A. Not As Directed - Docks
[ If you're anywhere hanging around the sea mounts that are hanging around the docks, you're going to find yourself in Danger of getting nailed by a baby mossatee. Having insulted the mossatees, a swimsuit-clad Emerald is trying to make it up to them by doing some baby fetching so they'll stop trash talking her to the other mounts. She doesn't need to have one of the deinosuchus as badass as they are, she just needs wants one of them to cooperate with her despite that she doesn't seem to have a partner yet.

Which is why, instead of rolling the mossateenies one at a time, Emerald is on the shore, picking them up, spinning to gain a little extra distance, and chucking them like they're incredibly bulky shot put balls. ]

Duck!

[ At least she's shouting if it looks like the tiny mossatees are going to nail someone in the head. ]

B. Living Spaces - Camelot
[ Emerald likes that this place provides them all with a place to live in Avalon. She likes that there's a cushion that she's not going to end up back on the street. But living in an inn feels an awful lot like not actually having a real home, too, and with Emerald feeling like she's been doing decently lately, she's feeling a little braver too.

She's also considered, maybe she doesn't have to go home from this place. It's questionable what she really has to go back to. Which has lead her to consider maybe checking out some of the local real estate. Maybe she hasn't gotten a real job and has just been skating by on quests and festival prizes and selling cool crap she finds going along with some of these journeys (and occasional less legal pocket supplementation).

Either way she's wandering around buildings around Camelot looking lost with a handful of open house flyers, and may come up to various people to ask. ]

C. Lavaft Behind (with Lasers?) - Celliwig, a few days later
[ Not having found anything she's super impressed with in Camelot, Emerald heads up to Celliwig to go see if they have any free real estate, and realizes there's a quest there while she's there. Her magic is light and dark, so exactly how she's planning on getting this little guy out of the lava?

She heads back up to the top to grab some of the diamond. She's not planning on running off with it, but instead takes it into the lava chamber. ]

Just like burning ants...

[ Is it? She's not really sure, but Emerald's trying to beam some light magic into the diamond to amplify it kind of like how kids burn ants with a microscope. A rainbow comes out and she squints. That's not what she wanted... she tried focusing it harder to see if she can empower the light beam into a laser... but she doesn't quite know how yet. Help? ]

The dark web is the internet not controlled or policed or tracked. It's not illegal to access or look at what's on it as long as you don't actually purchase or agree to participate in anything. Do huntresses seriously not know how people hire hitmen or buy contraband?

[ She shakes her hands back and forth. ]

Nevermind. Anyway, there's a QuestBoard on the dark web too, and it pays way better than the regular one and this particular task is to just find a baking recipe that you can't taste the fairy poison in.

That is— [ ... SHUT UP, EMERALD. ] The existence of the dark web has nothing to do whether or not a Huntress does a good job or not!

So, what you're saying is... if we do this recipe right, then you'll share half of your income with me.

It wouldn't hurt. Though I guess if it was that easy to thwart those kinds of transactions, it'd have already gone under. Make sense why people gave up fighting it.

[ At least she's not taking a stab at Weiss that time? Just law enforcement in general. ]

...You can have 40. I'm charging a finder's fee for the task since you didn't even know about the dark web and you're running no risk of getting hacked from accessing it since I did that.

Fine. I would rather not have my device get hacked, thank you.

[ Not that there's much to see to begin with, but hacking is crime and she refuses to be any part of it! ]

We can bake an apple pie, then. What sort of... poison is it?

It's supposed to be for fairies, so I don't think it'll hurt us but I brought some uncoated, crushed ibuprofen instead just in case. I figure if we can cover up that flavor, it should work for whatever poison and the worst it'll do to us is cure a headache.

[ Pain killers taste like bitter ass uncoated, that's why you're supposed to swallow them whole, so she figures that should be a good substitute that won't hurt them.]

I guess it needs to be a really sweet pie, then.

[ Okay! That's settled. Picking up a book from the nearby shelf, the turns to the page where the recipe for the apple pie is. Look— she needs the guidance! ]

Okay. Go grab the flour, salt, and sugar from the cupboard.

[ It's organised in separate jars with labels, because Weiss really likes to keep things tidy. Meanwhile, she gets a stick of butter and some eggs from the fridge. ]

Not too sweet though. Then it'll just be nasty.

[ Emerald just goes to start opening cupboards until she finds the things she needs, leaving them open so she can see them when Weiss asks for whatever she needs next. What? She has no idea where anything is. ]

[schmisse]

How would you know? You're not going to eat a poisoned pie, are you?

[ Who cares what it tastes like at that point? ]

Neither is someone being poisoned if it tastes like pure sugar.

[ If the victim won't eat the food then what's the point to begin with? ]

Oh, please. You know Ruby would eat something like that.

[ ... all the more Weiss has to smack her hand when she grabs something off the table to eat. ]

Okay, but the people trying to murder Ruby aren't doing it with pie. They're-- you know, I feel like turning a conversation about murder toward Ruby is a trap, so I'm just gonna start skinning apples.

[ She doesn't know what the other steps are, but you definitely have to skin and cut the apples before they go in the pie. So as soon as she finds the ingredients she was told to get, she goes digging through drawers to find a knife. ]

[schmisse]

Good.

[ Weiss just wanted to point out that Ruby will eat anything sweet. Ruby and Nora, actually. ]

Cut up the apples into little squares, while you're at it.

[ In the meantime, she'll prepare the crust! ]

[ Weiss's tiny square mush pie.. whatever, Emerald's following directions. ]

The apple bits are squares when you eat pie.

Most of my time in Atlas was inside a giant whale, so I'll believe Atlesian apple pie is however you say it is.

[ Emerald isn't an expert chef either or she wouldn't be here, so it's Weiss's call. It's apples either way, she's sure it'll turn out. ]
