I don’t know either, but I guess that some things can leak into the paintings without some people knowing.

(Harry isn’t sure how to react to the haunted paintings right now as he is hoping that they will be able to go out of the maze soon.

Now he could hear Hedwig letting out a soft frazzled sound along with another noise from Fenton’s hair (he has no idea that Meadowbell is hiding in there at the moment, but he doesn’t have the time to react to it right now.)
