Summer Sun, Something's Begun | July Catch-All | Open
🧙 WHO: Darin Altway and YOU
⚔️️ WHAT: July Catch-All with Open and Closed prompts
🕒 WHEN: Throughout July
🗺️ WHERE: All around Camelot! Quests and shenanigans ahoy!
⚠️ WARNINGS: Some ridiculousness? Some fluff? Will update as necessary!
🛡️ SHIELD SUMMER FEVER! 🛡️ - OPEN
[Darin always felt bad for the people who could get sick. Back home, his powers prevented him from falling ill, even to such banal things as a summer cold. But he did have experience as a gofer for his town's doctor, as well as doing errands and chores for the people who fell ill. So, this job was right up his alley.]
[One thing he knew for sure, when you're under the weather, nothing beats a good laugh.]
[With the trusty use of the new EmphaSize spell he nabbed from the traders, you'll find him waddling around with huge, oversized feet as he goes from room to room delivering flowers, teddy bears, medicine, fruit baskets, you name it. If he happens to be entering a kid's room, he'll make a big show of his giant, floppy feet. If its an elderly person's room, he'll sit with them for awhile and ask them about their day or let them ramble on.]
[But it's likely leaving one of the rooms is when you'll bump into Darin. Or trip over his enormous, floppy feet.]
Oh, hey! Easy there! You okay? Sorry, I should get a signal or something for these things...
🗡️ LAVAFT BEHIND 🗡️ - OPEN
[This seemed like a pretty easy task, all things considered. Everyone knew slimes were low-level monsters, even if they had the same temperature as magma. And Darin worked professionally around molten metal all day. If there was anyone who could handle this task, it was him.]
[Though, having someone along in case things went awry was a good idea too. Especially since his blood magic wouldn't really do him much good here.]
[So back to the Diamond Falls Darin goes. He's got a pickax and some mining tools in a pack slung over his shoulder examining the hardened rock for any sign of the slime.]
So, since I know how my luck goes, what's the plan for when we free this thing and it immediately attacks us with the fury of a particularly cranky volcano?
AT THE FORGE - OPEN
[With the reconstruction from his rampage doing well, Darin's back at the forge doing what he loves. He might be down an apprentice, but that hasn't stopped him from taking orders and commissions from those who seek him out! Got something you want Darin to make? His consultations are always free so come on in! Got some gear that needs mending or ideas you want to pitch? Maybe you just need some work? Darin's door is always open! When you step in, you'll likely see him working on something or tidying the place up. If there's one thing Darin can't stand, it's a messy forge! So come on in and let's get to work!]
BAR CRAWL - CLOSED TO KATE
[It's been about a month since he tore through Camelot as a terrifying, familiar-fused monster. Barring his (and everyone else's jaunt) to Celliwig, Darin had largely avoided going into town. And when he did, he wore a cloak with a hood that concealed his hair.]
[Now, a month later and the reconstruction mostly complete, Darin is feeling a little more hopeful that maybe he won't be kicked out of town if he decides to hit a bar for a drink or two. He's still wearing his cloak, but when he settles in at the 'In For a Pound' pub, he slowly pulls his hood back to reveal his very obvious blue mane of hair. He gets a few looks, some of which he's not too thrilled with, but orders a drink and sits at the bar.]
[Unfortunately, the patrons on either side of him scoot away. Fortunately, that leaves space should anyone decide they want to pull up a stool and join him.]
MY DINNER WITH DARIN - CLOSED TO ALLURA
[So, it really only dawned on Darin about a day or so before the date that he and Allura had chosen for dinner that this might actually be a...you know. A date. In a panic, he considered calling her to clarify that this wasn't a date...but what if she wanted it to be a date? What if he tried to clarify and they called the whole thing off? That would be awful! And he'd feel terrible too! She was really looking forward to it! But did that mean she was looking forward to a date with him?]
[No, that couldn't be it.]
[Could it?]
[So, after spending a day laying on the floor and staring at the ceiling weighing his options, he decided that, you know what? He could do this! Even if it was a date! Hell, it was only a date! He could handle that! Even though he'd never been on a date before, much less with someone who was so strikingly beautiful and had spent the last six months worming her way into his every though— NOT IMPORTANT!]
[And so, it was the evening of the big-but-maybe-not date. He'd agonized over whether or not he should dress up and finally he decided on an off-white polo shirt with pink piping around the collar and sleeves (hey, pink goes good with blue, alright?), and some tan slacks. With a menu all set (he did promise it would be an amazing meal) he sets out to begin cooking, listening intently for the door to the forge to open so he could go up and greet her.]
[Everything was set for the evening. Nothing could possibly go wrong, right?]
[...Right?]

I promised you prosthetics months ago and it's not like me to not deliver to a customer, much less a friend.
So, if you've got an idea on what you want? You just leave it to me.
We'll get Naoto an arm so good he'll be asking for your hand~!
[He gives her a wink. For everything she's done for him, the least he can do is give this his all.]
no subject
[There... it's small, but the smile she gives him is real. She knew she could count on him.]
Something sturdy... he has an agile, close-quarters combat style, and he works long hours at the cafe, but he does a lot of delicate work baking there too. Blood magic is a big part of his fighting style too, he uses it to form medium-length blades... I dunno, maybe channels or something so it'd be easier to draw his blood through, or a metal blade? [She shakes her head.] You know he tried to drain himself dry making a whole arm out of blood when we got magic at that ball...
no subject
... ... ...
[He drums his fingers on the table, his gaze far away. His lips are moving, but there's no sound coming out. He's clearly running through entire schematics in his mind.]
...I think I've got something. An idea.
no subject
[She perks up instantly.]
Yeah?
no subject
[He begins sketching, a rough draft of a human person for the sake of proportion, then focuses on the arm. From there, he makes a separate drawing of the arm. Strap in, Makoto and enjoy your tea. This is going to take awhile.]
[He starts from the plating on the shoulder and works his way down, scribbling notes along the side as he goes. He stops briefly every so often to go back and redesign some part of the arm, as if a new idea strikes him each time.]
[By the end, about an hour or so has passed. But he's got a design down to the literal nuts and bolts all annotated.]
Alright. Hear me out. I don't have the surgical prowess to connect an arm to his nerve endings to make it work like a normal arm should but...as a fellow blood mage I know how powerful blood magic is. You can literally make other people act like puppets on a string. So if you can make a person do that with their blood, why shouldn't you be able to do the same to an arm using yours?
[He turns the sketch around to show Makoto the design.]
It's a streamlined design, lightweight but sturdy at the joints where he'll likely be putting the most stress. Now, a human arm has veins, right? Well, if I recreate the system of veins using flexible piping housed with a metal skeletal structure and then covered in plating, Naoto can pump his blood into the tubes and manipulate the arm like hydraulics. It'll take some practice but I think he can do it.
And then, here, at the palms, see these holes? Almost like little nozzles? If he forces blood through the piping to these, he can use the blood to form weapons in his hand. All he has to do is stop the flow and these outlets will seal up.
...What do you think?
no subject
[Indeed there is tea, and cinnamon rolls, which don't mind if Mako takes the first one for herself as she watches Darin work. And once he's done, and gives her the rundown.]
Hoooooly crap. This is amazing, Darin, you're brilliant!
no subject
...Give me till the end of the month. At the latest.
no subject
[A firm nod, but more enthusiastic now.] Yeah yeah, of course! I'll ask Naoto if he wants anything else too!
[She puts the mug back on the table, bowing deeply at the waist and neck to him.]
I seriously owe you for this, Darin. Thank you.
no subject
What? No, relax! You don't owe me anything. Hell, you've done plenty for me. I'm the one who owes you!

[A light chuckle.]
Good point. Let's just call it friends helping each other out, huh?
2/2
Besides... I think I said I can pay back in dating advice too so...
[THERE IT IS]

Oh, I dunno... you seemed pretty blushy when I brought it up earlier~
[She'll be
cruelnice and give him a chance to come clean.]no subject
[It's just the one date! Just one!]
no subject
You sure about that~? Not even a certain white-haired girl you're totally tsundere for~?
[Wink~]
no subject
B-But that's just because she took care of me during that whole monster fiasco! She checked up on me and cheered me up...not to mention that I hurt her pretty bad when I was rampaging...
A dinner is the least I could do!
no subject
A fancy homecooked dinner? With both of you getting dressed up?
[Okay granted, she only knows how much Allura dressed up, since they went dress shopping, but details.]
She seemed pretty excited at least.
no subject
no subject
Plenty~~ Why~? I thought you said you were just saying thank you~
[Ever wondered what it'd be like to have a teenage sister, Darin? WONDER NO MORE!]
no subject
But...I mean...it doesn't hurt to know what she thinks of me...does it...?
[GODS IT'S HIS WORST NIGHTMARE]
no subject
Why don't you ask her yourself? I thought that's what the dinner was for~?
[Just gonna take a loooong, grinning sip of tea.]
no subject
L-Look, even if she did like me...I don't know the first thing about relationships!
no subject
[Uuuugh, this is like pulling teeth. She nudges the cinnamon rolls closer to him, but not enough to endanger the blueprints.]
One, yes she does. Two, you like her too, even if you're too stubborn to admit it. Three, Naoto and I were in the same boat three months ago.
no subject
S-She does?! She said that???
[His voice jumped at least three octaves. But then, the obvious question:]
...Why?
[Seriously! He’s a trash fire of a person!]
no subject
[A sigh and shake of her head, but at least it ends on a smile.]
Like I said, you'll have to talk to her about it. I will say it's pretty obvious though. On both your ends...
