A. Not As Directed - Docks
[ If you're anywhere hanging around the sea mounts that are hanging around the docks, you're going to find yourself in Danger of getting nailed by a baby mossatee. Having insulted the mossatees, a swimsuit-clad Emerald is trying to make it up to them by doing some baby fetching so they'll stop trash talking her to the other mounts. She doesn't need to have one of the deinosuchus as badass as they are, she just needs wants one of them to cooperate with her despite that she doesn't seem to have a partner yet.

Which is why, instead of rolling the mossateenies one at a time, Emerald is on the shore, picking them up, spinning to gain a little extra distance, and chucking them like they're incredibly bulky shot put balls. ]

Duck!

[ At least she's shouting if it looks like the tiny mossatees are going to nail someone in the head. ]

B. Living Spaces - Camelot
[ Emerald likes that this place provides them all with a place to live in Avalon. She likes that there's a cushion that she's not going to end up back on the street. But living in an inn feels an awful lot like not actually having a real home, too, and with Emerald feeling like she's been doing decently lately, she's feeling a little braver too.

She's also considered, maybe she doesn't have to go home from this place. It's questionable what she really has to go back to. Which has lead her to consider maybe checking out some of the local real estate. Maybe she hasn't gotten a real job and has just been skating by on quests and festival prizes and selling cool crap she finds going along with some of these journeys (and occasional less legal pocket supplementation).

Either way she's wandering around buildings around Camelot looking lost with a handful of open house flyers, and may come up to various people to ask. ]

C. Lavaft Behind (with Lasers?) - Celliwig, a few days later
[ Not having found anything she's super impressed with in Camelot, Emerald heads up to Celliwig to go see if they have any free real estate, and realizes there's a quest there while she's there. Her magic is light and dark, so exactly how she's planning on getting this little guy out of the lava?

She heads back up to the top to grab some of the diamond. She's not planning on running off with it, but instead takes it into the lava chamber. ]

Just like burning ants...

[ Is it? She's not really sure, but Emerald's trying to beam some light magic into the diamond to amplify it kind of like how kids burn ants with a microscope. A rainbow comes out and she squints. That's not what she wanted... she tried focusing it harder to see if she can empower the light beam into a laser... but she doesn't quite know how yet. Help? ]

[Drake had essentially just arrived in the area to check out the mounts and weigh out his decisions. After hearing out someone's explanation of the choices, he spent a moment lost in thought! His train of thought was only disrupted by hearing the word "Duck!" He didn't even look in the direction of the call, he just rolled his eyes and gave a beleagured sigh.]

Yeah, yeah, I get it. I'm not the kind of duck you expe-OW! [And so the baby nails him right in the head, and he falls right over. At least he managed to act as a cushion for the falling mossatee?]

[ She covers her mouth with her hand when she nails the duck in the face with the mossatee. She's covering up an instinctive laugh. It doesn't cover it up too well. ]

My bad. What do ducks yell to warn each other?

[Darkwing groans while lifting up the baby Mossatee and setting it down gently while trying to peel himself off the ground.]

The... same thing, actually. But we can usually tell by the context! I just... got a little confused there. I'm more used to hearing it in the other context here! [He shakes his head. Then he looks towards Emerald uncertainly.]

Why was this baby flying through the air, anyway?

[Maya was wandering, well, aimlessly. A few days in that hotel was not good for her mind. Too much time with her own thoughts. Too many of those thoughts lingering on the state of everyone she loves. Trapped in an endless moment. The closest thing she could think of to hell. It takes her a few seconds to realize she's being spoken to.]

Um, sorry, no... I've barely been here a week.

[Maya's voice is light and somewhat- lacking, in emotion.]

Have you tried putting any of the addresses into a map app?

[ Got it. She heads into the water to splash at the little baby mosatee she sees swimming back toward the shore like he wants to go again, scaring him back to the water. ]

He was on the shore and I'm not playing around rolling a little turd monster into the lake.

Still sounds like your bad to me! My- my instincts are actually pretty keen I'll have you know.

First of all, that's a rude thing to call a baby. Secondly, ever hear of gently carrying and setting a creature down in the water? It's not so hard! [Even if it felt pretty hefty when it hit him...]

There are a lot of people here who suck at tech, if I want someone to come over I want them to be able to find me without relying on a phone. If I can't find it asking a few people around, there's no way the weirdos from backwards planets are going to.

When they're out of the water, they look like little turd monsters. And they act like little turd monsters, because they just keep trying to climb back on shore to go again anyway.

Navigating the city is easier than figuring out how to nagivate magic?

[Cities are easy, they're all the same. Okay, there are variances, how dominating the skyline is, how many coffee shops there are on a block. But they feel the same in their bones. It's very pleasant to Maya.]

I guess that's a good consideration. I've- never really thought of that. All my friends either had phones or knew how to fake having a phone well enough to fool me...

[Now she feels bad for not considering people might need to work without tech. Pretty shitty of her to overlook that.]

My address is... [ She gives it, anyway. It's a bit by the outskirts, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. At least a twenty minute walk from the city shouldn't be that challenging! Not to mention, it will be easy to find. Weiss lives in a farm! ]

[ So go get ready. Emerald wanders around for a while because imagining Weiss living on a farm is kind of funny, but eventually she finds the place and gives the door a good knock. ]

If I can make light, I can make lasers. I just.. don't know how. Yet. But I know you can burn ants with a magnifying glass and the sun, so... this should work.

[ She's in the ballpark to try with diamonds to amplify lasers, but she doesn't understand what she's doing well enough to get the effect she wants. She's spent most of her time here mastering the more illusory aspects of light.

She turns the diamond until she's on the flattest part of it, which actually does better though, instead pushing all the colors into a single beam. She tries increasing how much light she's putting out slowly, directing it at a different area first (she doesn't want to fry the critter they're trying to save on accident). ]

[ It does seem like a funny concept, but Weiss isn't afraid to get her hands dirty! ... if the situation calls for it, anyway.

The house is rather large for three occupants to be living in it. A family used to live here, after all, but most of the members have left and it's just the farm owner, Elaine, and the two otherworlders now.

Admittedly, Weiss isn't even sure how she should be greeting Emerald once she arrives. They're not close, but Weiss does have a bit of trust in her. They're allies, but not necessarily friends. So, upon opening the door... ]

You're lucky I'm actually at home today and that my hands aren't full.

[ Since Emerald isn't going to burn down her kitchen under supervision. Unless Weiss also burns down the kitchen with her on accident. ]

How do you know so much about this?

[ Emerald tries to focus her own light a little more, stops, shakes her hand, then tries to get one beam going from each of her digits directed at the same spot on the diamond. That gets it going, since that's how diamonds are usually used to increase beam strength by combining the energy to a single point. Of course, on such a tiny scale, it's basically just creating a tiny laser beam that's pointing at the wall and burning about 1mm deep. ]

Oh-! [ She looks pleased with herself that she did it, not even paying attention to why she was supposed to do it to begin with. ]

Magic's always a pain no matter what world you're from.

[ Though to Emerald, the idea of someone actually asking to come over probably isn't something she needs to worry about. It's never happened, it probably won't. Even if she's trying to turn over a new leaf. Optimism isn't exactly her key trait. In fact, there was once a time when she made gagging noises at the thought of hanging around hopelessly optimistic people behind their back. ]

...Both? It's not like I've been to where I'm going before, but I have a general idea where I am. I just need to find the particular building.

If they can't get back to the water they're going to become dried turds, so they probably should learn to hesitate a little.

Well, okay, that is a concern. We can't have them drying up! But there has to be better, gentler ways to help them with that! Maybe we can try to teach them!
