyone who's come to know the boy... Personifying worrisome emotions? He knows all about that. Indeed it is a valuable exercise. And it's an amazing idea that he may be able to give the dumb voice he's named inside his head physical form... just so he can tear it up and destroy it, was his idea.

So on his first sheet, he writes one word that means a lot to him, and nothing to anyone else:

BRUNO

But on his second sheet, he elaborates... quite a lot. Everything Bruno represents to him. Everything he tells no one about. Everything he hides with the cocky, energetic, lighthearted airs he puts on so well, all the time, that everyone's come to expect from him. But Alberto has drastically misunderstood the assignment, only realizing it once 'Brunito' grows tremendously and picks him up against his will, carrying him off. Even that seems symbolic, being carried away by Bruno, and it's as terrifying as it is infuriating, because all he'd wanted to do was tear this little paper monster up. Once he's dropped off by his match, seeing the monster erupt into butterflies gives him no catharsis; Bruno deserves worse than butterflies...

Finding his worried match, he's visibly disgruntled and embarrassed, though half his face is hidden beneath his shark ghost costume's hood, reluctant to admit to all the things he wrote down on his second page that led him to this match... All the things Bruno tells him in the back of his head, that he drowns out, bottles up, disguises. Now he's face-to-face with someone who has all the same worries, knowing it means their Bruno must sound a lot like his... But that's a painful foot to start off on, since Alberto is loathe to admit what he'd actually written on his second page: ]

bad. mad. scared. nervous. not safe. not brave. not cool. dumb. stupid. like i cant do it. cant do anything right. i ruin everything. i always cause everyone problems. bad son. bad kid. bad friend. burden. don't belong anywhere. trapped. alone. SHOULD BE alone... Dad is better off without me

[ Oh... No wonder the kid's mad he didn't get to tear up his Bruno... ]
