I. Don't Treep, Man

Warm out today, but Zidane continued trudging about, working on this bit of fence or tilling this other section of land. For a few, he'd been left to water, but only up until more materials had been brought. Honestly, he was surprised just how much damage the zombies made, but their response to their numbers? Could've been better, but oh well.

"Ready to get back to the fence?" he asked the other worker nearby, not paying much heed to the fact they could currently either occupied by a task or looking for something more to do. If they hadn't been helping with the fence before, this might be slightly confusing.

II. Invasive Species

Ehehe, well, he'd say the season served the local wildlife well - and maybe too well like the task had said, but he wasn't going to be mature about it.

Anyway, cull some of the older animals, spare the ones that just had offspring or raised in a community (then it was open game), and also get the Carcinuses back. That second part might be the bigger challenge really, but maybe using one part to lead to the second, they could make good progress.

He'll think of a few more plans if that fell through.

"How you doing over there?"

His companion on this task could handle themselves, right? No issues with a few woodland critters?

III. Open House

He didn't know what to expect of Camelot's castle, but it was definitely dolled up for company. At least, he doesn't think the public bath normally has a water slide - not that he was really feeling a bath right now. Instead, he decided to stalk away and have a look around further; he could be found briefly having a taste of some new foods, seeing what books would be in this royal library, curiously watching the magician perform as he strolled by, and then heading out to the gardens.

Hm... roses had been one of her mother's favorites.

He could be found there soon too, lying around near the roses and pretty much chilling.

IV. Animal Mage Hunt - Reverse Card

Zidane had an animal tail, big whoop, wanted to fight about it?

Apparently, someone does - someone did, and it was the same someone that was going after others with Animal Magic once he got someone to squawk. Making them spill further details, the barely tech-savvy young man checked the Dark Web and found the posting, and was immediately both unimpressed and actually angered.

It was one thing to basically put a bounty on him, but any Animal Mage, huh? Worse, he'd heard about the murders happening and he didn't know if they were related. Even if they weren't, the knights were likely occupied by them instead.

So, he'll make himself look quite conspicuous donning his cloak and mask from home. Hood drawn, he thought he looked like a suspicious mage type; and with enough of his tail just appearing from beneath, that outta do it. He doesn't really mind how it might look to others - he had to figure out how to track down the guy behind the Dark Web post.

[OOC: Note that this is open for him to aid characters being attacked, for people looking to attack a supposed animal mage, or wondering what the hell he's doing at all. Maybe they'd like to come along, he's open to forming a party.]

Sounds just like her...

[It's said with a fond laugh, of course. Aerith is the kindest person she knows, but she does have a bit of a mischievous side, she learned. It was never meant in a hostile way, but always to draw a laugh out of the other person, which... she was unbelievably skilled at that Tifa admired it. Admires her in a lot of ways.

And she's thankful that she has her here.

Her head tilts at Zidane, the thought sparking something in her.]

You don't have anyone here with you, do you? From your world?

[Tell that to past super dizzy Zidane avoiding actually crashing into a support beam. It all worked out, but it could've been a knock out instead. Oh well, Aerith was great.]

[He shakes his head.]

Actually, there is someone here. If you see a small girl with dark hair and a yellow horn, that's Eiko. She can be bold, but she's a good kid.

[She sounds like she might be hard to miss if she ever comes across her, so Tifa commits the name to memory. Honestly, it would be nice to meet the people who could befriend Zidane before this world, and before a whole other universe tossed them all together and shook them around. 😉 The thought comes from the fondest place, of course.]

Bold, huh? She learned from the best, didn't she?

You're taking pretty good care of her, right?

Nah, it wasn't me. She was always like that since we met. I think it was the moogles.

[Because her grandfather sounded pretty normal to him.]

Oh yeah. She's been able to meet new people and see new places. Technology here throws her a little off too, but that's not a surprise.

How so? Not so techy where you're from?

[Gaia is and isn't in some ways. The smartphones are a completely new trend for her, what with there being only basic flip phones back home, but at least she was technologically familiar enough to figure out how to use them when she got here.]

Nope. We have radios... and one place has holograms.

[There's some technological disparities for reasons, but going into details? What's that?]

[That is... quite the jump, even for Tifa who had made a significant jump in tech from Midgar to here... Ah, Final Fantasy. Never change.]

Holograms sound pretty techy to me. Shinra liked to use them to show themselves off all the time.

[The same way someone small would try to show off their power to intimidate others... but in reality, it just made them look silly.]

Has she learned all about the video streaming stuff yet?

Shinra? What's that?

[She hadn't told him about Shinra yet? It's hard to remember who she has and hasn't... but... with the way they're still lounging around the garden with no place to be right away, maybe there is a bit of time for a long story made short?]

They're just a big electrical company back home... They run Midgar, where I lived... Just like any big conglomerate, they don't want to admit that what they're doing is killing the Planet.

[Nope! He has not heard about Shinra! But his brows furrow... what's a 'conglomerate'? Eh, he doesn't know, but sounds bad - they sound bad.]

So... what are you doing about them?

[Well. Tifa is looking to get back at them in any way she can for... other things, so her reasons for fighting against them aren't exactly as virtuous as one might think. Sure, they're hurting the Planet, but they've hurt a lot of other things in the past, too... So, coming up with an answer to that takes her a moment.]

We've been taking out the mako reactors one by one... so that they can't use them. But that involves taking out power for a lot of innocent people, too. ... Mako is what powers the city.

[She shrugs.]

Guess it's hard to make a change without some sacrifices.

[She doesn't believe that one bit, but that's just how it is.]

Nah, you can absolutely make changes without sacrifices.

[And he gives her a look because that didn't sound very like how he'd come to know her.]

Still... you got one big group that probably doesn't want that change so cracking a few heads has to happen. There's really no other power source for this place?

[It is very much not like her, and she wants to believe that it's true, but she's had her fair share of arguments with Barret about it that she'd rather just not revisit that part of Avalanche or Shinra again if she can help it. It's too bad that Rufus isn't here for her to just slap in the face to make up for it all. It would make it a hell of a lot easier.]

There is, but... you know some people. They just wanna take the easy way.

[Actually, life in Midgar is anything but easy after Shinra, but that's a story she doesn't know.]

It won't be easy, but I think we do it. I think we get them... based on what Red—er, Nanaki had to say.

Right. If there's an easy way, some people will take it.

[Not that he's really sure how easy things are? It's still steampower and magic in his world, and who can say what it'll leap to next.]

That's good. Have confidence... Also, does he prefer Red or Nanaki? I kinda keep calling him Red.

[Tifa peers over at him, surprised, for a moment. She didn't know that he and Red had met, but... well, she really shouldn't be so shocked about it, should she? The two of them probably get along just fine, and maybe keep each other out of trouble... to which she laughs.]

I don't know. I'd think Nanaki... but I only just learned that was his name a little while ago. He tells me either's fine, but... [But she'd rather not use some stupid designation Hojo had given him. If he has a name, then that's what he should be known by, right?] I'm so used to calling him Red that I still slip up sometimes.

[They took care of kids in the hospital, and Zidane terrified Nanaki briefly by making him imagine having a poodle cut. Yeah, they got along just fine.]

Oh good. Though, maybe I should give him another nickname. [Not because he knows Hojo, but there's someone else he calls Red, and Nanaki doesn't have the same attitude.] Hmm... what would be a good nickname?

[Another nickname? How many is he going to have by the time he leaves here, she wonders? The people at the hospital called him the big red dog, and she's sure that Barret has already thought of plenty of colourful nicknames that she's yet to hear and scold him for, so...]

Hmm. Well, as long as you don't call him Lab Rat Dog, I think just about anything will work.

[But if they're thinking of nicknames, then she'll play along.]

It's gotta be something that suits him. We need a name that tells people about him—that he's quiet, wise, and has a great smile.

[Zidane thought someone called Red some name that started with a C? After a big red dog from a book, but he didn't think it fit. Zidane tilts his head.]

'Lab Rat Dog'...? That's not a name someone gave him, right?

[Because that's too long for a nickname.]

Hm... what about 'Reki'? It's Red and then Nanaki.

[Zidane, you can't just smush names together like that.]

[Tifa laughs.]

You know, I think he called himself that.

[If she's recalling correctly, and only because no one else would ever give Red that name.]

That's not bad, but it could use some work.

[No, you can't just smash two names together and call it a nickname! It has to be something that represents him more than just the two things people know him as. She tries to think of what she knows about Nanaki, and what kinds of things would remind her of him.]

What about... Sidewinder? That sounds pretty kick ass don't you think?

[It sounds like a super spy codename! ~~Not just because that's the name of one of his moves in Remake, nope nope.~~]

Oh really?

[He has to chuckle a little. Okay, Nanaki's got a sense of humor.]

Hm...

[Another name, another name... He tilts his head at her new suggestion.]

That could work... but I also heard someone call a snake that before.

[It'd been some old man, but Red probably wouldn't want to share a nickname with snakes either.] He kind of reminds me of those fire lions I met a while ago, the Foguerias?

[It's a very dry, secret sense of humour, but it's definitely buried in there somewhere...!

As cool as Sidewinder sounds, she would agree that naming him after a snake wouldn't be the best idea. He is the furthest thing he can be from one, and... well, there are probably better names out there.

Tifa is intrigued by this new development in their naming scheme though, and her eyes light up. Fire lions... Now that she thinks on it, she has no idea what species Red even is.]

I don't think I've met them, but that does sound a little like him. [Especially with that fiery tail he has.] What're they like?

I only met them by chance in that fighting ring.

[She'd been able to get out so she probably hadn't fought one either before the breakout.]

Eustace found me and let me out, but we found these guys while searching the cells. They were brothers with tempers as fiery as their fur, but were totally cool with cooperating if it meant the place got wrecked. Wouldn't mind seeing them again, but I have no idea where they headed off after we went separate ways.

Could always ask Nanaki, see if he might know.

[Maybe it's a pack mentality sort of thing? Maybe he has an idea of where they are just based on that? She has no idea how it works, but there'd be no harm in asking at the very least.]

But how do you figure that relates to a nickname? You learn what any of theirs are?

Nope, they mainly called each other 'Brother'. It was funny because they only called Eustace 'dog', but that made me realize maybe we're thinking about this too hard.

[One can only imagine the look on Eustace's face at being called 'dog'...

It probably isn't how it works, but there's no harm in asking. Maybe it'll be a good thing—she does wonder sometimes how Nanaki feels being surrounded by humans all the time, and if he'd be happy with some friends that are more like him, too.]

Hmm... [Tifa kicks back on her hands, sighing whimsically.] So what about something that means 'brother'?
