Honestly, we don't fully understand it either. We definitely don't have all the information. Everything that's happening here in this version of Camelot is proof enough of that. . . . A situation like this isn't something modern magecraft could have foreseen. My theory is that, while infinite universes exist, the conservation of energy applies to each one individually. No one universe can afford the energy to produce endless possibilities from its own resources. But endless possibilities still exist, drawing from an infinite number of finite pools.
[The truth is, Kadoc is a nerd, and once he gets going on theory like this, he's in his element; it's legitimately fun for him to think and talk about. For a moment he even finds himself speeding up, the way he might if he were at home and pacing around his room while thinking over some problem. But, whoops, he's not at home, and they need to go slowly for Monika's sake! After a couple of steps, he slows down again immediately, looking over to check on her.]
. . . Sorry. I'm getting distracted. The point of all that backstory was just that you kinda need to know it for it to make sense when I tell you that, before I was sent here, I spent some time living in one of these Lostbelts.
