It's a weird sensation, to have Gokudera's swipe go through him, rather than actually hit him. But it's also probably a good thing that friendly fire isn't on. The surprise causes him to un-equip his weapon for a moment, resulting in a flurry of punches towards the other enemies.

Not the most effective, but it's pushing them back at least.
