In deference to the fact that this is a dragon, and not a mere ravenous beast, Barbara keeps her spear down and pointed away from it, though. She's not interested in threatening, just communication. She roars at it--and while it's clearly a sound from a human throat, it's also well-practiced, a sound that is designed to get a dragon's attention and has a question mark on the end of it.
And it does--the dragon's huge head swings to look at these two women interrupting it.]
